Football: Park View to Induct Second Hall of Fame Class Friday Prior to Liberty Game
Sterling (Aug. 31, 2011) - Park View High School will induct its second Hall of Fame class at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 2, before the Park View-Liberty football game.
A reception to honor the inductees, their friends and families will begin at 5 p.m. (The induction and reception will be held inside the school. The inductees and their families are encouraged to attend the football game where the inductees will be recognized on the field at halftime.)
The 2011 inductees (with the years they attended Park View) include:

The purpose of the Park View High School Athletic Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor those Park View High School athletes, coaches, administrators and supporters who excelled in their respective sports or coaching/support roles and who helped to bring honor, recognition, distinction and excellence to Park View High School by their conduct both on and off the field, or court of competition.

Football: Two Experts and Six Fans Go Perfect in Week 1 of VivaLoudoun You Pick'Em Contest!
(Aug. 30, 2011) - Week One of you You Pick'Em football contest with only two experts -- Matt Brooks of the Washington Post and Andy Hayes of Gameday Magazine -- going perfect and only six of 102 fans coming home with an 8-0 mark.
Of the fans, the t-shirt winner for Week One is "The Spartan of Ashburn" as they had 42-14 as the tiebreaker which was close enough to the 51-7 Broad Run win over Park View for the win!

A. If we said we spend most of the weekend adjusting our fantasy football line-up, it would be too close to the truth and pathetic, but honestly, with 12 high schools it takes time to gather all the facts on the weekend.
Q. My school isn't represented as much as the other schools ... is it because you hate our mascot?
A. Ha. We can only print what is provided by each program and some programs have almost NFL-level of media relations quality and others have FBI Witness Relocation level of information!
Q. Can I contribute to the coverage of TAQ?

