(June 21, 2013) - Briar Woods High School's competitive cheer coach Kristin Develli, who in 2012 led the Falcons to their four consecutive straight AA state titles, will not be at the helm in the fall as former Dominion coach Lucia Curry was approved as the new Briar Woods varsity head coach at the June 11 school board meeting.

Other new varsity coaches according to the board docs:

• Juliet Kenny will be John Champe's head gymnastics coach in the winter. She was an assistant in the Knights first year under Hope Spivey.
• Sema Knonur is Heritage High School's new varsity cheer coach
• Kendall Beebe, a Potomac Falls High School grad, is Park View's new girls volleyball coach.

Cheers Sports and Viva Loudoun 2012 Falls Sports "Fan Favorites"

(June 19, 2013) - For the first time this year Cheers Sports and Viva Loudoun teamed up to pick an All Loudoun team for every varsity sport played in the 13 public high schools in Loudoun County. The competition was fierce to make the teams so we wanted the fans input to honor those athletes that just missed the All Loudoun cut or those that showed team spirit and hard work that often gets overlooked when it comes to honors.

After voting that saw more than 300 nominations, here are the "Fan Favorites" for Fall 2012. Athletes selected will be invited to a photo shoot this Sunday, June 23 at 12:15 p.m. at Replay Sports in Ashburn. RSVP and full details here.

(May 12, 2013) - Cheers Sports and Viva Loudoun have teamed up to selected their first ever All-Loudoun selections ... the top varsity athletes across the county's 13 public high schools for the 2012-13 school year.

We kicked off the selections with the fall sports season boys cross country, girls cross country, golf, and girls volleyball earlier and now we present the competitive cheer selections.

Briar Woods: Seniors Holly Johnson and Brigham Shellenberger to Continue Cheer Careers in College

(May 9, 2013) - Briar Woods High School seniors Holly Johnson and Brigham Shellenberger, who helped the Falcons win four consecutive VHSL AA state competitive cheer state titles, will continue their cheer careers in college.

Johnson will cheer at Penn State while Shellenberger will cheer at Alderson-Broaddus.

There are now 149 athletes on the Class of 2013 College Choice Chart. The Class of 2012 had a record 207 athletes move on. The Class of 2011 had 145 and the Class of 2010 had 159.

Cheer: Complete A, AA and AAA VHSL State Meet Results

(Nov. 11, 2012) - Briar Woods High School competitive cheer captured its fourth straight VHSL AA state meet Saturday with a 279 point performance in the finals at VCU in Richmond. The Falcons edged Grafton by two points and third place Tab by four points.

Briar Woods, scoring 279.5 as the final AA team to take the mat in the afternoon, was the only local team move on from prelims as Tuscarora scored 245.5 to finish sixth, missing the AA finals by one spot. In AAA, Stone Bridge also just missed the finals, placing sixth with 247.5. Broad Run was 15th with 214.5

Cheer: Four-recious Falcons! Briar Woods Captures 4th Straight AA State Title

Richmond (Nov. 10, 2012) - The Briar Woods High School competitive cheer squad joined the record books Saturday as they became just the third athletic program in Loudoun history to capture four straight state titles with a win at the AA state meet at VCU.

The Falcons four-year run joins the ranks of Broad Run girls soccer (2008-11) and Loudoun County girls volleyball (2007-10).

Competitive Cheer: Four Area Teams Punch Tickets to State Meet - Briar Woods Wins 4th Straight Region II Title

B-What? B-4! Falcons Claim 4th Straight Region II Cheer Title

(Nov. 4, 2012) - Briar Woods High School captured the school's fourth straight Region II competitive cheer title Saturday night at John Champe High School in Aldie. The Falcons will compete for a fourth straight AA state title on Sat. Nov. 10 at VCU in Richmond.

Joining the Falcons in Richmond will be three teams that placed third place in Regionals on Saturday including Tuscarora in Region II and AAA schools Broad Run (Northwest Region) and Stone Bridge (Northern Region).

(Oct. 24, 2012) - Briar Woods High School claimed its fourth straight Dulles District competitive cheer title Wednesday night before a supportive home crowd.

The Falcons scored 230 points to easily best regular-season champion Tuscarora (216). Loudoun County, the No. 5 seed, vaulted to third with a 209 point performance and Dominion edged Woodgrove for the fourth and final Region II spot, 199 to 198.5

Competitive Cheer: Briar Woods Bounces Back with Win at Dulles Mini but Tuscarora Grabs Regular Season Title

(Oct. 11, 2012) - 3-time defending state champion Briar Woods competitive cheer bounced back Wednesday at the second Dulles District mini meet with a win over the 10-school field but Tuscarora, which took the first of the two mini meets, grabbed the regular season district title by a slim two points.

Briar Woods scored 249 on Wednesday for a two-meet total of 480.5 while Tuscarora scores 240.5 on Wednesday for a two-meet total of 482.5.

The Dulles District meet will held on Oct. 24 at Briar Woods.

Competitive Cheer: Stafford, Westfield, Broad Run Claim Top 3 Spots at Park View Invitational

(Oct. 10, 2012) - Stafford High School captured the varsity bracket at the Park View Invitational with Westfield runner-up and Broad Run third.

Dulles District's Woodgrove claimed fourth followed by Freedom, Loudoun Valley, host Park View and then first-year program John Champe.

In the JV competition, Stafford again claimed top honors followed by Woodgrove, Freedom and Park View.

Competitive Cheer: Tuscarora Gets a Leg Up on 3-Time Defending State Champion Briar Woods

Sterling (Oct. 2, 2012) - Over the weekend the Tuscarora High School competitive cheer squad captured the 3-year-old program's first ever meet title by defeating AAA power Stone Bridge at the Cheers Sports Spirit Bowl. On Tuesday the Huskies shocked 3-time defending AA state champion Briar Woods and the rest of the Dulles District with a first place finish at the district's first mini meet at Dominion High School.

Tuesday's competition, coupled with another mini meet Oct. 10 at Woodgrove, will determine the seeding for the Oct. 24 Dulles District meet at Briar Woods. The Falcons are also the 3-time defending Dulles District and Region II champions.

On Tuesday it was Tuscarora scoring 242 points for the win with Briar Woods runner-up at 231.5 followed by Woodgrove (190). It was quite a one-year improvement for a Tuscarora team that was fifth last year in both min meets, scoring between 166 and 184 points.

(Sept. 26, 2012) - Stone Bridge High School will host the 2012 Spirit Bowl competitive cheer competition this Saturday, Sept. 29.

The event, which begins with an 11:10 a.m. processional, features nine high schools including seven from Loudoun: Broad Run, Dominion, Freedom, Park View, Stone Bridge, Tuscarora and Woodgrove. Also competing: Manassas Park and Stafford.

Admission is $6.
