Girls Volleyball: Loudoun County's Taylor Borup and Briar Woods' Lauren Twitty Make JVA National Watch List

(May 20, 2013) - The Junior Volleyball Association 2013 Watch List includes just 26 girls nationally for the age 15s group and two of them are freshman in Loudoun -- Briar Woods High School's Lauren Twitty and Loudoun County's Taylor Borup.

Borup plays for the Northern Virginia Volleyball Association and is already a verbal commitment to play in college at the University of North Carolina. Twitty is a 6-foot-1 outside hitter that plays for Virginia Elite.

Girls Volleyball: Loudoun County SR Quinn O'Connell to Play at U.S. Merchant Marine Academy

(April 5, 2013) - Loudoun County High School senior Quinn O'Connell has committed to play volleyball next year for the NCAA Division III United States Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball program in Kings Point, N.Y.

O'Connell is a 4-year member of the volleyball program and was a key part of the Raiders' 5th state title in 6 years in 2012. She is also the third member of the senior class for the Raiders volleyball team that will continue her career next year at the collegiate level.

Raider athletic director Ken Wright: "Congratulations to Quinn and her family....many hours of hard work in the classroom and on the court were required to achieve this goal."

 

College Corner: Dominion Grad Reed Receives ODAC/StellarOne Fall Sportsmanship Award

(March 19, 2013) - Dominion High School grad Ally Reed, a senior volleyball player at Hollins, has made the Old Dominion Athletic Conference 2012 StellarOne Sportsmanship Team for fall 2012.

This marks the fourth year the league has recognized these fine student-athletes for their excellence in sportsmanship.

Girls Volleyball: 2012 VHSCA All-State Selections; Loudoun County's Phillips' Named AA Player of the Year

(March 1, 2013) - Loudoun County High School junior Maggie Phillips, who led the Raiders to their fifth AA state title in six seasons in the fall, has been named the 2012 AA girls volleyball State Player of the Year by the Virginia High School Coaches Association.

Loudoun County's Jenica Brown was named Coach of the Year for AA.

Loudoun Valley: Vikings Hold Ceremony for Five Athletes Headed to College Level

(Feb. 27, 2013) - Loudoun Valley High School celebrated this week the college choices of five seniors who will play at the next level:

• Jodyn Bauman (Women's Soccer) Ferrum College in Va.
• Anthony Flores (Men's Soccer) York College of Pa.
• Andrea Garcia (Women's Soccer) Pfeiffer University in N.C.
• Mark Shayka (Men's Volleyball) Lees-McRae College in N.C.

Girls Volleyball: Loudoun County 6-foot-3 Taylor Borup is First Freshman in School History to Become College Commit with Verbal to UNC Chapel Hill

Though just a freshman in the fall, the 6-3 Borup
was already playing way over the net.

Leesburg (Feb. 26, 2013) - Loudoun County High School 6-foot-3 freshman girls volleyball player Taylor Borup has accepted a verbal offer to play volleyball at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill starting in 2016.

Borup, a member of the Raiders AA state championship team in the fall, becomes the first freshman in Loudoun County's nearly 60-year history to have an offer extend and to accept in any sport, according to Raider athletic director Ken Wright.

The middle hitter/outside hitter  currently plays club volleyball for the NVVA-15 ICE. 

Wright: "A native of North Carolina, Taylor has always dreamed of being a Tar Heel, and quickly accepted the offer. We look forward to many more championships with Taylor and are proud she will be a Tar Heel."

Middleburg (Dec. 30, 2012) - Eight Foxcroft athletes from three sports have received All-Delaney Athletic Conference honors for their outstanding performance in fall competition.

Field hockey topped the list as five members of the state tournament finalist Foxcroft team received first-team All-DAC honors and another player received second-team mention.

Volleyball and cross country each had one athlete selected for all-DAC honors.

(Nov. 29, 2012) - Flint Hill senior Haley McClure, an Ashburn native who previously played at Stone Bridge High School, has committed to play volleyball next year at NCAA Division I Morgan State according to her Northern Virginia Volleyball Association club team.

Flint Hill won the City Championship this year -- annual title match played between WCAC and ISL champions -- and then won the VISAA state title to finish 30-2.

Girls Volleyball: Heritage SR Dariel Montanez to Play at Edinboro University in PA

(Nov. 29, 2012) - Heritage High School senior Dariel Montanez will play volleyball next year at NCAA Division II Edinboro University in Pennsylvania. Montanez had 130 kills and 206 digs this fall for the Pride.

