Football: On Top! Mtneer32 Wins You Pick'Em Contest!; LTM's Carl "The Kat" Lukat Wins Media Race!

(Dec. 13, 2012) - Wow! Was there ever any doubt about our season-long Viva Loudoun high school football You Pick'Em contest winner. Mtneer32 of Charles Town opened the year by going a perfect 10-0 in three of he first four weeks and never looked back.

Overall, Mtneer32 went 157-31 and claims the $100 first prize with $100 to the high school of their choice!

Runner-up was JAGman of Ashburn ($50) and we had a tie for third and in the holiday spirit, both players -- BallCoach9 and TBreeden of Purcellville -- will each get $25. In all 299 fans played this season!

In the LoCo Media Experts race Carl "Kitty Kat" Lukat of the Loudoun Times-Mirror wrapped up the LoCo Media Expert title with a 149-39 season, three games better than Gameday's Andy "Don't Call Me Isaac" Hayes. We should note that by the end of the contest, last year's winner, WashPost's Matt Brooks "Oh, Brother" had checked himself into a witness relocation program in order to avoid handing over his crown to the Kat.

Lukat gets $100 donated to his charity of choice: Paws4People.

One final super big shout out to the sponsor of our You Pick'Em Gayle King of CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty ... her generous support allowed the cash prizes! So give her a virtual shout out the  next time you are online! (View the spreadsheet in its entirety)

Football: You Pick'Em Contest Sponsored by Gayle King of CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty - Week 16 - Your State Finals Exam!

(Dec. 6, 2012) - This is it! Your VHSL State Finals exam, so to speak!

You have been taking extra You Pick'Em courses on the weekend, reading Viva Loudoun You Pick'Em for Dummies, consulting the psychic on Route 29 outside of Charlottesville (come on, you know you want to stop one of these times!) and are ready to pick the winner's of the local high school football games (complete the form below!) and if you win for the week ... you will get a Viva Loudoun T-shirt ... the ultimate holiday day gift for your BFF.

Each week we will keep your record and at the end of the year the top player will get $100 in their pocket and $100 given to their local Loudoun high school of choice (hey, our site is called Viva Loudoun ... not Viva Hanover ...). Runner-up gets $50 and third place gets $25.

How do we have these cash prizes to give out ... it is because Gayle King of CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty is our sponsor. If you see her ... THANK her! OPEN the door for her! BUY her a cup of Joe!

Fine print: So I'm going to go ahead and give you the answers and why these teams will win:
D6: L.C. Bird ... obviously "Bird is the Word" and as a bonus I believe L.C. stands for "Love Chewbacca" ... or "Love Championships!"
D5: Come, on, Mickey Knows Football ... I was thinking at first that Lake Taylor was named for Coach Eric Taylor of Friday Night Lights but I was mistaken and let's face it, in Thompson, Loudoun really has their version of Coach Taylor ... and you never bet against Dillon (or East Dillon).
D4: They have a quarterback named Trace and are trying to win a third straight state title ... Trace ... Trey ... It's a done deal. Charlie Pierce has a way of getting his boys prepped for this long rode trip, which seems so much shorter on the celebratory ride home ... give or take the one or two deer you hit outside of Lynchburg ...
D3: For some reason, James Monroe High School wants to be called The James Monroe High School and VHSL is actually using that in its releases ...I'm sorry but if they insist on dong that I'm going to just call them The State Runner-up to Brookville ...
D2: How can you go against the Gooch ... they rule their land ... you know, Goochland ... Besides, one of our favorite athletes of all time was Tiny Gooch, who at the University of Texas in the 1920s was a discus champion, heavyweight wrestling champion and a standout Longhorn football player at a Texas-size height of 6-7, which was huge back then!
D1: At first I was going with Honaker because Hanukkah starts on Dec. 8 at sundown but then I realized I was confusing some spelling but I like the sound of Honaker ... tough sounding ... they play in the Black Diamond District ... that's tough ... Heath Miller, NFL tight end, is an alum ... can't get much tougher ... They are the Tigers ... that is tough, just ask Pi ...

