News: Early Registration for Special Olympics Golf Tournament Extended

(July 9, 2013) - Early registration for the Special Olympics Loudoun County 3rd Annual Golf Outing has been extended until July 12. The outing will take place Monday, Aug. 5, 2013 at Raspberry Falls Golf and Hunt Club in Leesburg.

The format is a four-member scramble tournament with a fee of $120 per golfer or $480 per foursome through July 12. After that date, it will be $135/$540.

Golf: Woodgrove Grads Nick Kovach and Maclendon Aiken to Continue Careers in College


(July 9, 2013) - Two recently graduated Woodgrove High School golfers will be continuing their athletic careers in college.

Nick Kovach has signed with Virginia Wesleyan College. Virginia Wesleyan is a Division 3 school that competes in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. While at Woodgrove, Kovach has set the school record for best score over 18 holes (74) and is tied with three others for nine holes (37). He was a 2012 Dulles District medalist at 74 and a 2012 regional qualifier.

Maclendon Aiken signed with Taylor University in Indiana. Taylor University is a NAIA school that competes in the Crossroads League. Taylor is a three-year letterman who was consistently in the top six for the Wolverines. He qualified for districts all three years and set a personal best score (79) in the 2012 Dulles District Tournament.

The Viva Loudoun College Choice Chart is now up to 177 athletes for the Class of 2013 with Woodgrove tied with Stone Bridge for the most playing in college at 27 each. The Class of 2012 had an all-time high of college athletic participation of 207 athletes.

Cheers Sports and Viva Loudoun 2012 Falls Sports "Fan Favorites"

(June 19, 2013) - For the first time this year Cheers Sports and Viva Loudoun teamed up to pick an All Loudoun team for every varsity sport played in the 13 public high schools in Loudoun County. The competition was fierce to make the teams so we wanted the fans input to honor those athletes that just missed the All Loudoun cut or those that showed team spirit and hard work that often gets overlooked when it comes to honors.

After voting that saw more than 300 nominations, here are the "Fan Favorites" for Fall 2012. Athletes selected will be invited to a photo shoot this Sunday, June 23 at 12:15 p.m. at Replay Sports in Ashburn. RSVP and full details here.

Heritage: A Whole Lot of Pride on College Signing Day

(May 22, 2013) - There was a whole lot of Pride at Heritage High School this week as the school held a ceremony for athletes playing in college next year. The 10 athletes featured in the ceremony, some of them previously not on our College Choice Chart, brings Heritage's total commitments from the Class of 2013 to 22 athletes.

Golf: Cheers Sports and Viva Loudoun 2012-13 All-Loudoun Team

(May 12, 2013) - Cheers Sports and Viva Loudoun have teamed up to selected their first ever All-Loudoun selections ... the top varsity athletes across the county's 13 public high schools for the 2012-13 school year.

We kicked off the selections with the fall sports season boys cross country and girls cross country earlier and now we present the golf selections.

Golf: Loudoun County Grad Joey McLister Playing PGA Event at Quail Hollow

(May 3, 2013) - Loudoun County High School grad Joey McLister qualified for the PGA event at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, N.C. and was 1-under on Friday thru six holes entering the "Green Mile" -- holes 16, 17, 18.

McLister, who started Friday's round on the back nine, was five over on Thursday for a four over score for the tournament. McLister's brother, Kevin,a Loudoun County grad who won the Dulles District title in 2010, is caddying for Joey this week!

News: 8th Annual Dominion Golf Classic Set for May 14 at Trump National

(March 20, 2013) - The 8th Annual Dominion Golf Classic and reception is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14 at Trump National Golf Club. The event is the largest fundraiser for Dominion's Parent Teacher Organization, ATLAS.

Non-golfers can support the event with reception tickets available at $25. Reception price includes adult beverages, light dinner and opportunity to take part in the raffle and silent auction. Baseball: Stone Bridge to Hold Golf Tournament Fundraiser

(Feb. 27, 2013) - The Stone Bridge High School baseball team will hold a golf tournament fundraiser on April 21 with a 9 a.m. shotgun start on the Robert Trent Jones course at Lansdowne Resort. Golf: Broad Run SR Danielle Cook Commits to Bridgewater College

(Feb. 26, 2013) - Broad Run High School senior Danielle Cook has committed to play golf next year at NCAA Division III Bridgewater College.

