Wrestling: Freedom Storms to Dulles District Meet Title with 8 Champions, Advances All 14 Wrestlers to Regionals

(Feb. 5, 2010) - Freedom High School wrestling coach Kent Nagy gathered his victorious Dulles District team --clutching both the dual season and district meet trophy's -- just after midnight Thursday and implored his Eagles to "not be one-hit wonders" but the truth of the matter was his Eagles were "14-hit wonders" as the entire team advanced to next week's Region II meet including a record-tying eight district champions.

Freedom's dominance gave the school its first district meet wrestling title -- and just the third school to ever win the crown joining two-time winner Dominion (2006-07) and traditional power, six-time winner Potomac Falls (2002-05, 2008-09) -- with an 82-point margin, scoring 241 points with runner-up Potomac Falls at 159 and host Broad Run 123.

The meet was moved up two days to beat the incoming storm. Starting at 4 p.m., the finals didn't kick off until 10:24 p.m. but it was a spirited crowd, especially the Eagle fans who were basically treated to a dual meet type of evening with nine wrestlers in the finals.
