Girls Soccer: Stone Bridge Class of 2012 Grad Elizabeth Blanco to Play at Randolph-Macon

(July 8, 2012) - The Class of 2012 officially hit 200 commitments on Viva Loudoun's College Choice Chart with the news that keeper Elizabeth Blanco of Stone Bridge High School will play soccer this coming school year at NCAA Division III Randolph-Macon.

"This is an exciting time for our program and I look forward to having you officially join us!," Randolph-Macon women's coach Jim Woods wrote Blanco.

Blanco joins a Randolph-Macon roster that includes Leesburg natives China Bradley (Heritage High School) and Alex Trusdale (South Glenn Falls). Randolph-Macon open s the 2012 season Aug. 31 vs. Washington College.

Blanco's commitment pushes Stone Bridge ahead of Briar Woods with 22 athletes from the Class of 2012 to play in college, second only to South Riding's Freedom High School (24). Just behind Briar Woods (21) are Broad Run (20) and Woodgrove (20).

There are now 42 soccer players from the Class of 2012 moving on to the higher level.

Football: Broad Run's Danny Gallagher Signs with Randolph-Macon

Ashburn (May 28, 2012) - Broad Run High School senior Danny Gallagher has signed to play football next year at NCAA Division Randolph-Macon College in Ashland.

Gallagher, a linebacker and long snapper for the Spartans, was a 2-year starter and captain as a senior. Spartan coach Matt Griffis called Gallagher an "emotional leader" of the team.

At Randolph-Macon he will join Broad Run 2011 grads Ryan Garrity and Kevin Varrela as well as Loudoun Valley grad Joe Siegel.

Boys Lacrosse: Woodgrove SR Darren Baker to Play Lacrosse Next Year at D3 Randolph-Macon College

(April 20, 2012) - Woodgrove High School senior Darren Baker becomes our latest athlete headed to the college ranks as he has announced that he will play lacrosse next year at NCAA Division III Randolph-Macon College in Ashland.

 Baker becomes the 128th athlete to grace our College Choice Charts ... let us know if we are missing your favorite prep star!

Class of 2012 has a show at catching the Class of 2011 which had 145 commits. Class of 2010 was a Loudoun all-time high with 159 athletes going on to college. Baker's addition gives second-year Woodgrove 14 athletes on the chart, just behind now the Ashburn trio of Broad Run (17), Stone Bridge (17) and Briar Woods (16). Stone Bridge led in 2011 with 33, double digits ahead of Broad Run (22). In 2010 in was Loudoun Valley with 32, ahead of Broad Run (25).

Softball: Woodgrove's Allie Reid, Courtney Bogan to Play at the NCAA D3 Level Next Year at Randolph-Macon, Virginia Wesleyan

(April 4, 2012) - Woodgrove High School softball seniors Allie Reid and Courtney Bogan will take their talents to the NCAA Division III ranks next year as Reid will play at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland and Bogan at Virginia Wesleyan College in Hampton Roads.

The two Wolverines helped their team last spring make it to the AA state title game in the school's first season, falling to Dulles District rival Briar Woods in the championship game. Woodgrove claimed the Region II title on their way to the state finals.

Baseball: Stone Bridge Trio Celebrates College Signing

(May 23, 2011) - Stone Bridge High School held a college signing celebration for a trio of baseball players that will take the field next year at the college level. Ryan Johnston (Concord University), Mac West (Francis Marion) and Sid Harvey (Randolph-Macon) were joined by family, teammates and coaches in the school's library on Thursday May 19.

Football: Broad Run to Hold College Signing Celebration for Five Players Friday

(May 18, 2011) - Broad Run High School will hold a college signing celebration for five football players that will continue their careers next year on the college level.

The ceremony at 4 p.m. will honor: Joe Walter IUP (ndiana University of Penn); Ryan Garity - Randolph-Macon; Kevin Varella - Randolph-Macon; Eddie Barnes - Washington and Lee; and Tyler Lafollette - Fairmont State.

Baseball: Stone Bridge to Hold Signing Ceremony for Three Players on May 19.

Ashburn (May 16, 2011) - Stone Bridge High School will honor three baseball players headed to the college ranks in a ceremony on Thursday, May 19 at 4:15 p.m. in the school's library.

The group includes Mac West (Frances Marion), Ryan Johnston (Concord), and Sid Harvey (Randolph-Macon).

West is having a good senior season on the mound where he has tossed a 1-hitter and 3-hitter.

Stone Bridge baseball coach Sam Plank: "Mac is excited about his decision to play for the No. 6 ranked Division II team in the country. Next season the Patriots will move to the beautiful New West Campus Athletic Complex, which will be one of the nicest Stadiums in the Region."

Also for Stone Bridge JJ White (Penn State) and Ty Lighton (UVA-Wise) were honored in an earlier ceremony.
