Golf: Woodgrove Grads Nick Kovach and Maclendon Aiken to Continue Careers in College

(July 9, 2013) - Two recently graduated Woodgrove High School golfers will be continuing their athletic careers in college.

Nick Kovach has signed with Virginia Wesleyan College. Virginia Wesleyan is a Division 3 school that competes in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. While at Woodgrove, Kovach has set the school record for best score over 18 holes (74) and is tied with three others for nine holes (37). He was a 2012 Dulles District medalist at 74 and a 2012 regional qualifier.

Maclendon Aiken signed with Taylor University in Indiana. Taylor University is a NAIA school that competes in the Crossroads League. Taylor is a three-year letterman who was consistently in the top six for the Wolverines. He qualified for districts all three years and set a personal best score (79) in the 2012 Dulles District Tournament.

The Viva Loudoun College Choice Chart is now up to 177 athletes for the Class of 2013 with Woodgrove tied with Stone Bridge for the most playing in college at 27 each. The Class of 2012 had an all-time high of college athletic participation of 207 athletes.

College Corner: Woodgrove Grad Bogan Busts Her Way into Virginia Wesleyan Starting Line-up, Earns D3 National, ODAC Player of the Week Honors

(March 19, 2013) - After scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning against Averett on Feb. 27, Virginia Wesleyan freshman outfielder Courtney Bogan earned a nod in the starting lineup for the remainder of the week, leading to a 10-for-15 (.667) performance at the plate with nine runs, six RBI, one double, three triples, six steals and one home run for the Woodgrove High School grad.

Bogan, who helped the Wolverines win the AA state softball title a year ago, earned the Louisville Slugger/NFCA DIII National Player and Old Dominion Athletic Conference player of the Week honors.

Baseball: Loudoun County SR Josh Martin to Play at Virginia Wesleyan

(Nov. 13, 2012) - Loudoun County High School senior Josh Martin has committed to continue his baseball career at Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk Virginia.

Martin has spent much of his time at LCHS behind the plate as a catcher, but looks to play the infield (2nd base) for the Marlins. VWC is part of the ODAC Conference.

Softball: Woodgrove's Allie Reid, Courtney Bogan to Play at the NCAA D3 Level Next Year at Randolph-Macon, Virginia Wesleyan

(April 4, 2012) - Woodgrove High School softball seniors Allie Reid and Courtney Bogan will take their talents to the NCAA Division III ranks next year as Reid will play at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland and Bogan at Virginia Wesleyan College in Hampton Roads.

The two Wolverines helped their team last spring make it to the AA state title game in the school's first season, falling to Dulles District rival Briar Woods in the championship game. Woodgrove claimed the Region II title on their way to the state finals.

Softball: Briar Woods Senior Kristina Karagiorgis to Play at Virginia Wesleyan

(May 31, 2011) - Briar Woods High School senior Kristina Karagiorgis, who has helped the Briar Woods High School softball team to three consecutive Dulles District tournament titles, is setto play next year at NCAA Division III Virginia Wesleyan College.