Tuesday Afternoon Quarterback - Aug. 30, 2011 (Week One!)
Broad Run 51, Park View 7
The Skinny: This was a 7-7 game almost midway through the first half, thanks to the Patriots controlling the clock early and moving the ball well. Broad Run made some adjustments and shut down Park View the rest of the game. Offensively, the Spartans had nearly a season worth of big plays as Derril Thomas picked up 174 yards rushing on just eight carries with TDs of 78, 40 and 51 and Dorian Jenkins piled up 185 yards receiving on just four catches with TDs of 51 and 80. On the Verzion FiOS1 postgame interview Spartan head coach Matt Griffis gave big props to his offensive line which allowed Connor Jessop time to throw for 226 yards on 6 of 9 including the two TDs to Jenkins and a 25-yard score to Michael Stratton. Ryan McCarter was everywhere for Park View and had eight receptions for 100 yards. PV quarterback Alec Dombkowski was 13 of 19 for 146 yards and two interceptions. One of those was key as Jenkins picked off a throw in the end zone to stop the Patriots long first drive on the night. Later Jenkins had a fumble recovery in the Red Zone to add to his big Broad Run night. Caleb Lindsey also had an INT for the Spartans and anchored the defense from the LB spot. Patriot RB Khalil Brooks had a nice kickoff return (one man from breaking it) to start the night and was especially strong in the first half behind some nice Pats run blocking for 60 yards on 17 carries.
Up Next: Doesn't get any easier for Park View as they host a Liberty team which shut out Potomac Falls Fri. 41-0. Broad Run faces Briar Woods in what was called last year the Backyard Brawl and this year is the Battle for a Better Cause as the much-anticipated game will help benefit the recovery of BR grad Ryan Diviney. VivaLoudoun will be on hand in "Downtown Brambleton" Friday for full coverage.
Handley 31, Dominion 3
The Skinny: The post-Deandre Reaves era for the Titans got off to a rough start as Dominion's only score was a 31-yard first quarter field goal by Keanu May. The Titans defense played well to start and the Judges didn't tie it up with their own field goal until 6:35 remained in the first half. The Titans, however, committed five turnovers in the contest and the Judges scored 28 unanswered points to finish. Handley rushed for more than 200 yards in the win. Titan RB Dashaun Wesley was held to 23 yards on seven carries.
Up Next: Dominion looks to regroup with a bye this week.
James Wood 24, Heritage 21
The Skinny: Pride lose a heartbreaker on the road as Heritage, trailing 24-21, had first-and-goal from the 1 with less than three minutes to score but couldn't punch it in the end zone. Back-to-back runs were stopped and then Pride QB Austin Nelson (who had a big night with 244 yards on 21 of 27 passing, 3 TDs, and rushed for 76 yards) was sacked and the Pride with no timeouts left had to hurry off a FG attempt from 27 yards as the finals seconds ticked off ... with the kick going wide left. Trailing 10-7 late in the first half, Heritage appeared to go ahead on a Nelson TD run but the ball was fumbled and recovered by JW in the end zone. Earlier to start the game, after a big 68-yard kickoff return by Marcus Finney for the Pride, JW intercepted the ball in the end zone. Nelson's scoring passes went to Drew Burkhard (20 yards), Ryan Taylor (5 yards) and Finney (20 yards). Burkhard had 88 yards receiving on five catches. Besides Nelson, the rest of the Pride running attack was held to 23 yards on 15 attempts.
Up Next: Heritage hosts West Virginia school Hedgesville, which opened the year with a 38-6 win over Washington.
Liberty 41, Potomac Falls 0
The Skinny: Liberty amassed 361 total yards of offense on the ground on 39 carries including 216 yards rushing on just nine carries by Aristotle Howard (who upon scoring shouted: "Courage is a mean with regard to fear and confidence" ... OK, we tease, that was the OTHER Aristotle who said that!). The JR Howard finished with four rushing TDs and a receiving score as well. The Liberty defense intercepted PFalls four times and recovered a fumble for five total turnovers. The Panthes have now dropped 10 straight games with their last win coming in the 2010 season opener.
Up Next: The Panthers host Kettle Run, a team they lost to by a narrow 7-0 score last year but Kettle Run, a school now in its fourth year since opening, crushed Brentsville, 59-0, to open the season.
Loudoun County 42, Freedom 0
The Skinny: The Raiders rolled to this non-district win with a huge 35-0 first half lead before a running clock second half. County QB Jake Lokey went 5 of 9 for 118 yards and threw TD passes of 46 and 30 yards to Brad Szoka (90 yards on 4 receptions). Marcus Rutherford rushed for 74 yards for the Raiders on 16 attempts and scored from 4 yards out. Deron Davis added 58 yards on 7 attempts and scored on a 13-yard run. Zack Green scored on a 17-yard fumble return for the Raiders.
Up Next: Loudoun County has a bye though the Raider surely must wish they could play again this week after the hot start. Freedom, new to AAA this season, faces its first AAA opponent of the year with a trip to Osbourn Park. It will be the Yellow Jackets season opener.
Loudoun Valley 17, Fauquier 7
The Skinny: The Vikings, which won a AAA playoff game last season, celebrated their return down to AA with a win over Fauquier. Valley did all of its scoring in the first half and didn't allow the Falcons on the scoreboard until 6:16 remained in the game. The Vikes got short TD runs from Nick Martin and Danny White. QB Neil Frazier led Valley in rushing with 67 yards on 17 carries and Bryce Wince picked up 35 on 11 attempts. White at QB was just 1 of 6 for 13 yards with Boston College recruit Harrison Jackson making the lone grab. Cody Locklear kicked a 21-yard FG for Valley. The Vikes picked up three Fauquier passes including an INT by White. Fauquier was 8-3 last season before falling in the first round of the playoffs.
Up Next: Loudoun Valley travels to Jame Wood, which edged Heritage Friday, 24-21.
Tuscarora 27, Millbrook 10
The Skinny: The second-year Huskies opened with a strong win over a Pioneer program which is always tough. It was all ground control early for Tuscarora which then scored its first TD on a 34-yard Chad Carerra to Alden Carpenter throw with 1:35 left in the first. Millbrook drove to the Tuscarora 10 but had to settle for a FG to make it 7-3. The Huskies next drive ended with Carerra sneaking it in from the 1, but MB responded with its own TD drive to make it 14-10 ... where the scored stayed until the final quarter. With Tuscarora in the Red Zone, Millbrook's Boomer Kaczmarzewski picked off Carerra and returned the ball past midfield only to fumble it and have Tuscarora recover. A 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty on the MB sideline after the play added to the Huskies momentum and they put the ball in the end zone on three straight runs by surprise transfer Warren Miles (slated as a possible two-way starter for Stone Bridge this year but switched programs just the week before this first game) put the ball in end zone. Tuscarora's last TD was set up by a muffed MB punt which gave the Huskies the ball on the Pioneer 6. Huskies coach Mike Burnett called the win the biggest in the school's young history to the NVDaily after the game.
Up Next: Tuscarora has the week off which should give Miles most time to get familiar with the team's playbook
Woodgrove 37, Jefferson County 19
The Skinny: Woodgrove went on the road to West Virginia and opened the year with a win. Despite falling behind 7-0, Woodgrove came back strong in the second quarter with touchdown runs by Karl Austin and Tyler Workman sandwiched around a 32-yard Josh Sweet interception return for a score. Austin finished with 101 yards on 21 carries and had two more scores, both in the third quarter after Jefferson had trimmed the lead to 23-19. Workman at QB for Woodgrove was 4 of 11 for 48 yards. Robert Warfel added a FG for the Wolverines.
Up Next: Woodgrove hosts a Brentsville squad that lost big in Week One.

