South Riding (May 16, 2012) - The Freedom High School boys tennis team improved to school-record 19-0 on the season with a 5-0 sweep over Colonial Forge in the Northwest Region quarterfinals. The Eagles now host Cedar Run District rival Broad Run (11-7) at 4:45 p.m. today in a semifinal match with the winner clinching a trip to the AAA state tournament.
The Eagles were led Tuesday with victories by Wesley Wong, Alex Cragg, Brian Park, Tin Nguyen-Phan, Varun Kulkarni. David Choi led when his match was halted.
The other semifinal features Albemarle at Patrick Henry-Roanoke. Albemarle beat Woodbridge, 5-1, while PH-R edged Cedar Run runner-up Stonewall Jackson, 5-4.
On the girls side, undefeated Broad Run (16-0) is still waiting to get in its regional quarterfinal match with Forest Park. The Albemarle at Franklin County quarterfinal was also delayed to today because of weather. Both Colonial Forge, with a 5-2 win over Osbourn Park, and Riverbend, a 5-1 winner over Osbourn, have already advanced to the semifinals.