Football: You Pick'Em Contest Sponsored by Gayle King of CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty - 3 Fans Get 11 of 12 Semifinals Right!

(Dec. 5, 2012) - And then there was just one week in our high school football You Pick'Em contest!

Our fan leader, Mtneer32, took care of business again, going 9-3, losing just one game to JAGman who is three back with just six state title games to pick -- still with a shot for the big prize of $100 to the season-long winner (and $100 to their favorite high school athletic program).

We are paying out the top three spots ($50 to runner-up and $25 to third place) so BallCoach9 still is in the money but lost ground with a 7-5 week. TBreeden is one back, keydet93 and WVU FB are two back and Boring is three back ... should be a wild finish!

For the week, we had three fans go an impressive 11-1 picking the state semifinal games: ThrownVA45 of Ashburn; The Spartan of Ashburn; and vipers58 of Ashburn. The winner, based on tiebreaker, was The Spartan (and I know this is killing him since his BR boys are not still playing!) with a 45-0 pick of Briar Woods over Courtland with actual score 45-15. Vipers58 had 52-0 and ThrowinVA had it as a shootout, 42-35!

In the LoCo Media Experts race Carl "Kat's Meow" Lukat of the Loudoun Times-Mirror went 8-4 to take a 2-game lead over expat (Florida is in another country, no?) Paul Tenorio. Andy "Left in a Purple"Hayes of Gameday saw his season hit the skids with a 5-7 week, dropping three back of Lukat.

The LoCo Media Experts are playing not only for glory but the overall season winner will have $100 donated to their favorite charity!

And a super big shout out to the sponsor of our You Pick'Em Gayle King of CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty ... her generous support allows us to fund the cash prizes! So give her a virtual shout out the  next time you are online! (View the spreadsheet in its entirety)

You Pick'Em High School Football Contest Sponsored by Gayle King of CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty: Crunch Time as We Pick State Semifinal Games!

(Nov. 28, 2012) - Time to play week 15 of Viva Loudoun's high school football picks contest You Pick'Em ... 12 state semifinal games to pick this week!

The contest is simple, you pick the winner's of the local high school football games (complete the form below!) and if you win for the week ...We have offered free t-shirts for either presidential candidate to wear at their last debate so tune it! ...

Each week we will keep your record and at the end of the year the top player will get $100 in their pocket and $100 given to their local Loudoun high school of choice (hey, our site is called Viva Loudoun ... not Viva Hanover ...). Runner-up gets $50 and third place gets $25.

How do we have these cash prizes to give out ... we are winning the lottery tonight! ... just teasing ... it is because Gayle King of CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty is our sponsor. If you see her ... THANK her!

Fine print: You have a better chance of having space junk fall in your backyard tonight than you do of winning the lottery ... 69-50?!? Stone Bridge will look to schedule West Virginia University next year ... Briar Woods QB Trace McSorley lost his last start in a preschool playground pickup game ... Falcon Cam Serigne would be the perfect player to wear a helmet "Cam" (get it ... badda bing) ... If SB DL Jon Allen gets to be the the Incredible Hulk then I have dibs on Ironman ... For Briar Woods, when December hits, it becomes "Colder" time ... If both Stone Bridge and Briar Woods advance to the finals, I'm calling at least one speeding ticket between UVa and Liberty University in a week ...

Football: You Pick'Em Results Week 14 - Down to the Final Weeks!

(Nov. 28, 2012) - Truly our high school football You Pick'Em contest is a marathon not a spring and we salute all the fans gamely playing week after week!

Last week's bit of luck via former Washington Postie Paul Tenorio blew right back out this week as Tenorio -- trying to read Florida grapefruit seeds instead of doing research -- crashed out of first in the LoCo Media race with a 11-9 mark.