Football: Expected Stone Bridge 2-Way Starter Warren Miles Makes an Impact with Tuscarora in First Week

(Aug. 30, 2011) - Of all the surprises in the opening week of the high school football season, none is bigger perhaps than the unexpected move of Stone Bridge High School possible two-way starter junior Warren Miles to Tuscarora where he scored a key touchdown Friday in the Huskies season-opening, 27-10, win over Millbrook.
When football practices started in early August, Miles was practicing with Stone Bridge and expected to challenge for a starting running back spot and also listed by Bulldog coach Mickey Thompson as a key returner to the secondary where he was a second team All-Liberty District DB in 2010.
Miles, while on early Stone Bridge rosters released this season, is not on an updated roster for the season-opener Thursday at Robinson. Stone Bridge assistant AD Brian Parke confirmed Wednesday that Miles was not with the Stone Bridge program any more.
Tuscarora Athletic Director Derek Farrey confirmed Wednesday that Miles, while not listed on the Huskies football roster on the school's athletic website, was enrolled at Tuscarora and had first started practicing with the Huskies football team on Monday Aug. 22.
Stone Bridge is ranked No. 2 in the preseason by the Washington Post but is looking to replace Marcus Harris, who graduated at RB last season.

Miles, while on early Stone Bridge rosters released this season, is not on an updated roster for the season-opener Thursday at Robinson. Stone Bridge assistant AD Brian Parke confirmed Wednesday that Miles was not with the Stone Bridge program any more.
Tuscarora Athletic Director Derek Farrey confirmed Wednesday that Miles, while not listed on the Huskies football roster on the school's athletic website, was enrolled at Tuscarora and had first started practicing with the Huskies football team on Monday Aug. 22.
Stone Bridge is ranked No. 2 in the preseason by the Washington Post but is looking to replace Marcus Harris, who graduated at RB last season.

(Aug. 30, 2011) - The Freedom High School volleyball team continued its good start to the 2011 season with a non-district sweep over Potomac Falls Monday, 25-13, 26-24, 25-10.
The Eagles, moving from the AA Dulles District to the AAA Cedar Run District this year, were led by Kaitlyn LaMantia and Jasmine Jackson both getting 7 kills. Maryam Kaymanesh had 10 assists while Andrea Kirkpatrick had seven.
Also the back row for Freedom featured Andrea Phung with 18 digs while Alyssa Gragasin and Courtney Phung each had five digs a piece. The Eagles had strong serving for Jackson with seven aces while LaMantia had five.

