(July 5, 2013) - Park View High School’s Class of 2013 got a heartfelt sendoff from their principal.

Dr. Virginia Minshew is no Natasha Bedingfield, but she began her parting remarks to the seniors by singing the opening of Bedingfield’s “Unwritten.” “I am unwritten, can’t read my mind, I’m undefined. I’m just beginning, the pen’s in my hand, ending unplanned.”

News: Coaching Changes from June 11 School Board Meeting Include 4 New Head Coaches

(June 21, 2013) - Briar Woods High School's competitive cheer coach Kristin Develli, who in 2012 led the Falcons to their four consecutive straight AA state titles, will not be at the helm in the fall as former Dominion coach Lucia Curry was approved as the new Briar Woods varsity head coach at the June 11 school board meeting.

Other new varsity coaches according to the board docs:

• Juliet Kenny will be John Champe's head gymnastics coach in the winter. She was an assistant in the Knights first year under Hope Spivey.
• Sema Knonur is Heritage High School's new varsity cheer coach
• Kendall Beebe, a Potomac Falls High School grad, is Park View's new girls volleyball coach.

State Tournament Scorecard: 15 Loudoun Teams Make States Including 5 from Woodgrove

(May 29, 2013) - A total 15 Loudoun teams qualified for state tournaments this spring including five teams from Woodgrove High School. Briar Woods, with three, and Broad Run, with two, were the only other schools with multiple teams moving on past region. Eight of the 13 Loudoun schools had at least one team make States.

Boys Soccer: Region II Bracket - Potomac Falls and Tuscarora Clash in Quarterfinals

(May 28, 2013) - The Region II boys soccer quarterfinals feature a match-up between the top two Dulles District regular-season teams as Potomac Falls is at Tuscarora tonight. Park View and Briar Woods are both on the road with the Patriots at Kettle Run and The Falcons at Western Albemarle.

Park View: Hall of Fame Class for 2013 Announced - Keith Ball, Chris Graham and Renee Lettington

(May 22, 2013) - Park View High School announced that the Patriots Hall of Fame Class for 2013 includes a trio of talented athletes; Keith Ball (1978-83), Chris Graham (1979-83) and Renee Lettington (1992-96).

This class will be formally inducted at the Park View vs Manassas Park football game on September 6, 2013. A reception to honor the inductees, their families and friends will begin at 5 pm in the Hall of Fame foyer.

News: Loudoun County Sheriff's Update on Deadly Confrontation in Sterling that Led to 16-Year-Old's Death

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate a shooting that occurred during the early morning hours of March 17th. Loudoun County Sheriff's Deputies had been dispatched to the home in the 45900 block of Pullman Court for a report of a burglary with shots fired by the homeowner.

At this point in the investigation, it appears Caleb A. Gordley, 16, of Sterling, Virginia, mistakenly entered a neighbor's residence on Pullman Court through a rear, unlocked window. There is no evidence to indicate Caleb entered the home with any further criminal intent. The 16-year-old Park View High School student lived on the same street as the home. Based on interviews, it was learned Caleb had been drinking alcohol with friends that evening.

College Corner: Park View Grad Nykorchuk Off to Hot Sophomore Softball Season Start at Mary Washington

(March 20, 2013) - Park View High School grad Emily Nykorchuk is off to a torrid start for her sophomore softball season at the University of Mary Washington, hitting .469 in 11 games with a .781 slugging percentage.

The catcher has 15 hits, including five doubles, a triple and home run along with 13 RBIs. While at Park View she was a 3-year starter behind the plate.

Her freshman year at Mary Washington she hit played in nine games with a .333 average in nine at-bats.

News: Teenager Identified in Fatal Sterling Shooting as 16-Year-old Park View Junior Who Lived on Same Street

(March 18, 2013) - The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office has identified a Park View High School junior who was fatally shot inside a Sterling, Virginia home as Caleb A. Gordley, a 3-sport varsity athlete at the school. The home where Gordley lost his life was located just two doors down from where he lived.

Gordley played shortstop in the Patriots baseball team according to his BeRecruited.com profile and he played on the Patriots boys varsity basketball team over the winter. The 6-foot Gordley also played on the Patriots varsity football team where he was listed as a wide receiver/corner back

Loudoun County Sheriff's Deputies initially responded to the home in the 45900 block of Pullman Court for a report of a burglary with shots fired by the homeowner. The shooting took place shortly after 2:30 a.m.Sunday when a resident reported that their house alarm was activated. As the homeowner went to investigate, he discovered an unknown male inside their home on the stairwell. The teenager lost his life at the scene.

