Champe Names McDonald as School’s First Baseball Coach
Last night at the Loudoun County School Board meeting, Joe McDonald was approved as the first head baseball coach at John Champe High School. McDonald comes to Champe from George C. Marshall where he has been the head coach since 2008. Prior to Marshall he was the head coach at McLean for five years, where in 2004 he was named the Liberty District Baseball Coach of the Year.
McDonald is a graduate of Marymount University. A dynamic leader, coach McDonald has spent his life dedicated to coaching baseball and mentoring the youth. He is a devoted family man and a community leader. Currently he is the Vice President of the Loudoun South Little League.
Coach McDonald is extremely excited to create and establish the Champe baseball program and continue his solid and productive relationship with the community. His intensity, passion, and vision will establish a solid foundation for the Knights program. McDonald is currently a learning resource teacher at J. Michael Lunsford Middle School.

Champe Names Petrella as School’s First Softball Coach
Last night at the Loudoun County School Board meeting, Kaitlin Petrella was approved as the first head softball coach at John Champe High School. Petrella comes to Champe from Briar Woods where she is the JV softball coach.
Coach Petrella has had quite the impressive playing career. She was a 4-year varsity starter at Heritage where she was named either the MVP or received the coaches award all four years. Petrella was 1st team All State shortstop and still holds the career season batting average .571 and is top two in every offensive category. After high school she moved on and played softball at the University of Mary Washington. At Mary Washington she was also a 4-year starter. Petrella was named 1st or 2nd team All Conference three years and All East Coast her junior year. She currently still holds career records in home runs (18), RBI’s, hits, and slugging percentage.
Petrella, a graduate of Mary Washington, earned her BA in Business Administration and Marketing. Coach Petrella is passionate about softball and has a vision to establish a solid foundation for the Knights program. She has great energy and is extremely positive. Petrella is excited to work with the girls – she leads by example and focuses on the fundamentals of the game.

Champe Names Madlin as School’s First Girls Soccer Coach
Last night at the Loudoun County School Board meeting, David Madlin was approved as the first head girls soccer coach at John Champe High School.
Madlin comes to Champe from having coached the past eight years at the Arlington Travel Soccer Club and past two years with the Loudoun County Youth Soccer Association. He has been the head coach at the 14U, 15U, 16U, 17U and 18U age groups. During his tenure as coach his teams experienced a wealth of success including multiple 1st and 2nd place tournament wins and finishing seasons with teams ranked in the Top 10 in Virginia. In addition coach Madlin has been instrumental in placing 15 girls at the D1-D3 NCAA college soccer programs over the years. Madlin has also coached at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria for two years. While at Bishop Ireton he was the assistant varsity coach and helped lead the team to the school’s first ever WCAC finalist appearance.
Madlin has dedicated his life to soccer. He has played semi-pro in the United Kingdom and once his playing days were over he focused his efforts on the development of soccer in the Northern Virginia. He has shared his experience and knowledge of the game by coaching young women for the club and youth programs to help develop their skills to prepare them for the next level. His passion, dedication and commitment to the game of soccer are second to none. Madlin is currently a teacher’s assistant in Special Education at Freedom High School.

Champe Names Ohri as School’s First Boys Lacrosse Coach
Last night at the Loudoun County School Board meeting, Vik Ohri was approved as the first head boys lacrosse coach at John Champe High School. Ohri comes to Champe from Freedom High School where he has been the head JV coach the past five seasons. Coach Ohri has coached all over Northern Virgina at W.T. Woodson, Marshall, and Hayfield high schools in capacities as assistant varsity and head JV coach.
He is the director and founder of Eagle Lax, a summer and fall travel team based out of Dulles South. Ohri is a Deputy Sheriff for the City of Alexandria and is currently assigned to the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy in Ashburn as an instructor.
A resident of Aldie, coach Ohri’s experience, passion, intensity, and vision will establish a solid foundation for the Knights’ lacrosse program by setting a standard of excellence from the beginning.

Champe Names Wehner as School’s First Boys Tennis Coach
Last night at the Loudoun County School Board meeting, Thomas Wehner was approved as the first varsity boys tennis coach at John Champe High School. Wehner comes to Champe after having been the head girls tennis coach at Freedom High School.
An energetic individual, Wehner has been involved in tennis and sports in different capacities throughout his life. Coach Wehner played tennis for three years at Liberty High School and then continued his playing career at Ferrum College for three years, where he earned his B.A. in Russian. He is currently an USTA official.
After college Wehner spent two years in the Sports Information Office at Tennessee Tech, where he completed his Masters in Curriculum and Instruction in August 2011. He served as the primary contact for volleyball, men’s basketball, rifle, softball, and men’s and women’s tennis. While at TTU he worked on a national level working several NCAA Division I and III National Championships.

Champe Names Alexander as School’s First Girls Track Coach
Last night at the Loudoun County School Board meeting, CaSandra Alexander was approved as the first head girls track coach at John Champe High School.
Alexander comes to Champe from W.T. Woodson where she was the head cross country coach, assistant track & field coach for the past four years as well as the assistant director of student activities for the past two years. Prior to that she was the head cross country coach and assistant track & field coach for one year at McLean High School. During that year coach Alexander was named the FCPS Women in Sports Coach of the Year for McLean High School. She is a graduate of West Virginia University, and is currently a semester away from earning her Master’s of Arts in education and human development from George Washington University.
Alexander a native of Loudoun County is extremely excited to come back and create a solid foundation for the Knights track program. She is also a physical education teacher and the health and PE department chair for John Champe High School.