Golf: Stone Bridge Edges Fairfax by a Stroke in 9-Hole Contest as Ashley Shoots 1-Under 35
The match continued a trend of tight matches and low scores for the Bulldogs. Stone Bridge is 2-1 with a 2-stroke loss to Madison, a 5-stroke win over TJ and Monday's down-to-the-last-putt outing. Impressively, the Bulldogs have not only set a school record with a 155 for nine holes this year but are averaging 156 in their three duals.
Backing up Ashley Monday were junior Anthony Kelly and Joe Karasinski, both at 39 and another junior,

News: Potomac Falls Grad Dies in Afghanistan - Friends and Family Call Doug Green an "American Hero"
Spc. Douglas J. Green, 23, of Sterling, died Aug. 28 in Kandahar province of injuries suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device and small arms fire. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
A memorial page on Facebook has been set up for Green and tributes are pouring in from Loudoun and afar as people remember the young man with a great smile, amazing sense of humor and a love of his country that led him into the military.
Green's grandfather on Facebook, Jay Chabrow: "While I'm totally devastated you were taken from us at such an early age, I couldn't be prouder. You are truly my hero."
Another person wrote: "Clearly, you cared about every person you knew and that speaks volume. Thank you so much for your service, you are an American hero. You will forever be missed."
Football: Ashburn Teams Start Year Highly Ranked by Washington Post - Stone Bridge No. 2, Briar Woods No. 13, Broad Run No. 21
(Aug. 29, 2011) - Ashburn's claim to being one of the top area's in the state for football was strengthened once again as the Washington Post has Stone Bridge High School ranked No. 2 in their metro are preseason poll and Briar Woods is No. 13. Broad Run is on the cusp of making it three Ashburn teams in the Top 20 as the Spartans, coming off a big 51-7 win over Park View Friday, are on the bubble at No. 21.

(Aug. 29, 2011) - The Dominion High School girls volleyball team bounced back from a tough five-game loss to Woodgrove last week with a strong second place finish at the Lions/Knights Classic in Charlottesville on Saturday.
The Titans (3-2 on the season) beat Fauquier, 2-1; swept Louisa and R.E. Lee in two; before falling to Liberty in the finals. Dominion won the opening game against Liberty in the finals but fell, 2-1, dropping the deciding game, 21-19.

Volleyball: Woodgrove Continues Hot Start with a Perfect Tournament Saturday
(Aug. 28, 2011) - The Woodgrove High School volleyball has already won more matches in the first three days of the 2011 season than during the school's first campaign after a clean sweep Saturday at the Wolverines own tournament.
Woodgrove, which went 3-18 last season when the school opened with no seniors, improved to 4-0 on the year with sweeps Saturday over J.E.B. Stuart, Manassas Park and Millbrook.
The Wolverines took Stuart 25-18, 25-21, 25-20; beat Manassas Park 25-11, 25-13, 25-11; and then defeated Millbrook 25-22, 25-18, 25-16.

Cross Country: Hurricane Irene Can't Stop Loudoun Runners from Great Meadows Invitational

The Plains (Aug. 28, 2011) – While the threat of Hurricane Irene dampened the size of the Great Meadow Invitational Saturday, it did provide a good local outlook for the 2011 cross country season with 10 of Loudoun’s 12 high schools running at the meet.
The Loudoun County High School boys -- trying to follow up on a shining 2010-11 school year that included a regular-season cross country, a third place finish at the AA state cross country meet and the school’s first outdoor track and field district title since 2002 – took third place in the boys varsity A race with junior Patrick Joseph third individually with a 16:08 on the Great Meadows non-state course.

(Aug. 26, 2011) - The Dulles District opened with a full schedule on the first big night of girls high school volleyball in Loudoun. 4-time defending AA state champion Loudoun County opened with a win and two former Dulles teams making their return to the district, Heritage and Loudoun Valley, also each notched victories.
Finally, Woodgrove edged Dominion in a 5-match thriller and Freedom beat Briar Woods in non-district play.

(Aug.26, 2011) - Trying to beat Irene, the Loudoun County JV football scrimmage at Freedom High School Saturday has been moved up to 10 a.m. The freshman scrimmage will be held at the same time.

