Tuscarora beat Loudoun County head up two weeks ago. How are they rated ahead?
ReplyDeleteGlad you asked as we did the math over the weekend ... VHSL ratings are strictly based on a set formula (no human input or opinion) ... Win vs. AAA opponent (24 points), AA opp. (20) and A opp. (16). Losses against AAA (12), AA (8) and A (4). Teams then get bonus points for every win their opponent registers ... 2 bonus points if they beat the opponent and 1 point if they lost to the opponent ...
ReplyDeleteLoudoun County is getting a boost by scheduling AAA Freedom and beating the Eagles (24 points) and then they have 4 bonus points from Freedom's 2 wins ... Tuscarora on the other hand will not get a lot of extra points from its win over winless Brentsville (20 for the win and zero bonus ... And finally, County's win over Woodgrove Friday was a haul of 30 points (20 for the win plus 10 bonus for WG's 5 wins) ...
Currently County has 118 total points to Tuscarora's 112 ... Thus Raiders are ranked higher and would get a higher seed in playoffs if they remain in same position ...
can't stand how they do the playoffs in this state. I think it's bufoonery. I know next year they are going to 6 classes to avoid confusion. That s a step in the right direction. It doesn't make sense that teams play in the same conference and then break up in to different groups during the playoffs. Alos, it's too bad we won't see a Kettle Run vs. Briar Woods playoff game. That would be worth double price of the admission. Watching McSorley and Briar Woods go up against Kettle Run and Josh Tapscott would've been an "off the hook " match up.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous - the real match up we should see is Briar Woods v. Stone Bridge - or Briar Woods v. any division 6 school. B-Who against Phoebus, anyone? With over 2,000 students, Briar Woods enjoys a significant advantage over the rest of Dulles District. Even with the realignment, Briar Woods will only be division 5. Seeing Briar Woods go against a school with 1,000 students isn't even interesting enough for the Briar Woods fan base to show up.
ReplyDeleteGood news is that the VHSL realignment will make it such that schools are closer in student population than every before as AA sized schools in Richmond and Virginia Beach will no longer be able to play up to AAA which threw off the divisions ... putting smaller schools in D5 and bumping down schools to D4 such as Briar Woods and making them much bigger than the lowest AA enrollments
