Football: Stone Bridge, Briar Woods, Loudoun County, Tuscarora All Top 10 in State Polls

(Oct. 30, 2012) - Four area football teams continued their Top 10 rankings in the AP state football polls with Stone Bridge High School No. 4 in AAA and Briar Woods No. 2 in AA. Both the Bulldogs and Falcons are 9-0 on the season.

Also ranked in AA were Loudoun County at No. 7 and Tuscarora at No. 9. Both the Raiders and Huskies are 8-1 on the season.


Region II, which makes up one of four regions in AA, claims 5 of the 10 top spots with unbeaten Western Albemarle at No. 6 and one-loss Warren County at No. 10.

Oscar Smith is No. 1 in AAA followed by  Hermitage and Westfield. Behind Stone Bridge are Ocean Lakes, Lake Taylor, Phoebus, Varina, Lloyd Bird and Salem-Virginia Beach.

Brookville, already done with the regular season at 10-0, is No. 1 in AA. Behind Briar Woods are James Monroe, Salem (Salem) and Heritage (Lynchburg). Amherst County is No. 8.

Essex leads the A poll followed by Clintwood, Franklin, Wilson Memorial, Strasburg, Riverheads, Giles, King William, Dan River and Honaker and Sussex Central in tie for 10th.