(Aug. 26, 2011) - The Dominion High School golf team took another step Thursday towards the Titans first ever Dulles District regular season title with a 153-170 win over Heritage in a 9-hole match played at Trump National.
The Titans were led by Erik Dulik's 34 and Sam Stilwell's 38. Kurt Funkhouser (40)
and Brendan O'Hara (41) rounded out the scoring.
The Titans, with a comfortable lead in the district race after the two Dulles mini tournaments, are now 3-1 midway through the dual meet season and can probably wrap up the title with a .500 showing in the final four matches. (See below for a recap of Dominion's season to date)

Volleyball: Season Opens Tonight with Dulles District Full Schedule
(Aug. 25, 2011) - With a 9-team district there isn't much time for preseason so the Dulles District opens the regular season with a full volleyball schedule tonight, including the return of Heritage and Loudoun Valley to the AA ranks.
4-time defending AA state champion Loudoun County is at Potomac Falls. The other Dulles matches: Dominion at Woodgrove; Tuscarora at Heritage; and Loudoun Valley at Park View.
Heritage and Valley move down from the AAA Cedar Run District, swapping places with Broad Run and Freedom, which move up in classification. Freedom is at Briar Woods tonight in non-district action.

(Aug. 25, 2011) - Loudoun County High School athletic director Ken Wright released Thursday that the Loudoun County Public Schools school board has approved Richard Sullivan as the Raiders new varsity softball coach.
Sullivan comes to Loudoun County from Stone Bridge High School, where he compiled a record of 55-18 over three years as the head coach, including a Liberty District title. Sullivan has also has been a head baseball coach at George Marshall High School in Fairfax.
Wright: "Coach and I will be working diligently to fill out his staff and get ready for a great season in 2012."

Youth Sports - Girls Basketball - Rising 6th Grade Teams Forming, coached by Tuscarora Varsity Coach Newkirk
(Aug. 24, 2011) - Premier Sports Performance Academy (PSPA) is having tryouts Sat. Aug. 27 and Mon. Aug. 29 for rising 6th grade girls. The head coach of the 11U team is Tuscarora High School varsity coach Michael Newkirk.
The tryouts are at the FLEXX Center in Lansdowne, 2 to 3:30 on Saturday and then at Tuscarora High School on Monday from 8 to 9 p.m. It is recommended that players make both tryouts if possible. The cost of the tryout is a one-time payment of $25.

Basketball: Potomac Falls Senior Graves Pulling Down the College Offers
Sterling (Aug. 22, 2011) - Potomac Falls High School senior Gregory Graves, who helped the Panthers to back-to-back VHSL Division 4 boys basketball state titles, has already hauled down four college offers with more schools taking interest in the 6-foot-7 talented player.
Graves, who has generated buzz this summer while playing with the Richmond-based Team Loaded AAU squad, holds offers from Longwood University, Manhattan College, Mount Saint Mary's and Northeastern.
News: Polls Open at 6 a.m. for Primaries Tuesday
(Aug. 22, 2011) - Polls in Loudoun County will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 23, for the 2011 Primary Election. Anyone in the 31st Senate District is eligible to participate in the Democratic Primary. Anyone in the 13th Senate District, the 10th House District and/or the 87th House District is eligible to participate in the Republican Primary. There are ten Loudoun County precincts not voting this election and several precincts in which only part of the precinct will be voting because of the new house and/or senate lines resulting from the recent redistricting.

Golf: Dominion Grad Boudreau in PGA Professional Golf Management Program at Eastern Kentucky
(Aug. 19, 2011) - Dominion High School grad and former varsity golfer Richard Boudreau has been accepted into the School of Business Technology and PGA Professional Golf Management Program at Eastern Kentucky University.
Boudreau will be playing golf with the PGA PGM in tournaments throughout the year, and "The Jones Cup" championship, which pits players from PGA PGM programs across the country. Boudreau will also be trying out for the EKU golf team as a walkon.

(Aug. 19, 2011) - Freedom High School finished runner-up at the first Cedar Run District mini golf tournament on Aug. 11 at the 1757 Golf Club with Broad Run taking third. Both schools have moved up to AAA this season from the AA Dulles District.

