Girls Lacrosse: Freedom Rising JR Amber Harlow Playing in 2013 Brine National Lacrosse Classic

(June 29, 2013) - Amber Harlow, daughter of Chris and Doris Harlow, a rising Junior at Freedom High School (South Riding) has been named as a 2013 Brine National High School All-American and has been selected to represent the Washington DC Region at the 2013 Brine National Lacrosse Classic to be held in Boyds, Maryland June 30-July 3, 2013.

News: Athletic Revolution Revving Up with Summer Camps and Fall Leagues

(May 22, 2013) - The Athletic Revolution in Ashburn continues, quite literally, with upcoming summer camps and fall leagues at the area's newest indoor facility, the 6,000-square-foot facility of Athletic Revolution which opened just about six months ago.

Athletic Revolution was first founded in Louisville, KY, in 2008  and is a franchisor for coaches who want to train kids from ages 6-18 in overall fitness. Athletic Revolution in Ashburn is owned and operated by Liam and Brandee Daly.

Liam Daly played lacrosse and soccer and coached lacrosse in college. This summer the facility, with two turf fields, one 90 feet by 30 feet and the other 70 by 30, is offering football skills camps (June 10-14, July 15-19, August 5-9), soccer skills camps (June 17-21, July 22-26, Aug. 12-16), lacrosse skills camps (June 24-28, July 29-Aug. 2) and a multisport camp (Aug. 12-16).

Lacrosse: Stone Bridge's Dylan Maltz Named to Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic South Roster

(May 22, 2013) - Under Armour and Corrigan Sports Enterprises, Inc. announced Wednesday the rosters for the 2013 Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic. Eighty-eight of the nation’s top boys and girls high school seniors have been selected to the sport’s highest honor and will play in the eighth annual Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic on Saturday, July 6 at Towson University’s Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, MD.

Lacrosse: Loudoun Teams Sweep Into Sectional Semifinals

(May 21, 2013) - Last year the AA Northern Sectional finals was an all-Loudoun affair and this year is shaping up to be a repeat as four local teams won first round games Monday night to advance to the sectional semifinals Wednesday.

The Woodgrove boys went on the road for a 15-4 win at Culpeper and the Tuscarora girls made the bus trip to Fauquier worth their it with a 23-16 victory. Here at home, a pair of all-Dulles District first games saw the home teams prevail with the Dominion boys tripling up on Briar Woods, 15-5, and the Loudoun Valley girls doubling Loudoun County, 20-10.

The Woodgrove boys and Tuscarora girls now have to face the Dulles District regular-season and tournament champions in the semifinals: the Loudoun County boys and Woodgrove girls. The winner of those semifinals will clinch a state bid and advance to the sectional finals.

The Dominion boys will be on the road at Fauquier and the Loudoun Valley girls will be at Kettle Run in the other semifinals.

Boys Lax: Woodgrove 15, Culpeper 4
Wolverine fans were "Loving" their team's play Monday with Jack Loving scoring six goals with three assists in the runaway. Jeremy Kendall dished out five assists and Ryan Reynolds had nine saves in goal.

Other goals from Woodgrove came from: Kyle Reilly (2), Sam Weber (2), Conner Loving (1), Kellen McCarthy (1), Matt Sears (1) and Trey Rustand (1). Assists were recorded by: Kellen McCarthy (1) and Kyle Reilly (1).

Girls Lax: Loudoun Valley 20, Loudoun County 10
It was just 5-3 at the half before the Vikings exploded for 15 second-half goals to advance to the sectional semifinals. Junior Corley Simons led the way with six goals for Valley while a host of players had hat tricks including senior Megan Williamson, sophomore Maya Ebrahimnejad, junior Ashlyn DiLoreto and junior Courtney Schollian.

Sophomore Haley Shuford had 12 saves in goal for the Vikes.

A key to the strong second half was the draw control by Simons and Ebrahimnejad's dominance on ground balls.

Also scoring for Valley were junior Sarah Ashworth and sophomore Lily Hamilton. Assists were recorded by Ashworth (2), Williamson (1), and Ebrahimnejad (1).

Lacrosse: AA Northern Sectional Starts Tonight

(May 20, 2013) - The AA Northern Sectional boys and girls lacrosse tournament starts tonight and some of the match-ups may look familiar to Dulles District fans as the Dominion High School boys host Briar Woods and the Loudoun Valley girls host Loudoun County.

In the other two first round games, the Woodgrove boys are at Culpeper and the Tuscarora girls are at Fauquier. On the boys side, Loudoun County and Fauquier have byes and on the girls side, Woodgrove and Kettle Run have byes.

Boys Lacrosse: Loudoun County SR Erik Larson to Play at Mercy College

Leesburg (March 5, 2013)- Loudoun County High School senior midfielder/attack Erik Larson has committed to Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York.

The Mavericks are part of the East Coast Conference of NCAA Division II. Led by head coach Jordan Devine, Mercy currently is 3-0 on the season and has a strong program in Men's Lacrosse.

