Baseball: 5 Aldie Senators Make 2013 North VBL All-Star Squad

(July 4, 2013) - The Aldie Senators have five players on the 2013 Valley Baseball League North All-Star Team including Freedom High School grad Matt Malacane (OF, Seton Hill) and Woodgrove alum J.J. Sarty (2B, William & Mary).

Also making the team from the Senators: Luke Leftwich (RHP, Wofford), Jimmy Dowdell (OF, Boston College) and Matt Tindall (RHP, Trinity).

The VBL All-Star game is scheduled for Sunday, July 7 at Veterans Memorial Park (James Madison University) in Harrisonburg, Va., at 7:30 p.m. 63 players were selected to the All-Star game with 32 on the North team and 31 on the South.


Harrisonburg and Woodstock led all teams with seven All-Star selections each while New Market and Winchester had six players chosen.

General admission tickets to the game are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors citizens and children under 12 years old. Gates open at 3 p.m. with batting practice running from 3:30 p.m. until 4:50 p.m. The 60-yard dash contest will be run from 4:50 p.m. until 5:20 p.m. when the home run Derby starts. The Valley League All-Star game is sponsored by Subway Restaurants and Daniel's Inprint Sportswear.

All-Star Schedule, July 7, 2013:

• 3 p.m. – Gates Open 
• 3:30 p.m. – South Team Batting Practice 
• 4:10 p.m. – North Team Batting Practice 
• 4:50 p.m. – 60-yard Dash contest 
• 5:20 p.m. – Home Run Derby 
• 6:30 p.m. – South Team Infield Practice 
• 6:45 p.m. – North Team Infield Practice 
• 7:15 p.m. – Starting Lineups 
• 7:30 p.m. – First Pitch
