Music News: Park View Band Captures State Title
(Nov. 12, 2010) - The Park View High School Marching Patriots captured their first U.S. Scholastic Bands Association (USSBA) Virginia State Championship on Oct. 30th.
The Patriots gave their best performance of the year in group 2A competition at Glen Allen High School in Richmond. The Patriots also earned a place in this year's USSBA National Championships, which will feature 99 of the nation's top marching bands.
This three-day National Championship takes place today through Sunday at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Out of the 17 Group 2 (40-60 Members) bands that earned a place at Nationals, the Patriots are seeded sixth.

Band: Marching Band Showcase Airs on Local Cable
(Nov. 3, 2010) - LCPS-TV, the educational channel for Loudoun County Public Schools, will air the third installment Thursday night in its four-part series “Marching Band Showcase,” which spotlights the bands of the 12 Loudoun County Public Schools.
“Marching Band Showcase,” now in its third season, can be seen on Comcast Cable channel 18, along with Verizon channel 43 and Openband channel 42. Future episodes will be shown on Thursdays: November 4th and November 11th (all at 8 p.m.). The shows will repeat Monday at 8p.m. and daily at 5:30 p.m.
“Marching Band Showcase” was created and produced by local television producer and Leesburg Technology and Loudoun Cable Commission member Oliver Peters.
Camera work, editing, and research have been provided by the students of the Monroe Technology Center's TV Production and Digital Moviemaking Program, under the supervision of instructor Gary Hawke.
All programming broadcast on LCPS-TV can be simultaneously viewed on the LCPS website at http://www.lcps.org/.

Music News: Freedom, Stone Bridge Bands to Appear with China's Golden Sail Orchestra
(Sept. 29, 2010) - Members of the Freedom and Stone Bridge high school symphonic bands will host a joint concert with the Golden Sail Orchestra from Beijing School 101 on Sunday, Oct. 3.
The concert will be in the Stone Bridge auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at Freedom High School (703-957-4300) and at Stone Bridge High School (571-252-2200) for $5. Proceeds benefit the Freedom and Stone Bridge band programs.

Band: Potomac Falls to Preview Fall Halftime Show on Wednesday
(Aug. 30, 2010) - The Potomac Falls High School Marching Band will perform its halftime show, entitled “Mangione Magic,” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 2nd, at the high school.

Band: Record Number of Loudoun County Public Schools Bands Rates as Superior
(Dec. 17, 2009) - The marching bands representing five Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) high schools received a superior rating during the fall State Marching Festival held by the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association (VBODA).
Superior is the highest ranking the BBODA awards.
The previous single-year high for LCPS bands earning this designation was two.
Bands receiving a superior rating were:
· Dominion High School
· Loudoun County High School
· Loudoun Valley High School
· Park View High School
· Stone Bridge High School
Two other LCPS bands, those representing Briar Woods High School and Freedom High School, received ratings of excellent. Receiving good ratings were Broad Run and Heritage high schools.
All of these bands received their ratings during competitions on October 31st. Dominion, Loudoun County, Loudoun Valley and Stone Bridge earned their superior ratings during the Northwest competition at Millbrook High School in Frederick County. Park View earned its superior rating during the East competition at Massaponax High School in Spotsylvania County.

Band: Briar Woods Senior Mark Davis Named to Army All-American Marching Band
(Dec. 1, 2009) - Briar Woods High School senior Mark Davis has been selected to the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band.
This band will perform on January 10, 2010, at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is the premier high school football game in the nation. It features the nation's top high school senior football players and marching musicians.

Band Box: Potomac Falls Band Hitting the Streets
OK ... we have had mostly sports to kick off VivaLoudoun.com but we are "sports, news and views" and there are so many great programs in Loudoun such as high school band. Thus a feature we like to call "Band Box" which will feature local band news. Send us your updates at dan.sousa[at]verizon.net.
Potomac Falls: Students from the Potomac Falls High School band program (Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion, and Guard) will canvas neighborhoods within the Potomac Falls district from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 26th. Students team up on these “tag days” to ask for donations needed for various aspects of the school's band program. Those donating $10 or more will receive a car magnet.