That left Gameday's head honcho Andy Hayes and Loudoun Times-Mirror Carl "The Kat" Lukat tied in first, two ahead of Tenorio.

On the fans side, Mtneer32 continued to make the picks that count, going 15-5, to maintain a safe 4-game lead with two weeks -- and only 18 games! -- left to pick. JAGman moved into second and the big mover was BallCoach9 who went 18-2 to win the week and take sole possession of third place!

Our fans are playing for an overall season prize of $100 to the winner (plus $100 to their favorite Loudoun high school) with second place netting $50 and third place $25.

The contest is simple, you pick the winner's of the local high school football games (complete the form below!) and if you win for the week ...We have offered free t-shirts for either presidential candidate to wear at their last debate so tune it! ...

How do we have these cash prizes to give out ... because we sold a bunch of junk on ebay ... just teasing ... it is because Gayle King of CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty is our sponsor. If you see her ... THANK her!

You Pick'Em: First Playoff Week Results -- Where Do You Rank Among 250+ Fans?

(Nov. 16, 2012) - The first week of the playoffs and 20 tough games too their toll on fans with only three fans of more than 100 going 17-3 -- the same as Viva Loudoun editor Dan Sousa who says he will keep putting as many games on the You Pick'Em until he catches the other LoCo media Experts!

Our fans are playing for an overall season prize of $100 to the winner (plus $100 to their favorite Loudoun high school) with second place netting $50 and third place $25.

Mtneer32, our season long leader, went a solid 16-4 to maintain a two-game lead over TBreeden. JAGman continues to climb, with a 17-3 week, to tie Larry for third place and five games out of first.

Weekly the winner gets a swag Viva Loudoun T and the inside track to being named Best Dressed at the company Christmas party. Last week Koren won with an almost spot on tiebreaker pick of Loudoun County beating Woodgrove 35-7 (when score was 36-7).

The LoCo Media Experts: Andy "Worldwide" Hayes of Gameday continues his stranglehold  on first place with a 16-3 week. He is two games clear of Carl "The Big Kat" Lukat of the Loudoun Times-Mirror.

So give her a pat on the back the next time you see her at a local game! (View the spreadsheet in its entirety)

You Pick'Em Week 11 Results - KC of Ashburn Wins! Playoffs Up Next!

(Nov. 9, 2012) - We had 115 fans play last week and 11 went 10-0 with KC of Ashburn taking home the t-shirt prize with a tiebreaker of 38-10 in Briar Woods' actual 45-0 win over Loudoun County. Eight of the 11 perfect pickers had the Raiders scoring 21 or more against the frisky Falcon defense!

Our fans are playing for an overall season prize of $100 to the winner (plus $100 to their favorite Loudoun high school) with second place netting $50 and third place $25.

Mtneer32, our season long leader, went 9-1 and picked up two games on Swift30 and WVU FB. TBreeden jumped into second play with a 9-1 week, now two games back. And BWoods Champ 2010 failed to play for the week (say it ain't so!)!

Weekly the winner gets a swag Viva Loudoun T and the inside track to being named Best Dressed in their high school yearbook!

The LoCo Media Experts: Andy "Worldwide" Hayes of Gameday continues to call 'em as he sees 'em and he sees 'em quite good with a 8-2 week. That kept him two games ahead of Carl "The Big Kat" Lukat of the Loudoun Times-Mirror. Moe "Mo ... Mo ... Mo ... How Do You Like It" Murphy also of the LTM had tough week and feel three games behind Hayes. Also three back is Paul "It's 85 degrees where I live ... every day!" Tenorio, formerly of the Washington Post and now of the Orlando Sentinel.

We should note that last year's champ, Matt Brooks of the Washington Post is four games back and will surely claim he doesn't have enough time to win this season since he has just been named high school sports editor of the Washington Post.