Golf: Dominion and Briar Woods Tie for Cheer Invitational Title; Heritage and Potomac Falls Just Two Strokes Back
(Aug. 18, 2011) - There wasn't a whole lot of separation between Dulles District golf teams at Tuesday's 2011 Cheers Invitational at Algonkian with Dominion and Briar Woods tying for the title with 319 points and Heritage and Potomac Falls just two strokes behind in the tightest finish in years for a district mini tournament.
Heritage's Ryan Douglass was the low medalist at 69, two strokes ahead of Tuscarora's Alec Gard. A quartet of players finished at 75: Christian Fortier of Potomac Falls, Adam Ochs of Briar Woods, Sam Stillwell of Dominion and Ian Hildebrand of Loudoun Valley.
The tie for the Titans was enough to keep Dominion in the lead for the Dulles regular-season title as the Sterling school took the first district mini of the year. Tuscarora, runner-up in the first mini, was fifth Tuesday at 327 which gave the Titans even more breathing room. The Titans can probably lose as many as two dual meets and still take home the district crown.
Woodgrove's Aaron Price won closest to the pin honors with a shot less than 10 feet to the hole. Dominion's Brenden O'Hara won the long drive contest with a 277-yard blast.
The tournament was not only a Dulles District mini tournament but it featured all 12 Loudoun schools with the three AAA schools in competition as well.

Tuscarora, runner-up in the first mini, was fifth Tuesday at 327 which gave the Titans even more breathing room. The Titans can probably lose as many as two dual meets and still take home the district crown.
Woodgrove's Aaron Price won closest to the pin honors with a shot less than 10 feet to the hole. Dominion's Brenden O'Hara won the long drive contest with a 277-yard blast.
The tournament was not only a Dulles District mini tournament but it featured all 12 Loudoun schools with the three AAA schools in competition as well.

Girls Basketball: Loudoun County Center Cummings to Play at NCAA Division I St. Frances College
(Aug. 16, 2011) - Casey Cummings, rising senior center at Loudoun County High School, has verbally accepted a scholarship to attend NCAA Division I St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights, NY. St Francis competes in the Northeast Conference.
Cummings averaged 10.8 points and 12.7 rebounds as a junior for the 26-5 Raiders in 2010-11. She played AAU basketball this summer for the Potomac Valley Vogues 11th Grade National Team and is the 4th member of the Vogues to verbally accept a Division 1 scholarship. The Vogues finished 3rd at the AAU National Tournament in Orlando, FL in July.

The 6-foot-2 Jackson caught 30 balls last year for 329 yards and six touchdowns. Jackson helped the Vikings make the playoffs last year and advance to the AAA regional semifinals. He is expected to be a big-play maker for Valley this season as the Vikings move down to the AA Dulles District.

• At 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 18th, there will be a PowerPoint presentation and question-and-answer session at Mercer Middle School. There will be gifts for the first 100 people attending.

News: Good Shepherd Alliances Selects Two Loudoun County Public School Seniors to Board of Directors

The young adults will have full voting privileges and serve on the GSA outreach committee working shoulder to shoulder with the Board of Directors to promote GSA homeless services and programs in all twelve Loudoun County High Schools.

The Country’s second highest ranking senior’s tour - the Sunbelt Senior Tour - is making its return to Loudoun County with the 2011 Cannonball Invitational Pro-Am, running from September 11 through the 13.

Girls Volleyball: Under Armour High School All-American Watch List Includes 7 from Loudoun
(Aug. 10, 2011) - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released Tuesday the Under Armour Girls' High School All-America volleyball athlete Watch List for the 2011-12 season and seven of the 11 girls from Virginia are from Loudoun.
This year's watch list includes 646 players from 38 states and serves as the starting point for the Under Armour All-America selection process. 4-time defending state champion Loudoun County placed two girls on the list: Jenna Strange and Gabby Serafin. The other five Loudoun players include: Breanna Atkinson (The Madeira School), Mallory Brickerd (Broad Run), Alex Heyn (Stone Bridge), Kelsey Hrebenach (Heritage) and Kaitlyn LaMantia (Freedom).
In November, the AVCA will name 48 student-athletes as an Under Armour All-American, with 24 players being selected to both a First-Team and Second-Team. Each of the 24 players on the First-Team will be invited to play in the Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match and Skills Competition. The event will be held on Friday, December 16 from 8-10 p.m. (CST) at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, in conjunction with the 2011 AVCA Annual Convention.

