(June 29, 2013) - Amber Harlow, daughter of Chris and Doris Harlow, a rising Junior at Freedom High School (South Riding) has been named as a 2013 Brine National High School All-American and has been selected to represent the Washington DC Region at the 2013 Brine National Lacrosse Classic to be held in Boyds, Maryland June 30-July 3, 2013.

Lacrosse: Woodgrove Boys, Girls End Year in State Quarterfinals

(June 3, 2013) - The Woodgrove High School boys and girls lacrosse teams saw their seasons come to an end Friday in the VHSL state tournament quarterfinals.

The Wolverine girls (17-3) couldn't hold a 6-goal lead at home and fell to Osbourn Park, 15-13, while the Wolverine boys (11-8) nearly pulled off an upset on the road, giving Northwest Sectional champion undefeated Battlefield (20-0) a scare before falling, 12-11.

Girls Lacrosse: Loudoun Valley Left Standing! Vikings Girls Knock off Battlefield, Advance to State Semifinals

(June 3, 2013) - There was a time when the Loudoun Valley High School girls lacrosse team had trouble breaking into the LoCo Top 5 poll, but as the seasons starts its final week the Vikings are the last local girls team standing, having knocked off Northwest Sectional champion Battlefield, 13-9, on Friday to advance to the VHSL state tournament semifinals.

Loudoun Valley (17-4) will face Northern Sectional runner-up Langley (13-5) on Tuesday, June 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Westfield High School.

Spring Sports: 11 Loudoun Teams Plays this Week in State Tournaments!

(June 3, 2013) - School ends this week in Loudoun on Thursday but athletes from 11 local teams hope they are still playing on Saturday as the Virginia High School League holds its annual state tournaments in baseball, softball, lacrosse, soccer and tennis this week. Heritage: A Whole Lot of Pride on College Signing Day

(May 22, 2013) - There was a whole lot of Pride at Heritage High School this week as the school held a ceremony for athletes playing in college next year. The 10 athletes featured in the ceremony, some of them previously not on our College Choice Chart, brings Heritage's total commitments from the Class of 2013 to 22 athletes.

Lacrosse: Loudoun Teams Sweep Into Sectional Semifinals

(May 21, 2013) - Last year the AA Northern Sectional finals was an all-Loudoun affair and this year is shaping up to be a repeat as four local teams won first round games Monday night to advance to the sectional semifinals Wednesday.

The Woodgrove boys went on the road for a 15-4 win at Culpeper and the Tuscarora girls made the bus trip to Fauquier worth their it with a 23-16 victory. Here at home, a pair of all-Dulles District first games saw the home teams prevail with the Dominion boys tripling up on Briar Woods, 15-5, and the Loudoun Valley girls doubling Loudoun County, 20-10.

The Woodgrove boys and Tuscarora girls now have to face the Dulles District regular-season and tournament champions in the semifinals: the Loudoun County boys and Woodgrove girls. The winner of those semifinals will clinch a state bid and advance to the sectional finals.

The Dominion boys will be on the road at Fauquier and the Loudoun Valley girls will be at Kettle Run in the other semifinals.

Boys Lax: Woodgrove 15, Culpeper 4
Wolverine fans were "Loving" their team's play Monday with Jack Loving scoring six goals with three assists in the runaway. Jeremy Kendall dished out five assists and Ryan Reynolds had nine saves in goal.

Other goals from Woodgrove came from: Kyle Reilly (2), Sam Weber (2), Conner Loving (1), Kellen McCarthy (1), Matt Sears (1) and Trey Rustand (1). Assists were recorded by: Kellen McCarthy (1) and Kyle Reilly (1).

Girls Lax: Loudoun Valley 20, Loudoun County 10
It was just 5-3 at the half before the Vikings exploded for 15 second-half goals to advance to the sectional semifinals. Junior Corley Simons led the way with six goals for Valley while a host of players had hat tricks including senior Megan Williamson, sophomore Maya Ebrahimnejad, junior Ashlyn DiLoreto and junior Courtney Schollian.