So give her a pat on the back the next time you see her at a local game! (View the spreadsheet in its entirety)

You Pick'Em: Week 10 Results - The Field Gains on the Leader

(Nov. 2, 2012) - We had 132 fans play last week and nine went 10-0 but the real story of the week may be that our season-long leader Mtneer32 went a human 8-2 and had more than a dozen players gain a game on his first place spot.

Our fans are playing for an overall season prize of $100 to the winner (plus $100 to their favorite Loudoun high school) with second place netting $50 and third place $25.

Mtneer32 leads Swift30 and WVU FB by a game and BWoods Champ 2010 and TBreeden by two games with six full weeks of play left!

Weekly the winner gets a swag Viva Loudoun T and this week we went to the tiebreaker and Hammied of Leesburg gets the T ... for a second straight week. Talk about your sobering picks ... Hammied actually called Tuscarora's 35-31 win over Woodgrove (and yes we checked the time stamp on their entry!).

The LoCo Media Experts top three: Andy "Worldwide" Hayes of Gameday and the dynamic duo (they went as Fred and Barney for Halloween this week) of Carl Lukat and Moe Murphy of Loudoun Times-Mirror continued their run at the top with 9-1. Hayes -- who went as Dandy Don Meredith for Christmas --  has a two game lead on the LTM duo.

Each week we will keep your record and at the end of the year the top player will get $100 in their pocket and $100 given to their local Loudoun high school of choice (hey, our site is called Viva Loudoun ... not Viva Bowie ...). Runner-up gets $50 and third place gets $25.

How do we have these cash prizes to give out ... because we disclosed our college trnascripts and got $5 million dollars from Donald Trump! ....just teasing ... it is because Gayle King of CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty is our sponsor. If you see her ... THANK her!

Fine print: No excuses such as "Frankenstorm" ate my picks will be accepted for late picks ... The Viva Loudoun "Fox" is now running as a write-in for President under the "We Won't Call You ... Ever" ticket ... Rejected names for next week's storm: Trick or Sleet and October Snow-prise ...  Freedom's Brendan Kammerdiener was so fired up after last week's near-400 yard rushing game at Champe that he skipped the bus ride home and ran straight to South Riding ... I like first-year John Champe's mascot ... that Knight is no Rook-e (yes, that was a chess joke because if you are old enough to remember from SNL "Chess is the Word" ...) ... The Fox for any amount of money is willing to provide full transcripts of his many years spent at Winnie-the-Pooh Preschool ... Free t-shirt to the first person that goes as the Viva Loudoun "Fox" for Halloween ... If you can't find any of your siblings candy next week, look in their closet under a pile of clothes as that worked for me in 1969 (sorry sis!) ... Can we have just one game where Briar Woods' Matt Rolin lines up at LB behind Stone Bridge's DL Jon Allen ...

You Pick'Em: Week 9 Results - 22 Fans go 10-0!

Oct. 24, 2012) - We had 136 fans play last week and 22 went 10-0 including our overall leader Mtneer32 of Charles Town (81-9 record - Wow!) maintained a two game lead on the nearest pickers.

Our fans are playing for an overall season prize of $100 to the winner (plus $100 to their favorite Loudoun high school) with second place netting $50 and third place $25.

Weekly the winner gets a swag Viva Loudoun T and this week we went to the tiebreaker and Hammied of Leesburg gets the T ... not many of you predicted that Eagles vs. Knights shootout so Hammied's 35-21 tiebreaker was closest tot he 42-26 final.

The LoCo Media Experts top three: Andy "Worldwide" Hayes of Gameday and the dynamic duo (no, really, you ought to see these guys in spandex) of Carl Lukat and Moe Murphy of Loudoun Times-Mirror showed why they are up top with 10-0 weeks. Hayes -- who must work 24-7 during football season with all the games Gameday broadcasts -- has a two game lead on the LTM duo.

The LoCo Media Experts are playing not only for glory but the overall season winner will have $100 donated to their favorite charity!

