Girls Volleyball: PrepVolleyball.com Top Sophomores in the Nation List Features 5 Loudoun Players

(May 17, 2012) - PrepVolleyball.com released recently its list of the top 79 high school sophomore girls volleyball players in the country and five Loudoun athletes are featured: Sarah Fairchild (Stone Bridge), Megan Bryn (Stone Bridge), Madeline Fowler (Heritage), Libby Haslett (Stone Bridge) and Maggie Phillips (Loudoun County).

Here is what PrepVolleyball.com said about the five:


Highest Honorable: Mention Sarah Fairchild, 5-6 Libero, Stone Bridge (Ashburn), Virginia) -- Fairchild helped lead her team to a 28-3 record and a Virginia AAA state semifinal appearance. She earned first-team all-district and all-region honors and was named to the district and regional all-tournament teams. Fairchild also is a Washington Post all-Met second-team pick. ?Sarah is surprisingly accurate not only when receiving a serve, but also when playing a hard-hit ball,? coach Jill Raschiatore said. "She plays like a much more experienced player. She "owns" the backcourt." Fairchild finished with 385 digs, 194 service points (278 attempts, 18 errors) and 25 aces.

Special Mention: Megan Bryn, 5-8 OH, Stone Bridge (Ashburn, Virginia) -- Bryn was second on the team in digs and first in serving accuracy. Bryn helped her team reach the state semifinals.?Megan is a very smart hitter who sees the block well and is capable of going around it," coach Jill Raschiatore said. "She rarely gets blocked. She will mix up hard hits with tips or roll-shots - whatever the defense gives her. Megan is an excellent passer who reads hitters well. She is a competitive player and a leader on the court." An All-District Second-Team pick, she finished with 145 kills (37 errors), 303 digs and 17 aces (333 service attempts, 10 errors).

Special Mention: Madeline Fowler, 6-1 OH, Heritage (Leesburg, Virginia) -- Fowler was an all-district second-team choice and earned the school?s sportsmanship award. Fowler had 232 kills, hit .338 (.436 kill percentage) and served 36 aces. Fowler was set 531 times. Fowler helped Heritage to a 23-4 mark (15-2 in conference play).

Honorable Mention: Libby Haslett, 5-10 MB, Stone Bridge (Ashburn, Virginia) -- Haslett was the team?s top middle and usually went against older and more experienced players. Haslett led the team to a 28-3 mark and a state semifinal trip. She was an all-district honorable mention selection and was a district and region all-tournament pick. "Libby has a great vertical which allows her to compete with much taller middles," coach Jill Raschiatore said. "She has a fast arm swing and is a smart hitter." Haslett finished the year with 184 kills, 45 digs, 39 solo blocks, 37 assisted blocks and 70 service points.

Honorable Mention: Maggie Phillips, 5-11 OH, Loudoun County (Leesburg, Virginia) -- Phillips led her team in kills, hit .309 and served at a 95 percent clip. She earned second-team all-district honors for a Loudoun Co. team that reached the state semifinals. She finished the year with 129 kills, 22 digs and 20 blocks.
