Boys Lacrosse: Dominion Downs Undefeated Kettle Run, 14-9, in AA Northern Sectional Semifinals

(May 26, 2012) - It took three nights, amid weather delays, to finally finish the game but the Dominion High School boys lacrosse team downed undefeated Kettle Run Friday, 14-9, in the AA Northern Sectional semifinals. The Titans (13-6) qualify for the state tournament with the win, but first they will host Woodgrove on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the sectional finals.


After numerous weather delays the Titans finally got a chance to show their depth and determination as they traveled to Vint Hill to take on previously unbeaten Kettle Run. With several key players out from a tough battle with Briar Woods in the Dulles District championship game, the Titans needed to rely on their depth to fill in the gaps and display their gritty determination.

And grit is what the 2012 Titans are made of.

It was a career night for Titan junior Face Off Middie Matty Reynolds as the stand out hockey player was able to apply those skills on the lacrosse field. Reynolds with the aid of senior long poles, Troy Farmer (Stevenson) and Derek Bullock (Lynchburg) owned the face-offs capturing 19 of 25 for the evening.

Senior middies Evan Wright and Eric Carlson (2 goals each) continue to show their leadership down the playoff stretch and helped control the mid field. Standout junior attack Brett Bushman (Top 5 in the Metro area in Total Points) added 3 goals and sophomore attack Ben Tarrant had a career night with 4 goals and a assist. 

After a seesaw first half with Dominion holding a narrow lead, Kettle Run was finally able to take the it's first lead at 7-6 midway through the third period. But it was short lived as Reynolds won the ensuing face-off, dished off to Bushman and he took no time at all to rifle one past the Kettle Run goalie. The tying play took all of 5 seconds.

A few minutes later with the score tied at 8-8, Wright and Farmer provided Dominion with Sports Center quality goals and Bushman added one more from the left side and the Titans dominated play from there on out.

Dominion goalie Christian Renick was clutch, hauling in 10 saves, as he continues two months of solid play in the net and the Titans dominated in ground balls with a 44-20 advantage controlling the ball.
