Baseball: Diamond Elite 13U Capture Old Bay Columbus Day Classic in Delaware

(Oct. 18, 2012) - The Diamond Elite 13U team continued to have success on the diamond this fall, winning the 13U Division Championship of the Old Bay Columbus Day Classic at Sports at the Beach in Delaware.

The Diamond Elite team went 5-2 over the course of the 3-day tournament and rattled off three victories on Monday to take the tournament championship, beating Fielders Choice Red by the score of 5-3 in the championship game. 

Even more impressive was the semifinal victory over the No. 1 seed and previously unbeaten, GoWags Heat 13U team from PA. The Heat had been won the past two tournaments they had played in. 

DE Catcher, Aidan Koferl (Ashburn, VA), was crowned tournament MVP by tournament officials for his solid performances behind the dish and at the plate all weekend, including a big 2-run home run in the championship game. 

The tournament saw huge contributions from all 12 members of the Diamond Elite squad and was truly a total team effort. The DE squad, managed by Shawn James, has had an impressive fall thus far winning two-thirds of the tournaments it has played in this fall and having only one loss in local NVTBL play.
