Boys Basketball: Lucketts A.J. Metz Accepts Preferred Walk-on Role at Maryland

(June 29, 2013) - Lucketts native A.J. Metz, who recently graduated from the Bullis School has signed as a preferred walk-on with the University of Maryland men's basketball program.

Metz, with a 3.85 GPA, wants to become an orthopedic surgeon. He was a charter member of the original Loudoun Triple Threat travel basketball team which started the LTT AAU basketball program team. Metz played all seven years for LTT.

Football: Briar Woods SO WR/Kick Returner Polk Picks up Maryland Offer

(Feb. 18, 2013) - The recruiting of Briar Woods High School sophomore wide receiver/kick returner Brandon Polk is picking up as the Falcon picked up a Big Ten offer last week from the University of Maryland (which moves from the ACC to Big Ten in 2014). Just a week earlier, Polk, who helped the Falcons to a third straight VHSL Division 4 state football title in the fall, picked up his first college offer, from the ACC's Virginia Tech.

Basketball: Park View, ELBL to Host Author Dave Ungrady on Nov. 17

(Nov. 12, 2012) - The Park View High School basketball program and Eastern Loudoun Basketball League are co-hosting author and journalist Dave Ungrady on Nov. 17, who will speak about the legacy of former Maryland basketball star Len Bias.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with Ungrady speaking at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults with children free. There will be a book signing for $20 with $5 of that fee given back to the ELBL.

Ungrady, a resident of Clarke's Gap near Leesburg, will talk about the importance of decision making as part of he Born Ready Project, a program that teaches decision making and resilience to middle school through college students.

Girls Volleyball: Heritage Celebrates Hrebenach Signing with Maryland; 2 Others to Finalize Choice Soon - Kamis (Washington and Lee) and Yokoyama (Johns Hopkins)

(Nov. 18, 2011) - Heritage High School celebrated on Wednesday the college signings of one of its three girls volleyball players headed to the college ranks with Kelsey Hrebenach officially headed to the University of Maryland; Two other players are expected to join her on the court in college with Christina Kamis committed to Washington and Lee University; and Stephanie Yokoyama committed to Johns Hopkins University.

Volleyball: Three Loudoun Players Make PrepVolleyball.com's Top 100 List for Class of 2012

(Sept. 27, 2011) - Three Loudoun volleyball players -- Heritage's Kelsey Hrebenach, Stone Bridge's Alex Heyn and Madeira School's Breanna Atkinson -- have made the PrepVolleyball.com's top 100 in their Senior Aces listing of the top recruits from the Class of 2012.

Heritage's Hrebenach is listed at No. 47. The 6-foot-1 athlete will play next year at Maryland.

At No. 68 is Heyn, out this season for Stone Bridge after shoulder surgery, the 6-foot-4 middle will play at The Ohio State.

Breanna Atkinson, who lives in Loudoun but plays at Madeira School in McLean, comes in at No. 89. She will play next year at Duke.

College SIgning: Heritage Holds Ceremony for Six Athletes Headed to College Ranks

Leesburg (May 26, 2011) - Heritage High School held a signing ceremony on Tuesday to celebrate six athletes headed to the college ranks.

Those honored at the ceremony included: Brittany Burkhard – University of Maryland – Cheerleading; Shane Carrera – Bowdoin College – Baseball; Erika Grabbi – Princeton University – Lacrosse; Tyler McCullock – Eastern Mennonite University- Baseball; Troy Newcomer – Christopher Newport University – Track; and Damon Rosenburg – Denison University – Swimming.

Volleyball: Heritage Junior Kelsey Hrebenach Makes Early Commitment to Play at Maryland Starting in 2012

(Sept. 3, 2010) - Heritage High School's Kelsey Hrebenach hasn't officially started her junior year but the middle blocker already has her college plans in order as she verbally committed to play at the University of Maryland starting in 2012.

Hrebenach becomes the third member of the Virginia Elite 16s club team to commit including Alex Heyn of Stone Bridge (Ohio State) and Breanna Atkinson of The Madeira School (Duke).

Football: Boston College Becomes the Sixth NCAA Division I School to Offer Stone Bridge Standout Burns

(Mar. 18, 2010) - Stone Bridge High School 6-foot-7 defensive linemen picked up his sixth NCAA Division I offer as Boston College offered the junior this week.