Football: You Pick'Em Week 9 Sponsored by Gayle King of CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty

(Oct. 17, 2012) - We start Week 9 of our Viva Loudoun high school football You Pick'Em contest.

The contest is simple, you pick the winner's of the local high school football games (complete the form below!) and if you win for the week ...We have offered free t-shirts for either presidential candidate to wear at their last debate so tune it! ...

Each week we will keep your record and at the end of the year the top player will get $100 in their pocket and $100 given to their local Loudoun high school of choice (hey, our site is called Viva Loudoun ... not Viva Las Vegas ...). Runner-up gets $50 and third place gets $25.

How do we have these cash prizes to give out ... it all starts with a freefall from space with a pocket full of one's ....just teasing ... it is because Gayle King of CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty is our sponsor. If you see her ... THANK her!

Fine print: Use of performance enhancers (yes, you Lance A.) is prohibited as is the use of a binder full of women ... At halftime of Friday's game at Stone Bridge the TJ football team will hold a quantum mechanics seminar in the North end zone ... LC coach Todd Hill has had to explain to his team that it isn't the first team to 50 that wins, you still have to play 4 quarters even though they are scoring a game's worth in the first ... Shouldn't we name Broad Run's corps of WRs the Brady (Reitzel) Bunch ... In a strange move, in the VHSL new classification system the Viva Loudoun world headquarters was accidentally classified as a D1 small school and we haven't had the heart to tell the "Fox" as he has been out practicing the single (chicken) wing in the back yard ... We predict that Briar Woods will NOT win this week ... Book it .... Freedom vs. John Champe Part II comes awfully fast as I don't think the box office numbers are even in on the first go round ... We deferred the coin toss at our wedding ... big mistake ... While we think a line of Josh "Sweet T" Sweet beverages will be a big seller in Purcellville the same can't be said for Mike Skinner's Old School Jerky ... You Pick'Em: Week 8 Results - LaFlamaBlanc the Only 10-0 Player for the Week!

(Oct. 17, 2012) - With 139 fans playing last week only one -- LaFlamaBlanc of Sterling -- went 10-0!

As for the season-long standings, Mtneer32 of Charles Town (71-9 record) still leads but a pack of six fans are just two games back with plenty of picks left!

Our fans are playing for an overall season prize of $100 to the winner (plus $100 to their favorite Loudoun high school) with second place netting $50 and third place $25.

The LoCo Media Experts has a clear frontrunner now as Andy "Worldwide" Hayes of Gameday has opened up a two game lead over the trio of Carl Lukat and Moe Murphy of Loudoun Times-Mirror (both of whom, by the way, are starring next week in Berryville's Actor's Theatre version of the Odd Couple) and Paul "I've Got Sunshine" Tenorio of the Orlando Sentinel (yes, you read that right as Paul just left the Washington Post for greener pastures, er, everglades).

So give her a thumbs up the next time you see her at a local game! (View the spreadsheet in its entirety)

You Pick'Em: Week 8 Sponsored by Gayle King of CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty

(Oct. 11, 2012) - We start Week 8 of our Viva Loudoun high school football You Pick'Em contest.

The contest is simple, you pick the winner's of the local high school football games (complete the form below!) and if you win for the week ...We have offered free t-shirts to either Channing Tatum or Steve Carell while they are in town! ...

Each week we will keep your record and at the end of the year the top player will get $100 in their pocket and $100 given to their local Loudoun high school of choice (hey, our site is called Viva Loudoun ... not Viva Las Vegas ...). Runner-up gets $50 and third place gets $25.

How do we have these cash prizes to give out ... it all starts with a poorly worded plea from a fleeing monarch ....just teasing ... it is because Gayle King of CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty is our sponsor. If you see her ... THANK her!

