News: Coaching Changes from June 11 School Board Meeting Include 4 New Head Coaches

(June 21, 2013) - Briar Woods High School's competitive cheer coach Kristin Develli, who in 2012 led the Falcons to their four consecutive straight AA state titles, will not be at the helm in the fall as former Dominion coach Lucia Curry was approved as the new Briar Woods varsity head coach at the June 11 school board meeting.

Other new varsity coaches according to the board docs:

• Juliet Kenny will be John Champe's head gymnastics coach in the winter. She was an assistant in the Knights first year under Hope Spivey.
• Sema Knonur is Heritage High School's new varsity cheer coach
• Kendall Beebe, a Potomac Falls High School grad, is Park View's new girls volleyball coach.

Baseball: Heritage's Turner to Play at Roanoke College

(May 31, 2013) - Every senior on the Heritage High School baseball team will now play in college with the announcement that Zach Turner will play at NCAA Division III Roanoke College in Salem. Heritage now has 23 athletes on the college choice chart, third most behind Woodgrove (24) and Stone Bridge (27).

Baseball: Fletcher Swings Momentum with 3-Run Blast as Loudoun Valley Beats Heritage, 10-4, in Region Opener

Leesburg (May 27, 2013) - A monumental momentum swing during the first round of the Region II baseball tournament came off the bat of Loudoun Valley High School’s Chad Fletcher in the form of a 3-run home run over the scoreboard in left field as the Vikings went on to defeat Heritage, 10-4.

“One swing of the bat, momentum can change in a game whether it’s a home run or a groundball with a double play,” said Fletcher, a senior first baseman. “I was just trying to make something go for my team. I hit it pretty good and gave us some momentum.”

Baseball: Region II Brackets - 3 Dulles Teams in Quarterfinals

(May 28, 2013) - The Region II baseball quarterfinals is set for Tuesday, May 28 with three Dulles District teams playing: Potomac Falls hosts Millbrook, Loudoun Valley at Sherando and Woodgrove at Monticello.

Baseball: Potomac Falls' Engelmann Outduels Heritage's Hopeck as Panthers Win Dulles District Tournament Title

Sterling (May 24, 2013) - The top four hitters in the Potomac Falls High School batting order combined for six hits, reached base eight times and scored all four runs in the Panthers 4-3 win over Heritage Friday night in the Dulles District baseball tournament championship. It was the Panthers third title in the last five years.

“The top of our order needs to get it started,” senior cleanup hitter Zachary Engelmann said. “We're knocking in runs. But it was a total team effort. We need the whole order to win games. Everyone is important and everyone showed up tonight.”

Baseball: Howard Rallies Pride Past Wolverines, 7-2, Into Dulles District Finals

 Purcellville (May 21, 2013) – Heritage High Schoool’s Jack Howard was the answer for the Pride in Tuesday night’s Dulles District semifinal at Woodgrove as he singled to center field driving in two runners to crack open a tied baseball game which Heritage would eventually win 7-2. Matt Gloger got the complete win, allowing just one earned run.

Heritage: A Whole Lot of Pride on College Signing Day

(May 22, 2013) - There was a whole lot of Pride at Heritage High School this week as the school held a ceremony for athletes playing in college next year. The 10 athletes featured in the ceremony, some of them previously not on our College Choice Chart, brings Heritage's total commitments from the Class of 2013 to 22 athletes.

Baseball: Hopeck Throws 1-Hitter as Pride Knock off Raiders, 10-0, in Dulles District Quarterfinals

 Leesburg (May 17, 2013) – On a night full of extra innings in the Dulles District, the Heritage Pride, backed by a Zack Hopeck one-hit shutout, knocked off their crosstown rival Raiders 10-0 in a shortened five inning game.

“It was typical Hopeck,” Heritage coach Ryan Price said. “He was commanding the zone, keeping his pitch counts down, getting ahead of hitters and making them take defensive swings. He gave our defense all the opportunities to make plays behind him.”

Leesburg (May 9, 2013) – Heritage High School right-hander Matt Gloger was dominant on Thursday night, allowing only six base runners in the midst of throwing a complete game, 1-0, shutout over the Loudoun Valley Vikings (12-7 overall, 10-5 in the district).

The Pride (12-7, 11-4) scored their only run of the game in the third inning, against equally as dominant Loudoun Valley starter Will Reed, on a Brandall Peter’s infield pop fly that was dropped allowing sophomore Tyler Richards to score.

Girls Volleyball: Heritage Hires Allison Smith as New Varsity Coach

Leesburg (May 9, 2013) - Heritage High School announced Thursday the hiring of Allison Smith as the new head girls volleyball varsity coach.

Smith is a graduate of Belmont Abbey College, where she was a scholarship member of the volleyball team and officer for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. In 2007 she led her conference for service aces, ranking 31st nationally.

Girls Soccer: Heritage SR Mackenzie Moore to Play at Flagler College

(May 8, 2013) - Heritage High School senior forward Mackenzie Moore will play women's soccer next year at NCAA Division II Flagler College in sunny St. Augustine, Fla.

(May 7, 2013) - Two more Heritage High School seniors have made their college choices with Austin Brundage committing to playing lacrosse next year at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga. and midfielder Jacob Thiel committing to playing soccer next year at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa.

(May 7, 2013) - Heritage High School senior Camden Abbey will play baseball next year at NCAA Division III Shenandoah University. The infielder/pitcher leads the Pride with 17 runs driven in this season.

(May 3, 2013) - Heritage High School senior Breana Smart will be taking her basketball game to NCAA Division III Lynchburg College, according to Pride head coach coach Robert Smart.

Boys Soccer: Heritage's Munson Honored for Most Wins by a Female Coach in a Men's Program

(April 26, 2013) - Earlier this month, Heritage High School boys soccer coach Betsy Munson was honored by the Virginia High School Coaches Association as her current 136 career wins is most all-time by a female coach for men’s soccer in the state of Virginia.

Boys Lacrosse: Doin' Work Lacrosse Camp Set for Heritage in June

(April 20, 2013) - Sign ups are underway for the first ever Doin' Work Lacrosse Camp at Heritage High School from June 18-20 with three age divisions (grades 9-12, grades 6-8 and grades 3-5).

The Camp, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at a cost of $275 total, is run by Vision Sports, owned by Rob Smart, certified personal trainer and speed, strength and conditioning coach, and Heritage High School boys lacrosse coach Jason "Choppy" Burke.