Shawn Gordley, Caleb's father, said on Twitter Monday evening that: "I was just informed that Caleb & his friend hopped the fence into the wrong backyard. They both thought it was my house. Caleb then climbed through an UNLOKCED window and staggered up the staircase that is identical to mine."

The Washington Post and other  media outlets are reporting that alcohol was a factor in Gordley entering the wrong house.

Gordley loved music and was a promising rapper. His basketball coaches, Mike Koscinski and Jermaine Walker released this statement on the young man Monday evening:

"We are very saddened to lose our friend, teammate, and student-athlete Caleb Gordley. Caleb played three years in the basketball program in addition to playing baseball and football at Park View High School. Everyone loved being around Caleb & felt better when around him. He was the source of positivity, energy and hype for our team. Whether we won or lost, Caleb always gave his best effort and was the teammate everyone loved being around. Caleb's love for music and rapping was a gift that he shared quite often with his family and friends. His music came from his heart and was his passion. That passion carried over to all of his sports as he could be counted on to play with heart, emotion and hustle at all times. Caleb played in eight games this season and suffered a season ending knee injury as he was making a full court play to block a shot. Caleb was adjusting to his role as a contributor off the bench and at the time of the injury was playing his best basketball. Caleb kept the team laughing regardless of the situation and everything was more fun with Caleb around. He will be deeply missed."

College Corner: Park View Grads Drew and Bobby Mason Flying High For Chowan Hawks Baseball

Hampton (March 15, 2013) - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Sports Information Director's Association have made their selections for CIAA Baseball Players of the Week. The Chowan University Hawks swept the list of weekly honors with Josh Catalano earning Player of the Week, Ryan Moore getting the nod as Pitcher of the Week, and Park View High School grad Drew Mason as the Offensive Player of the Week.

Mason is a junior and his brother Bobby is a freshman pitcher on the team who earned the Hawks first win of the season when he worked 3.2 innings of 2-hit ball, giving up one run, in an early February 5-4 win over Coker College. In that win, Drew Mason had three RBIs.

Drew Mason went 3-8 at the dish this week en-route to earning the CIAA Offensive Player of the Week. Mason holds a .371 average on the season, and has collected three doubles. He also collected three of the team's six hits against St. Augustine's on Saturday. Chowan University is located in Murfreesboro, N.C.

Boys Basketball: Potomac Falls Beats Loudoun Valley Again, Takes Dulles District Top Spot

(Feb. 9, 2013) - For the second time in four days, the Potomac Falls High School boys basketball team knocked off Loudoun Valley, this time earning the Dulles District's top seed heading into the playoffs next week.

While Potomac Falls (20-3) edged Loudoun Valley (20-3) on Wednesday, 58-52, it was the Panthers using a big third quarter -- out-scoring the Vikings 20-8 in the that eight minute stretch -- to win handily 64-48.

The Panthers balanced scoring attack included 16 each from sophomore Wanya Allen and freshman Michael Janowksi while senior D'Shawn Shorts scored 12 and junior Deandre Thomas -- whose in-season transfer to Potomac Falls gave the Panthers a boost -- added nine.

The Vikings, heading into the playoffs 2-3 over the last five games after opening the year 18-0, were led by junior Paul Rowley with 16 and senior Jovon Miller scored 12.

Potomac Falls will host Woodgrove, a 61-51 winner Saturday over Park View in the a playoff for the district tournaments final seed, in the quarterfinals Monday at 7:45 p.m.

Basketball: Dulles District Special Playoff Scenarios Could Involve a Triple-Header Saturday at Tuscarora

(Feb. 8, 2013) - After the Dulles District boys and girls basketball regular season wraps up tonight there could be as many as three ties that have to be broken Saturday including ties for first place.

On the boys side, Potomac Falls and Loudoun Valley are tied for first and if both teams win tonight -- or both should fall -- then they will be named co-champions and meet Saturday at Tuscarora at either 4 or 6 p.m. in a playoff to determine the district's top seed (which is super important for regional seeding).

