Tennis: Freedom Boys Clinch State Bid, Broad Run Girls One Win Away; Dominion's Chou, Woodgrove's Lampl Rule at Dulles Tournament

(May 18, 2012) - The Freedom High School boys swept Broad Run Thursday to improve to 21-0 and earn a trip to the AAA state tournament. First the Eagles will play host Albemarle today at 3:30 p.m. in the Northwest Region finals.

The Broad Run girls are one win away from joining the Eagles in the state tournament as the Spartans improved to 18-0 Wednesday with a 5-4 win over Forest Park. The Spartans make the long road trip to Franklin County for a Northwest Region semifinal this afternoon.

In the Dulles District Dominion's Alex Chou and Woodgrove's Sunnie Lampl wrapped up Dulles District singles titles this week and then the two seniors combined with freshman Jake Stapleton and senior Lucia Jacangelo to take the doubles titles.


Chou defeated Loudoun County's Bill Bouweiri, 6-2, 6-1, in the semifinals before beating Briar Wooods' Kyle Mateyou, 6-2, 6-1, in the finals.

Lampl did not drop a game as she defeated Linh Pham Nguyen of Park View and Dominque Huynh of Dominion both 6-0, 6-0.

It was more of the same in doubles as Chou and Stapleton beat the Loudoun County doubles duo for the title and Lampl and Jacangelo knocked off Dominion for their crown.