Lacrosse: Dominion D-Pole Troy Farmer to Play at Stevenson
Sterling (Aug. 10, 2011) - Dominion High School senior D-Pole Troy Farmer has verbally committed to playing lacrosse next year at NCAA Division III Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md. Farmer was first team Dulles District as he helped the Titans to their third straight district title appearance.
Stevenson went 18-3 in the spring, finishing runner-up in the CAC and making it to the NCAA quarterfinals. The Mustangs roster included Dylan Zook (Loudoun Valley)

Golf: Dominion Edges Tuscarora to Take Dulles District Mini Tournament; Titans Sam Stillwell Takes Individual Honors
(Aug. 9, 2011) - The Dominion High School golf team, led by low medalist Sam Stillwell (72) and Erik Dulick (73), edged Tuscarora Monday to take first place in the Dulles District mini tournamet at Loudoun Golf and Country Club in Purcellville.
The Titans, with Kurt Funkhouse shooting 75, finished at 305, four strokes ahead of the Huskies, which posted 309 on the strength of rounds from Alec Gard (75), Caleb Keel (76) and Phillip Corcoran (76).
Heritage finished third at 320 with Ryan Douglass shooting 73. Briar Woods, led by Nick Vazzana's 78, shot 324 with top player Adam Ochs not in the field. Loudoun Valley was fifth at 326 with Ian Hildebrand shooting 76.
The mini tournament Monday is one of two events that helps determine the district's regular season champion with each tournament worth one-third towards the title and the dual meet season another one-third.

T2RBL is a youth basketball organization that operates in coordination with the Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PR&CS) and serves boys and girls in grades 4-12 in the Stone Bridge and Briar Woods community.
T2RBL provides organized and competitive basketball with emphasis placed on improvement for all players, coaches and officials. T2RBL is supported and run entirely by volunteers so coaches must also register via the league's web site. Additional information and directions for player and coach registration can be found at the league web site (www.erhoops.org). No registrations will be accepted after the September 11 deadline.

(Aug. 9, 2011) - Last year the local Hoops of Hope raised $19,600 for children in Africa and this year's event scheduled for Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. at Eagle Ridge Middle School in Ashburn is looking to beat that number.
The free throw shooting event raises funds for children who have been orphaned by HIV and AIDS in Africa. Over the past five years, Hoops of Hope participants worldwide have raised over 2 million dollars. The money raised by participants has gone to sponsor over 100 orphans, fund a water project in Kenya and build a high school and two medical clinics in Zambia.

Field Hockey: Loudoun Field Hockey Association Registration Opens, New Fields for Fall
Registration is open for U14 Travel and recreational divisions in East, South and Western Loudoun in grade divisions: 3/4, 5/6, 7/8 and High School.
League organizer Lisa Craig: "This year most of the high schools have established official clubs at the schools and it will be an exciting season with all of their games playing on premium turf fields. Our league is open to all playing levels, and encourages those new to field hockey to try it out. We also host recreational and competitive adult leagues to support and promote the sport throughout Loudoun."

Baseball: Woodgrove Senior Matthew Reed to Play at NCAA Division I Clemson
(Aug. 7, 2011) - Woodgrove High School senior catcher Matthew Reed will play next year at NCAA Division I Clemson according to his travel baseball team the Canes North 2012 squad.
Reed is a 2-year member of the Canes program and is regarded as one of the top catchers in the state of Virginia.
Canes GM, Jeff Petty on Reed: "Matt is a big time catch and throw talent. He really has as good an arm behind the plate as you will see at this level. Reed is a big strong physical athlete that has some pop at the plate and he can really recieve behind the dish. Great kid from a great family. We couldn't be happier for Matt and look forward to watching him play in the ACC."

Football: Briar Woods' Carter Selected for U.S. Army All American Bowl in San Antonio