The Fighting Scots program play in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference where they went 7-12 this fall with an overall mark of 11-22. The team is coached by Missy Soboleski.

Leesburg (Nov. 25, 2012) - The Leesburg Christian School (LCS) Lady Lions varsity volleyball team captured the program's first ever ODACS (Old Dominion Association of Christian Schools) state title recently and finished with a school-record 24-1 overall record, including 14-1 in conference. The squad then went on to finish sixth at a national tournament.

Girls Volleyball: One for the Thumb! Loudoun County Rallies for 5th AA State Title in Six Years

Richmond (Nov. 19, 2012) - The Loudoun County High School girls volleyball team started out fast Saturday in the VHSL AA state title match at VCU, but then found themselves down 2-1 to Hidden Valley, and trailing big in the 4th set, 16-10. 

With their dream of a state championship fading away, the Raiders charged back to win the 4th and 5th sets to take the match 25-22, 20-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-11. The Raiders rally brought home the program's 5th championship in six years, and ties the VHSL record of most girls volleyball titles with Cave Spring at five. 

Loudoun County won their 18th consecutive match and finished their season at 28-1 on the season. 

Girls Volleyball: Loudoun County, Stone Bridge Sweep to State Semifinals

(Nov. 14, 2012) - Both the Loudoun County and Stone Bridge high school girls volleyball teams swept to VHSL state quarterfinal victories Tuesday night. The Raiders beat New Kent, 25-12, 25-16, 25-17 to advance to the AA state semifinals for the 7th straight year where they will face E.C. Glass on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at VCU in Richmond. The Bulldogs beat Albemarle 25-16, 25-16, 25-14 to advance to the AAA state semifinals for the third straight year where they will face Atlee on Thursday at 5 p.m. at VCU in Richmond.

Loudoun County 2 Wins Away from 5th AA State Title in Six Years
Loudoun County jumped out fast and cruised to a 25-12, 25-16, 25-17 victory over New Kent High School in the VHSL AA State Quarterfinals. In front of a packed crowd and their last home match of 2012, the Raider punched their ticket to the semifinals at the VCU Seigel Center in Richmond, Va for the 7th consecutive season.

Loudoun County won their 16th consecutive match and improved to 26-1 on the season. The Lady

The Lady Raiders return to action this Friday as they head to VCU for the AA State Semifinal vs. EC Glass at 6:30 p.m. EC Glass took down defending state champion Cave Spring (25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20). Cave Spring is the only team to beat Loudoun County in state play in the last seven years.

Stone Bridge Back to AAA Final Four for Third Straight Year
Stone Bridge junior Libby Haslett had a big smile on her face after the Bulldogs swept Albemarle Tuesday in the AAA girls volleyball state quarterfinals, 25-16, 25-16, 25-14. Haslett could have been forgiven if she had a big smile during the match as well as Albemarle kept a close on Stone Bridge senior Ryan Ackermann on the outside and left Haslett virtually unblocked in the middle.

Girls Volleyball: Undefeated Belmont Ridge Crowned LYV Select Champs

(Nov. 14, 2012) - The Belmont Ridge Middle school select girls volleyball team went undefeated in match play this season and beat the Simpson select team in three sets over the weekend to take the league championship.

Congratulations to the following members of the Belmont Ridge Select Volleyball Team: Lauren Ashwell, Alexandra Fuerst, Ryley Gill, Soraya Hayes, Lizzie Hopkins, Vanessa Marinelli, Brooke McLaughlin, Ashley Schaberg, Haley Schneider, and Gabbie Scudder. Girls Volleyball: Loudoun County JR Maggie Phillips Named Region II Player of the Year; Raiders Brown Takes Coaching Honors

(Nov. 13, 2012) - Loudoun County High School junior Maggie Phillips has been named the Region II girls volleyball Player of the Year in a vote of coaches, becoming the fourth straight Raider to take the honor and fifth in six years.

Loudoun County coach Jenica Brown, who led the Raiders to their seventh straight Region II title on Saturday and a 25-1 record going into tonight's VHSL AA state quarterfinal against New Kent (7 p.m. in Leesburg), has been named the Coach of the Year for the third straight time and fourth time since 2006. Brown's brother, Jarod, a Raider assistant coach during the long run, also took the honors in 2009 when he was acting head coach.
