News: Coaching Changes from June 11 School Board Meeting Include 4 New Head Coaches

(June 21, 2013) - Briar Woods High School's competitive cheer coach Kristin Develli, who in 2012 led the Falcons to their four consecutive straight AA state titles, will not be at the helm in the fall as former Dominion coach Lucia Curry was approved as the new Briar Woods varsity head coach at the June 11 school board meeting.

Other new varsity coaches according to the board docs:
  • Juliet Kenny will be John Champe's head gymnastics coach in the winter. She was an assistant in the Knights first year under Hope Spivey.
  • Sema Knonur is Heritage High School's new varsity cheer coach
  • Kendall Beebe, a Potomac Falls High School grad, is Park View's new girls volleyball coach.

Baseball: Aldie Senators Valley Baseball League Team Opens Tonight at John Champe High School

Aldie (May 31, 2013) - The Aldie Senators open their regular Valley Baseball League season tonight, Friday, May 31 against the Front Royal Cardinals at John Champe High School. Game time is 7:30 p.m. and the gates will open at 7.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and for children 12 and under. Military personnel and veterans are admitted free. Season passes are also available and can be purchased at the gate or via the Senators website at www.aldiesenators.com.

Little League players that wear their team jerseys at any Tuesday or Wednesday night home games during the season are also admitted free.

The Senators this season will feature a roster with some players that have local connections including: Matt Malcane (OF, Seton Hill/Freedom High School), J.J. Sarty (SS, William & Mary/Woodgrove) and Kyle McCormack (P, Frostburg State/Broad Run). Matthew Reed (C, Clemson/Woodgrove) was potentially playing but is fighting an injury.

John Champe: 1st Year Knights Will Not Field Varsity Baseball or Boys Lacrosse this Spring

Aldie (March 14, 2013) - First-year John Champe High School will not be fielding a varsity baseball or varsity boys lacrosse team this spring. Also George Mason High School, which plays in the Dulles District for lacrosse, has dropped it varsity boys program this spring.

Wrestling: Champe Hosts Region II Meet Friday-Saturday

(Feb. 7, 2013) - More than 200 wrestlers from Region II will compete at John Champe High School in Aldie on Friday and Saturday for a shot at the AA state meet. Action starts Friday at 2 p.m. with the final slated for 5 p.m. on Saturday.

In between there will more than 400 bouts on the mats. Here are the brackets.

Fauquier is the defending Region II champion with 220.5 points in 2012, some 24 points better than runner-up Millbrook.

Baseball: Aldie Senators to Play Home Games at Champe High School

Aldie (Dec. 29, 2012) - Beginning with the 2013 Valley Baseball League season, the Aldie Senators (formerly known as the Haymarket Senators) will play all of their home games at John Champe High School.

The Aldie Senators will open their 2013 VBL season at home against the Front Royal Cardinals on May 31, 2013. The Senators previously played their home games at Battlefield High School.

Wrestling: Woodgrove Earns First Title in Program History with Win at Sterling Lions McGowen Invitational

(Dec. 19, 2012) - The Woodgrove High School wrestling team earned their first tournament title in the program's history by winning the Sterling Lions McGowen Invitational Wrestling Tournament this past weekend at Park View.

Wolverine coach Scott Fortney said it was "a well balanced effort with 10 of the 12 wrestlers who participated in the top four of the 9-team tournament."

The Wolverines' record now stands at 8-5 after defeating Broad Run 52-29, John Champe 54-15 and losing a close match to Brentville District 36-42 last Thursday at John Champe.

(Nov. 29, 2012) - Dominion High School boys basketball opened the season 2-0 with a win Wednesday, Heritage girls nipped Freedom in non-district play and Champe girls were competitive in their first ever varsity game, a loss to Patriot:

Football: Champe to Honor Veterans on Military Appreciation Night Nov. 2

(Oct. 24, 2012) - John Champe High School will honor veterans at Military Appreciation Night on the final home game, Nov. 2 when they host Madison County.

All Veterans in attendance will be recognized on the field before the game. Every fan in attendance will be giving a small American flag at the gate to wave during the ceremony.

Champe is working with the Virginia Wounded Warrior program and a portion of the gate from the game will be donated to the organization.

Golf: Milestone! Champe Secures First Victory for New School in Any Sport!

(Aug. 23, 2012) - The John Champe High School golf team made history this week when the Knights became the first team in the new school's "history" to win an athletic contest with a 190-193 win over Park View at Algonkian golf course.

Champe opens on Monday in Aldie, becoming Loudoun's 13th public high school and 8th to open since 2000.

Gymnastics: Champe High School's Spivey Lived the Olympics Experience

(July 31, 2012) - Many in Loudoun have been following the gymnastics action at the Olympics but few can claim to have lived the Olympic dream like Champ High School's head gymnastics coach Hope Spivey, who was a member of the U.S. squad at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.

Spivey, who recently moved to the area, has been hired as Champe's first ever gymnastics coach for the school which opens in less than a month in Aldie, becoming Loudoun's 13th public high school.  Spivey won the bronze medal in All Around at the 1985 U.S. championships and helped the U.S. take the gold medal at the 1987 Pan-American games.

News: Champe High School Adds Boys Soccer, Girls Lacrosse Head Coaches

Aldie (July 5, 2012) - John Champe High School, opening in August, has named Andres Vera as the school's first head boys soccer coach and Kathy Gonzalez as the school's first head girls lacrosse coach. Both were approved by the Loudoun County School Board at the June 26 meeting.

News: Champe Names Freedom's Brandon Sanford as First Boys Track Coach; Former U.S. Olympian Hope Spivey is Gymnastics Coach

Aldie (May 23, 2012) - Champe High School, which opens in the fall, has named Freedom boys track and field coach Brandon Sanford as the Knights first coach. The school also announced former U.S. Olympian Hope Spivey as the varsity gymnastics coach.

News: VHSL Revises Proposed Model for 2013-15 with Freedom Moving Down, New High School Champe Moving Up in Classifications

(May 14, 2012) - The Virginia High School League released its latest revised draft model for 2013-25 with two Loudoun schools affected with expected student population shifts when John Champe High School opens in Aldie in the fall.

Champe, classified as 2A in the new proposed six levels of classification, is now up to 3A with a higher student enrollment expected in year one and Freedom High School in South Riding, which will see students shift to the new school, has been moved in the model from 6A, the largest enrollment classification, down to 5A.

News: Champe High School Names Spring Sports Coaches

Aldie (May 9, 2012) - Champe High School, which opens in the fall, has named six spring sports coaches for next year: Joe McDonald (baseball), Kaitlin Petrella (softball), David Madlin (girls soccer), Vik Ohri (boys lacrosse), boys tennis (Thomas Wehner), and CaSandra Alexander (girls track).
