Purcellville (May 25, 2012) - Woodgrove High School's girls soccer team scored two first-half goals on their way to finishing off the Dulles Double of winning the district's season and tournament titles with a 2-0 home victory against Loudoun County May 24 in the tournament final.
Juniors Brittany Basinger and Ashley Bonner each netted goals in the first half to give the Wolverines (18-0-1) a 2-0 lead at halftime. A flash of lightning during halftime led to a weather delay that lasted approximately 70 minutes before the game was called and ruled official.
The second-year Wolverines have won 17 straight games since a scoreless draw against Briar Woods in the second game of the season March 15. Woodgrove posted wins against Loudoun Valley, 5-0, and Briar Woods, 3-2, to reach the tournament final.
The Raiders, who placed second in the Dulles season standings, defeated Tuscarora, 2-0, and Dominion, 1-0, to advance to Thursday's championship game. All three of Loudoun County's losses this spring have come against Woodgrove. The Raiders are 14-0-2 against teams other than the Wolverines.
Both teams have qualified for the Region II soccer tournament, which begins May 28.