Boys Lacrosse: Woodgrove SR Kellen McCarthy Looking Forward to Playing for Up and Coming Marymount but First Comes the Spring Season

(Feb. 28, 2013) - Woodgrove High School senior attackman Kellen McCarthy is fired up about the opportunity to play in the fall for Marymount University men's lacrosse coach Jon Reynolds in a program that McCarthy calls "an up and coming kind of a sleeper program”. First, however, McCarthy will concentrate on helping return the Wolverines to the VHSL state tournament for the third straight year as one of three senior captains along with defenseman Tucker Coil and midfielder Sam Weber.

Boys Lacrosse: Middleburg Academy's SR Daniel Mangle Commits to York College of PA and JR Dan Koorbusch Verbals to Jacksonville University

(Feb. 8, 2013) - Middleburg Academy boys lacrosse had good college news this week as senior Daniel Mangle has committed to play next year at York College of Pennsylvania and junior Dan Koorbusch has given a verbal commitment to play starting in 2014-15 at Jacksonville University.

Both play for the NoVa West Lacrosse Elite high school team with Mangle a midfield/attack and Koorbusch a 6-foot-2 defender.

Woodgrove: 7 Football, Lacrosse Athletes to Hold Signing Day Wednesday

(Feb. 5, 2013) - In just it's third year since opening in Purcellville, Woodgrove High School has one of the largest class of college-bound athletes in Loudoun with 20 already committed and seven Wolverines will be featured at signing ceremony on Wednesday in the school's cafeteria at 4 p.m.

The following football and lacrosse athletes will be featured:

Last week Woodgrove held a signing ceremony for eight girls soccer players headed for the college ranks. Woodgrove's 20 committed athletes leads Stone Bridge (17) for most in Loudoun to date.

Boys Lacrosse: Dominion SR Cody Farmer to Play at Stevenson University

Sterling (Dec. 30, 2012) - Dominion High School senior Cody Farmer has committed to play men's lacrosse next year at NCAA Division III Stevenson University in Maryland. Farmer will join his older brother Troy, a freshman at Stevenson, on the Mustangs roster.

Farmer helped Dominion make its first ever VHSL state tournament appearance in 2012 as a junior. Farmer's club team is Madlax.

Ashburn (Dec. 26, 2012) - Broad Run High School held a college signing on December 11th, 2012 for one of its most talented players to come through the Spartan girls lacrosse program in years. Senior Heidi Smith has committed to play NCAA Division I lacrosse for the University of Louisville Cardinals in Kentucky.

Smith has started for the Spartans since the day she stepped on the lacrosse field at the Broad Run campus. As a freshman she started at lower defense and as her career blossomed she became the focal point of the team as its starting center of the past several years.

In 2012, Smith led the Spartans back into the Regional’s for the first time since 2009. She led the team with 72 goals and 20 assists. Her game was not just on the offensive end.

Her coach Sean Duritsa said: “She is the best all around player in the county, region, and beyond. There is nothing on the lacrosse field that she cannot do! She is equally talented on offense as on defense, she does everything great. Heidi is a true leader on and off the field.”

Lacrosse: Heritage Seeks Girls, Boys Coaches

Girls Lacrosse: Woodgrove Holds D1 Signing Celebration for Olivia Becker (Liberty) and Morgan Miller (Delaware)

Purcellville (Dec. 6, 2012) - Woodgrove High School held a signing reception on Wednesday, Dec. 5 to recognize two of the program's finest in girls lacrosse, Olivia Becker (Liberty) and Morgan Miller (Delaware), who will play in college next year. This was Woodgrove’s first official signing of girls’ lacrosse players to NCAA Division I teams.

Boys Lacrosse: Park View Picks Pro Matthew Casey to Take Over Program

Sterling (Nov. 28, 2012) - Matthew Casey has been named the new varsity boys lacrosse coach at Park View High School.

Casey is in his first year at Sterling Middle School as a special education teacher and Patriot athletic director Jason Testerman said that Casey "is excited to make his mark in the Sterling Cluster Schools."

The new coach is a graduate of Ithaca College, where he was an All-American lacrosse player and standout performer. After his collegiate career, Matthew was drafted as the 21st overall pick in the Major League Lacrosse Expansion Draft by the Los Angeles Riptide in 2007, where he collected 14 goals, 3 assists, and 44 groundballs as a rookie.

(Oct. 9, 2012) - The Viva Loudoun College Choice Chart for the Class of 2013 has quietly been growing over the last week with the addition of four soccer players (Corinne Grioux (Stone Bridge/William and Mary), Kylie Shutz (Potomac Falls/George Mason), Connor Smith (Gonzaga/Lehigh) and Miles Khalil Davis (Tuscarora/St. Louis) as well as one lacrosse player Morgan Miller (Woodgrove/Delaware). There are now 44 athletes on the Class of 2013 charts.
