News: Loudoun County Sheriff's Office Unveils New Website

(Oct. 18, 2012) - The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office unveiled their new website this week. The website offers several innovative and interactive features in an effort to improve outreach and communication with the community. The improved website was one of Loudoun Sheriff Michael L. Chapman's goals to deliver Service, Technology, Efficiency, and Professionalism (STEP-UP) to the agency.


The website, located at sheriff.loudoun.gov, now offers Loudoun County residents the ability to report certain types of crimes online and at their convenience. The reportable online crime types include larceny from vehicles, identity theft, and vandalism. The online crime reporting system should not be used in cases where it is an emergency or if the crime is in progress or just occurred.

The website also features a Community Resource Directory enabling Loudoun County residents to find community resources for health and human services. "This database offers a wealth of information and will allow residents to easily find the resources they need for help," said Sheriff Mike Chapman.

Residents are also able to use a searchable mapping system to locate their nearest Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Station. This will enable residents to find the closest station that provides services such as fingerprinting, background checks or where they can obtain copies of accident reports. The mapping system also helps residents locate the station area and service sector in which they live, enabling users to better understand crime data released by the agency in daily and quarterly reports.

The agency continues to offer an online service allowing residents to view near real-time crime reporting information in their community. The crime reporting map is updated every night and provides residents with an interactive online mapping and analysis service to learn about the types of crimes committed in their community.

Future enhancements to the website will include a traffic incident mapping page using online mapping resources. The current page lists real-time information on traffic-related incidents dispatched by the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office Emergency Communications Center. The future site will also include traffic-related incidents worked by the Loudoun County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management. The page will be further developed to aide residents with their daily commutes.