Golf: Loudoun Junior Golf Registration Opens March 1

(Feb. 26, 2013) - Registration for the Loudoun Junior Golf Association will open on March 1 and will run until April 15. Participation is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 18 regardless of skill level. The program provides tournament play on local courses, instruction from PGA professionals, hats, shirts, and lots more. Golf: Madison's Brooks Wins VHSL Girls Open Title; Broad Run's Dani Cook, Desiree Razon Top 20

Lorton (Oct. 23, 2021) - James Madison High School's Shannon Brooks shot a 73 Tuesday for a two-day total of 145 to capture the VHSL Girls Open Championship by two strokes at Laurel Hill Golf Club. Broad Run's Dani Cook finished tied for 15th and her teammate Desiree Razon was tied for 19th.

Cook shot 83-83 for a 166 and Razon shot 80-89 for 169. Stone Bridge's Arianna Israel finished 33rd (93-90). Complete Results:

Golf: First Standings VHSL Girls Open State Championship

(Oct. 22, 2012) - A pair of James Madison High School athletes are at the top of the leaderboard after the firs day of the VHSL Girls Open State Championship Monday at Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton.

Shannon Brooks shot an even par 72 to lead her teammate Amber Liu and Clover Hill's Abby Portyrata by a stroke. Lord Botetourt's Lyndsey Hunnell is two strokes back. Broad Run's Desiree Razon is tied for 12th at 80. Her teammate Danielle Cook is 16th at 83.

Stone Bridge's Israel Arianna shot 93.

Golf: Three Locals Qualify for VHSL Girls Open State Tournament

(Oct. 18, 2012) - Loudoun athletes claimed three of the seven spots up for grabs Monday at the Northwest Zone Qualifying tournament at the 1757 Club for the VHSL Girls Open State Tournament.

Broad Run's Desiree Razon and Danielle Cook of Broad Run and Arianna Israel of Stone Bridge all qualified.

Golf: Loudoun Valley JR Ian Hildebrand Finishes Runner-up at AA State Tournament

Harrisonburg (Oct. 10, 2012) - Loudoun Valley High School junior Ian Hildebrand finished runner-up at the AA state golf tournament at the Lakeview Golf Club, just missing the state title after Blacksburg's Ryan Monday shot a sizzling 67 Tuesday for at two-day total fo 145 to edge Hildebrand by a stroke.

Heritage's Ryan Douglass earned all-state honors with a tie for 8th at 148 and Dominion's Erik Dulik just missed all-state by a stroke, shooting 149.

Salem ran away with the team title with a 597, 25 strokes better than runner-up Spotswood. Dominion finish 7th with a 648. Full results:

Golf: Local Golfers Make Bid for State Title at AA Tournament

(Oct. 9, 2012) - Loudoun golfers are making a strong bid to bring the Virginia High School League AA individual state title back home for a second straight year with a trio -- Heritage's Ryan Douglass and Ryan O'Sullivan and Loudoun Valley's Ian Hildebrand -- all shooting 73 Monday to sit one off the pace of co-leaders at 72.

It appears unlikely that Loudoun will celebrate any team titles as Dulles District champion Dominion had a tough opening day, shooting 337 as a team to sit last in the 8-team field for the two-day event at Lakeview Golf Club in Harrisonburg. The Titans were paced by Erik Dulik's 76 and defending state champion Sam Stilwell's 80.

Golf: Dominion Runner-up at Region II; Titan Sam Stilwell Takes Individual Title

(Sept. 28, 2012) - Dominion High School, behind Sam Stilwell's individual title winning 69, finished runner-up at the Region II tournament Thursday at Shenandoah Valley Golf Course and qualified as a team for the AA state tournament.

Stilwell's 69 led a great Loudoun effort as Heritage's Ryan Douglass was runner-up with a 71, Titan Erik Dulik was fourth with a 72 and two other local athletes qualified for the AA state tournament as well: Loudoun Valley's Ian Hildebrand (75) and Heritage's Ryan O'Sullivan (76).

Western Albemarle won the tournament with a 300, five shots ahead of Dominion at 305. Tuscarora was 4th in the 8-team tournament with a 314.