Fine print: RG3 sighting at your high school increases your chances of winning by 79 percent ... The Viva "Fox" went into hiding after hearing that the movie "Foxcatcher" might be doing some filming at Morven Park in Leesburg ... We will not answer the phones at our World HQ between now and Election Day (curse you robo calls!) ... Loudoun Hounds: 3 years delayed, 2 stadium locations, 1 darn cute mascot .... We were upset to find out that the new Silver Line cars are not actually made of silver ... Fox is searching for a P90 X workout partner now that Paul Ryan is busy with that debate thingie ... Yes, we just used the word thingie .... If volleyball coaches had to wear uniforms like the baseball managers, OK, that would be kind of scary ... No animals (especially Foxes) were harmed in the making of this fine print ... we have a new game that you read the words "On Viva Loudoun" after any fortune cookie saying ... For example, let's crack two open: "A kind word will keep someone warm for years ... on Viva Loudoun" or "A thrilling time is in store for you ... on Viva Loudoun"

You Pick'Em: JAGman Wins for Second Straight Week, Co-Winner with Rolltide

(Oct. 11, 2012) - I know you are all feeling really good about your picking power as we had 31 fans go a perfect 10-0 last week out of 155 playing.

So that tiebreaker was REALLY important and JAGman of Ashburn won for the second straight week, along with rolltide of Ashburn (not you rolltide of Great Falls!) as they had Briar Woods winning 50-114 and 48-14 when the actual score was 49-17.

JAGman and rolltide will get a Viva Loudoun one-of-a-kind t-shirt (OK 2 of a kind for JAG) as well as a gift certificate from Roosters Men's Grooming Center of Goose Creek Village, good for a free haircut or shave!

As for the season-long standings, Mtneer32 of Charles Town (63-7 record) went 9-1 and still saw their lead increase as second place Mr. Dubya of Sterling went 8-2, allowing WeaselVT (10-0) to move into a tie for second. The real story is that a very hot group of six fans now sits just three games off Mtneer's lead and they are closing in each week.

Our fans are playing for an overall season prize of $100 to the winner (plus $100 to their favorite Loudoun high school) with second place netting $50 and third place $25.

The LoCo Media Experts now features at tie between Andy Hayes of Gameday Magazine and Moe Murphy of Loudoun Times-Mirror with a trio just behind.

So give her a thumbs up the next time you see her at a local game! (View the spreadsheet in its entirety)

Football: You Pick'Em Contest Week 7 Sponsored by Gayle King of CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty

(Sept. 26, 2012) - We start Week 7 of our Viva Loudoun high school football You Pick'Em contest.

The contest is simple, you pick the winner's of the local high school football games (complete the form below!) and if you win for the week ...We have offered free t-shirts to either presidential candidate willing to wear one at the next debate so tune in! ...

Each week we will keep your record and at the end of the year the top player will get $100 in their pocket and $100 given to their local Loudoun high school of choice (hey, our site is called Viva Loudoun ... not Viva Las Vegas ...). Runner-up gets $50 and third place gets $25.

How do we have these cash prizes to give out ... a little thing called telemarketing! ... just teasing ... it is because Gayle King of CENTURY 21 Redwood Realty is our sponsor. If you see her ... THANK her!

Fine print: Please limit all rebuttals to this Fine Print to two minutes ... On previous days when it is 84 degrees and great golf weather we reserve the right to make the Fine Print very short ... It helps to read this Fine Print with real Natitude ... We are looking it up but the Redskins with an exciting young quarterback and both the Orioles and Nationals in the playoffs quite possibly is one of signs of the ending of the sports world ... Is there an official naming commission for student sections? We miss baton twirlers at football games ... did they go away because it was deemed too dangerous to toss up the baton? ... dating back to youth football, Briar Woods' JR Trace McSorley's career record a s a starter is 142,378 wins and 4 losses (no, look it up) ...  We think Freedom and John Champe should be some swagger in their match-up and call it the "Battle of Route Fiddy" ...
