Football: Beat the LoCo Experts - Week Two
(Aug. 27, 2010) - Nobody had a perfect record in Week One as three of our LoCo Experts went 6-1 as well as four of our fans.
The winner of a VivaLoudoun t-shirt was "TBonz" of Ashburn! See below for our standings. 19 fans played the first week but you can join in and with a few correct picks, can easily catch the leaders ... the winner at the end of the year receives $100 and ever lasting fame!
Since we had to draw names out of the hat to break the 4-way fan tie this past week, this week with your picks, please provide the final score for the Broad Run at Heritage game as a tiebreaker!
We would love for some other experts to join us but haven't heard back from them yet ... we even asked those nice lads from the Washington Post but they didn't respond ... they might have been busy trying to dial Loudoun into their GPS devices ...
Email picks to dan.sousa@vivaloudoun.com by 7 p.m. Friday. We will use your first name and hometown or a chosen nickname!

Purcellville (Sept. 1, 2010) - Stone Bridge High School enters the 2010 volleyball season with an impressive roster worthy of being considered among the best in the state. In their season opener Tuesday night, the Bulldogs showed off their skill set in a 25-11, 25-10 and 25-22 sweep of defending AAA state champion Loudoun Valley.
Ranked No. 1 in the latest LoCo Elite 5 -- a top five volleyball poll for Loudoun's 12 public schools voted on by the Loudoun Times-Mirror and VivaLoudoun.com -- Stone Bridge fully controlled play in the first two sets Tuesday. After the Vikings showed life in the third set and built a 19-15 lead, the Bulldogs (1-0) closed the set on a 10-3 run to complete the sweep.

Volleyball: 3-Time Defending State Champion Loudoun County Opens with Win Over Briar Woods
By Dan Sousa
VivaLoudoun.com Editor
Leesburg (Sept. 1, 2010) - Over the years the names and faces have changed within the Loudoun County High School volleyball program, but the winning remains as the three-time defending AA state champion Raiders opened their 2010 season Tuesday with a Dulles District sweep over Briar Woods before a large early-season crowd.
The 25-21, 25-13, 25-11 victory handed Briar Woods (1-2) its first loss of the year and despite graduating five starters in the 10-player rotating line-up including Juliane Hanna, the Virginia State Player of the Year, the Raiders put enough talent on the court to back a fifth consecutive run to the AA state title game.
After falling in the state finals in 2006 -- when the current seniors on the team were still in middle school -- the Raiders have since captured three straight state champions, running up a 82-4 record in the process.

Savage had coached for four years in the CYFL and AYFL local football leagues and then eight years at the high school level, the past four at Flint Hill in Oakton where he served at various times as quarterback coach, defensive back and speed and specialties coach.
"Leaving coaching in the fall is like cutting off my right arm, but supporting my family is like breathing," Savage told VivaLoudoun. "I need to spend time with the family, supporting my wife, kids and my surrogate kids while I they play or act. I also need to take more time with my businesses and get back in the community."