On the girls side, if Loudoun County beats Woodgrove tonight then the two teams would be co-champions and would meet Saturday at Tuscarora at 4 p.m. in a playoff to determine the district's top seed.

Also on the boys side, Park View and Woodgrove are tied for the 8th and final tournament spot. If both remained tied after tonight they would have to meet Saturday at Tuscarora in a playoff to determine the 8th seed. That game would be either 2 or 4 p.m.

Football: Park View Completes $25K Weigh Room Upgrade

Sterling (Jan. 30, 2013) - The Park View High School football program recently completed a $25,000 weight room upgrade. It is the first significant remodel of the Patriots weight room in many years.

Gymnastics: Broad Run and Briar Woods Each Take Home Titles at Glory Days Grill/Park View Invitational

(Jan. 22, 2013) - The area's longest-running high school athletic event, The Glory Days Grill/Park View Gymnastics Invitational was held earlier this month and the 33rd edition was dominated by local teams as Broad Run, Woodgrove and Loudoun Valley finished 1-2-3 in the Blue Division and Briar Woods and Loudoun County went 1-2 i the Red Division.

Broad Run scored a meet-best 98.375 points with Kerry Stolcenberg (34.05) and Morgan Clear (32.575) finishing 1-2 in the All Around. Briar Woods scored 97.25 to just edge Loudoun County at 97.175. The Falcons were led by Sara Connors (34.8), winner in the All Around, and the Raiders were paced by All Around runner-up Hannah Powell (34.425). Potomac Falls' Abbey Tsao was third in the Red Division All Around with a 34.125.

Wrestling: Woodgrove Earns First Title in Program History with Win at Sterling Lions McGowen Invitational

(Dec. 19, 2012) - The Woodgrove High School wrestling team earned their first tournament title in the program's history by winning the Sterling Lions McGowen Invitational Wrestling Tournament this past weekend at Park View.

Wolverine coach Scott Fortney said it was "a well balanced effort with 10 of the 12 wrestlers who participated in the top four of the 9-team tournament."

The Wolverines' record now stands at 8-5 after defeating Broad Run 52-29, John Champe 54-15 and losing a close match to Brentville District 36-42 last Thursday at John Champe.

Boys Lacrosse: Park View Picks Pro Matthew Casey to Take Over Program

Sterling (Nov. 28, 2012) - Matthew Casey has been named the new varsity boys lacrosse coach at Park View High School.

Casey is in his first year at Sterling Middle School as a special education teacher and Patriot athletic director Jason Testerman said that Casey "is excited to make his mark in the Sterling Cluster Schools."

The new coach is a graduate of Ithaca College, where he was an All-American lacrosse player and standout performer. After his collegiate career, Matthew was drafted as the 21st overall pick in the Major League Lacrosse Expansion Draft by the Los Angeles Riptide in 2007, where he collected 14 goals, 3 assists, and 44 groundballs as a rookie.

Football: Local Players Square Off Against Each Other in NCAA Division II Playoffs This Weekend

(Nov. 14, 2012) - Four Loudoun athletes will take the field this Saturday -- three as key defensive players and one as an offensive starter -- in the NCAA Division II playoffs when Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) hosts Shepherd University.

Suiting up for IUP will be linebackers Joe Walter (Broad Run High School/Ashburn) and Alex Berdahl (Bishop O'Connell/Ashburn) and offensive right guard Mike Charmo (Loudoun Valley/Hamilton), and for Shepherd will be defensive linemen Robert Hayes (Park View/Sterling).

(Nov. 14, 2012) - Park View High School grad Robert Hayes, a junior at Shepherd University, was one of six WVIAC student-athletes honored as Capital One Academic All-District 1 first-team selections this week. In addition the 6-foot-2, DT was named first team defense.

Basketball: Park View, ELBL to Host Author Dave Ungrady on Nov. 17

(Nov. 12, 2012) - The Park View High School basketball program and Eastern Loudoun Basketball League are co-hosting author and journalist Dave Ungrady on Nov. 17, who will speak about the legacy of former Maryland basketball star Len Bias.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with Ungrady speaking at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults with children free. There will be a book signing for $20 with $5 of that fee given back to the ELBL.

Ungrady, a resident of Clarke's Gap near Leesburg, will talk about the importance of decision making as part of he Born Ready Project, a program that teaches decision making and resilience to middle school through college students.
