(June 21, 2013) - Meghan Puckli, a former Loudoun County High School and Christopher Newport University girls volleyball standout, has taken the reigns of the Tuscarora program. Puckli had been an assistant in the Huskies program under Marsha Hermes who left in the offseason to take over at Briar Woods.
In other coaching news from the May 28 school board meeting, Tuscarora promoted Libby Messina from assistant gymnastics coach to head coach.

News: Coaching Changes from June 11 School Board Meeting Include 4 New Head Coaches
(June 21, 2013) - Briar Woods High School's competitive cheer coach Kristin Develli, who in 2012 led the Falcons to their four consecutive straight AA state titles, will not be at the helm in the fall as former Dominion coach Lucia Curry was approved as the new Briar Woods varsity head coach at the June 11 school board meeting.

- Juliet Kenny will be John Champe's head gymnastics coach in the winter. She was an assistant in the Knights first year under Hope Spivey.
- Sema Knonur is Heritage High School's new varsity cheer coach
- Kendall Beebe, a Potomac Falls High School grad, is Park View's new girls volleyball coach.

Cheers Sports and Viva Loudoun 2012 Falls Sports "Fan Favorites"
(June 19, 2013) - For the first time this year Cheers Sports and Viva Loudoun teamed up to pick an All Loudoun team for every varsity sport played in the 13 public high schools in Loudoun County. The competition was fierce to make the teams so we wanted the fans input to honor those athletes that just missed the All Loudoun cut or those that showed team spirit and hard work that often gets overlooked when it comes to honors.
After voting that saw more than 300 nominations, here are the "Fan Favorites" for Fall 2012. Athletes selected will be invited to a photo shoot this Sunday, June 23 at 12:15 p.m. at Replay Sports in Ashburn. RSVP and full details here.

Girls Volleyball: Cheers Sports and Viva Loudoun 2012-13 All-Loudoun Team
(May 12, 2013) - Cheers Sports and Viva Loudoun have teamed up to selected their first ever All-Loudoun selections ... the top varsity athletes across the county's 13 public high schools for the 2012-13 school year.
We kicked off the selections with the fall sports season boys cross country, girls cross country and golf earlier and now we present the girls volleyball selections.

Girls Volleyball: Heritage Hires Allison Smith as New Varsity Coach

Smith is a graduate of Belmont Abbey College, where she was a scholarship member of the volleyball team and officer for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. In 2007 she led her conference for service aces, ranking 31st nationally.

Girls Volleyball: Loudoun Valley SR Outside Hitter Tori Stewart Commits to North Carolina Wesleyan
Stewart was a dominant force for Loudoun Valley the past two years as a middle blocker and outside hitter.
Stewart's club volleyball coach Allison Smith: "Tori’s presence at Loudoun Valley will certainly be missed, but she will be a phenomenal asset to NC-Wesleyan."
Girls Volleyball: Woodgrove SR Kristen Haislip to Play at D3 Babson College Next Year
(May 7, 2013) - Woodgrove High School senior Kristen Haislip will play women's volleyball next year at NCAA Division III Babson College in Wellesley, Mass.
Babson, coached by Eric Neely, went 22-8 overall in the fall. The Beavers play in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference.
Haislip can play anywhere on the court from libero to setter to outside hitter. Haislip played three years of varsity volleyball in high school and is graduating a year early.

Girls Volleyball: Musical Coaches Continues as Tuscarora's Hermes Shifts to Briar Woods

Girls Volleyball: Loudoun County SR Quinn O'Connell to Play at U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
(April 5, 2013) - Loudoun County High School senior Quinn O'Connell has committed to play volleyball next year for the NCAA Division III United States Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball program in Kings Point, N.Y.
O'Connell is a 4-year member of the volleyball program and was a key part of the Raiders' 5th state title in 6 years in 2012. She is also the third member of the senior class for the Raiders volleyball team that will continue her career next year at the collegiate level.
Raider athletic director Ken Wright: "Congratulations to Quinn and her family....many hours of hard work in the classroom and on the court were required to achieve this goal."

College Corner: Broad Run Grad Scudder Earns Academic Ivy League Honors at Dartmouth

Hanover, N.H. (March 13, 2013) - Broad Run High School grad and Dartmouth College government major Elisa Scudder was named Academic All-Ivy League after the fall women's volleyball season. The 6-foot-2 middle blocker led Big Green (2-22 record) in blocks with 64 total. She played in 21 matches with 161 kills and a .294 hitting percentage. She also had 18 service aces and 75 digs on the season.
Scudder now has 485 career kills at Dartmouth and 209 total blocks.

Girls Volleyball: 2012 VHSCA All-State Selections; Loudoun County's Phillips' Named AA Player of the Year
(March 1, 2013) - Loudoun County High School junior Maggie Phillips, who led the Raiders to their fifth AA state title in six seasons in the fall, has been named the 2012 AA girls volleyball State Player of the Year by the Virginia High School Coaches Association.
Loudoun County's Jenica Brown was named Coach of the Year for AA.

Girls Volleyball: Veteran Heritage Coach Carmel Keilty Takes Over Woodgrove Program

Keilty, entering her 25th year as a head coach, is now just 15 wins away from career win No. 400, having hit the No. 350 milestone in 2011. She is among the top five in the state among active girls volleyball coaches in career wins. She takes over for Faisal Hallaj who started the Wolverine program when the school opened in 2010-11.
"Coach Keilty strives in helping young women develop character, teamwork, integrity and a strong sense of one’s self. She has coached 20 girls who have continued playing volleyball at the college level," said Woodgrove athletic director Rusty Lowery in a release. "Not only does Coach Keilty bring a strong coaching background but her work ethic, relationship skills and commitment to students are second to none. The Woodgrove Athletic Department is very excited about having such a quality person and coach as a part of its’ staff."
Keitly will waste no time getting to know the Woodgrove program and community as a volleyball player interest meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 28 at 12:05 pm. in the main gym and there will be a parent meeting on Tuesday, March 5 at 7 p.m at Woodgrove High School.

Girls Volleyball: Loudoun County 6-foot-3 Taylor Borup is First Freshman in School History to Become College Commit with Verbal to UNC Chapel Hill

Borup, a member of the Raiders AA state championship team in the fall, becomes the first freshman in Loudoun County's nearly 60-year history to have an offer extend and to accept in any sport, according to Raider athletic director Ken Wright.
The middle hitter/outside hitter currently plays club volleyball for the NVVA-15 ICE.
Wright: "A native of North Carolina, Taylor has always dreamed of being a Tar Heel, and quickly accepted the offer.
We look forward to many more championships with Taylor and are proud she will be a Tar Heel."