Sophomore Haley Shuford had 12 saves in goal for the Vikes.

A key to the strong second half was the draw control by Simons and Ebrahimnejad's dominance on ground balls.

Also scoring for Valley were junior Sarah Ashworth and sophomore Lily Hamilton. Assists were recorded by Ashworth (2), Williamson (1), and Ebrahimnejad (1).

Lacrosse: AA Northern Sectional Starts Tonight

(May 20, 2013) - The AA Northern Sectional boys and girls lacrosse tournament starts tonight and some of the match-ups may look familiar to Dulles District fans as the Dominion High School boys host Briar Woods and the Loudoun Valley girls host Loudoun County.

In the other two first round games, the Woodgrove boys are at Culpeper and the Tuscarora girls are at Fauquier. On the boys side, Loudoun County and Fauquier have byes and on the girls side, Woodgrove and Kettle Run have byes.

Girls Lacrosse: Foxcroft Beats Highland to Advance to State Title Game

Middleburg (May 17, 2013) - Senior captain Carter Ware scored with 3:43 remaining and a rock-hard defense allowed just one goal in the second half Friday morning to lead Foxcroft to a 7-6 victory over Highland School at Collegiate School in Richmond and a berth in the VISAA State Lacrosse Final for the first time in school history.

Foxcroft, the No. 2 seed in Division II, will play for the championship Friday at 11 a.m. against top-seeded Covenant School (Charlottesville). The game will be video-streamed live on VISAA.TV.

Girls Lacrosse: Woodgrove Doubles Up on the 3-Peat as Wolverines Win 3rd Straight Dulles Championship

(May 15, 2013) - Woodgrove High School clinched a third straight Dulles District regular-season girls lacrosse title this spring with a perfect 10-0 run and Wednesday night the Wolverines made it three straight district tournament championships as well with a 11-7 win over Purcellville rival Loudoun Valley.

Woodgrove got scoring from Olivia Becker, Courtney Olivier, Roni Salamone, Nicole Devonoge, Kiki Hornyak and Morgan Miller and the district's Player of the Year, goalie Bailey Carver had six saves in net.

Girls Lacrosse: 2013 Liberty District Teams Released

(May 10, 2013) - The 2013 Liberty District girls lacrosse teams have been released and Langley's Grace Goeettman was named Offensive Player of the Year and teammate Erin Long was named the Defensive Player of the Year in a vote of the district's coaches.

Madison's Amanda Counts was named the Coach of the Year.

(May 10, 2013) - Woodgrove High School senior goalie Bailey Carver, who helped the Wolverines to a third straight AA Dulles District girls lacrosse title, has been named the district's Player of the Year in a vote of the coaches. Tuscarora's Anna Kate Collier, who has the Huskies in the district tournament semifinals, was named the Coach of the Year.

Lacrosse: Cedar Run Tournament - Freedom Boys, Girls Advance to Semifinals

(May 9, 2013) - Both the Freedom High School boys and girls lacrosse teams advanced to the AAA Cedar Run District semifinals with wins on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.

The Eagles boys edged Osbourn, 11-10. The Eagles girls blasted Osbourn, 18-5. Both teams will face top seed Battlefield Thursday in the semifinals in Haymarket.

Broad Run boys and girls will host the other semifinals on Thursday.

Girls Lacrosse: Woodgrove Makes it a 3-Peat with a 10-0 Dulles District Regular Season Run

(May 7, 2013) - The Woodgrove High School girls lacrosse team not only won the Dulles District regular-season for a third straight year but the Wolverines challenged themselves with an ambitious non-district schedule that resulted in losses to AAA teams Oakton and Stone Bridge.

Of course the Wolverines will have to face AAA schools once the district tournament is finished because the VHSL holds an open state tournament across all classifications. Woodgrove should be ready, even owning a 15-4 win over a Battlefield team that won the AAA Cedar Run that includes Broad Run and Freedom.
