Soccer: Loudoun Boys 98 Red Advances to Region I Finals, One Win Away from US Youth Soccer National Championships


(July 1, 2013) - The Loudoun 98 Boys Red soccer team is one win away from earning at rip to the US Youth Soccer National Championships later this month in Overland Park, Kan. after advancing to the finals of the Region I Championships.

Loudoun knocked off the FC Somers Razors from New York, 2-1, in Monday's semifinals and will play Penn Fusion SA 98 in the finals Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Along the way at the tournament at the University of Rhode Island, the Loudoun team has picked up four wins in four days including coming back from down 2-0 to beat defending regional champion Bethesda SC Blue PL, 5-2, in pool play.

News: Soccerfest 2013 Features Former D.C. United Stars at Morven Park in Leesburg

(June 29, 2013) - Virginia Calvary FC is hosting Soccerfest 2013 this weekend at Morvern Park in Leesburg, featuring autograph sessions with former D.C. United stars Eddie Pope and Mark Simpson (Saturday) and John Harkes and Mike Ammann (Sunday).

The two-day celebration includes 4x4 tournaments for ages 5-16 as well as adult divisions, instructional clinics.

News: Athletic Revolution Revving Up with Summer Camps and Fall Leagues

(May 22, 2013) - The Athletic Revolution in Ashburn continues, quite literally, with upcoming summer camps and fall leagues at the area's newest indoor facility, the 6,000-square-foot facility of Athletic Revolution which opened just about six months ago.

Athletic Revolution was first founded in Louisville, KY, in 2008  and is a franchisor for coaches who want to train kids from ages 6-18 in overall fitness. Athletic Revolution in Ashburn is owned and operated by Liam and Brandee Daly.

Liam Daly played lacrosse and soccer and coached lacrosse in college. This summer the facility, with two turf fields, one 90 feet by 30 feet and the other 70 by 30, is offering football skills camps (June 10-14, July 15-19, August 5-9), soccer skills camps (June 17-21, July 22-26, Aug. 12-16), lacrosse skills camps (June 24-28, July 29-Aug. 2) and a multisport camp (Aug. 12-16).

Women's Soccer: Fewer than 1,000 Tickets Remain for Washington Spirits Home Debut, Host NY Squad with Abby Wambach

Germantown, MD (April 20, 2013) - After a two-year absence, women's professional soccer officially returns to Washington, D.C. region tonight as the Washington Spirit host the Western New York Flash and reigning world player of the year Abby Wambach in their National Women's Soccer League debut at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, Md. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET. Tickets online at tickets.washingtonspirit.com. Box office opens at 5 p.m., gates at 5:0 p.m.

On the heels of announcing its name and receiving approval to move forward with the stadium, the Ashburn-based Virginia Cavalry FC have officially unveiled its primary logo.

With the North American Soccer League (NASL) set for its league-wide opening kick this weekend, Virginia Cavalry FC is set for its inaugural season in 2014.

News: Loudoun County Approves Construction of Ashburn Stadium

(April 4, 2013) - The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Wednesday to approve the request to build a privately financed 5,500-seat stadium in Ashburn within the One Loudoun development at the interchange of Route 7 and Loudoun County Parkway.

Soccer: Loudoun Soccer College Showcase Features Top Teams from Mid-Atlantic Region this Weekend

(March 2, 2013) - The second annual Loudoun Soccer College Showcase this weekend features some of the top teams from the Mid-Atlantic Region with play in from U15 to U19.

Games today are being held at Loudoun Soccer Park in Leesburg and at Word of Grace (Old Redskins Park) in Herndon. On Sunday play continues at those two sites plus the turf fields at Tuscarora and Woodgrove high schools. Check out the tournament website here.

Teams playing are from Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, and West Virginia. And more than 60 men and women college soccer coaches are registered to attend the weekend.

News: Ashburn Stadium Backers Plan "Rally for the Ballpark" at Tuesday's Planning Commission Meeting

(Feb. 18, 2013) - The group planning the new stadium in Ashburn, that is the hopeful future home of the Loudoun Hounds minor league baseball club and Virginia Cavalry North American Soccer League franchise, is planning a "Rally for the Ball Park" prior to the Tuesday, Feb. 19 planning commission public hearing on the development.

Starting at 4:45 pm. on the lawn at the Loudoun County government center in Leeesburg (1 Harrison Street, SE) the rally will include former Major League Baseball player Frank Howard and also former D.C. United and U.S. Men's Soccer star John Harkes.

(Feb. 6, 2013) - A pair of Loudoun Valley High School soccer standouts have committed to play in college next year with Anthony Flores choosing NCAA Division III York College of Pennsylvania and Andrea Garcia headed for NCAA Division II Pfeiffer University in North Carolina.

Feb. 5, 2013) - Briar Woods High School announced that three of student/athletes will be signing National Letters of Intents on Wednesday, Feb. 6th in a ceremony to be held in the school's library at 4:15 p.m. Signing will be NCAA Division I football players Cam Serigne (Wake Forest) and Matt Rolin (Florida), and D2 boys soccer player Kent Legg (Southern New Hampshire University).

Girls Soccer: Woodgrove to Celebrate Eight Seniors Headed to College Ranks with Ceremony on Jan. 29

Purcellville (Jan. 24, 2013) - Defending VHSL AA girls soccer state champion Woodgrove High School has eight seniors that will play at the college level next year and the Wolverines will celebrate the talented group with a ceremony on Jan. 29 at 4 p.m. in the school's library.

Six of the seniors will sign their National Letter of Intent on Feb. 1 to play NCAA Division I soccer:

  • Maggie Buxton (James Madison)
  • Bergen Elkjer (Indiana State)

Indianapolis (Jan. 18, 2012) -- The Washington Spirit selected four of the brightest stars in NCAA women's soccer -- including Broad Run High School grad Holly King (Florida midfielder) -- in the National Women's Soccer League's inaugural draft on Friday morning at the Indiana Convention Center, bolstering the club's attack with several prolific goalscorers and further adding to the Spirits's local flavor with three draftees from the national capital region.

Boys Soccer: Briar Woods Keeper Kent Legg Commits to D2 Power Southern New Hampshire University

Ashburn (Dec. 13, 2012) - Kent Legg, senior goalkeeper at Briar Woods High School, committed this week to play men's soccer next year for Southern New Hampshire University, which finished 5th in the nation in NCAA Division II this year with a 19-4 record.

Last spring Legg recorded a 0.62 goals against percentage with six shutouts, working on his seventh shutout and fourth in a row when he suffered a broken tibia while making a save against Heritage in the team's second to last game of the regular season.

Women's Soccer: Broad Run Grad Holly King Named SEC Defensive Player of the Year

(Oct. 30, 2012) - University of Florida seniors Erika Tymrak (Bradenton, Fla.) and Broad Run High School grad Holly King (Ashburn, Va.) picked up Southeastern Conference Players of the Year honors and are joined by two other Gators on 2012 All-Southeastern Conference teams, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Tymrak is the first Gator named the SEC Offensive Player of the Year since the league began in 2005 announcing a SEC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year. King is the SEC Defensive Player of the Year and is the third Gator since 2009 to earn the honor. A Gator has now picked up a SEC Player of the Year honor 12 times in the program’s history.

Soccer: Loudoun Boys 99 Red Win YMS Tournament


(Oct. 18, 2012) - The Loudoun Soccer 99 Boys Red won the Elite North Bracket of the YMS Tournament over Columbus Day weekend. The event is a prestigious east coast tournament located outside of Philadelphia.
