(May 29, 2012) - The Potomac Falls High School softball team made history on Monday with its first ever regional playoff win, a 2-0 Region II first round win at Powhatan.
It was a unified team effort by all the players with strong pitching, timely hitting and solid defense. Senior Caitie McClay faced 27 batters, allowing just four hits, with four strike outs and no walks. Supporting McClay was a stellar defense, with strong plays in both the infield and outfield.
The Panthers put two runs on the board in the first inning and that was enough. Contributing with hits were senior Carlyn Hanzel (2 for 3, run), senior Lauren Fulcher (1 for 3, Run, RBI), freshman Logan Mehalic (1 for 3, triple, RBI) and freshman Lauren Pollock (1 for 3, double).
Loudoun County also won Monday, blanking Sherando, 3-0, to give the Dulles District four teams in tonight's Region II quarterfinals. The Panthers are at Fauquier will the Raiders travel to Dulles champ Woodgrove.
