Basketball: Wed. Nov. 28 Scoreboard
(Nov. 29, 2012) - Dominion High School boys basketball opened the season 2-0 with a win Wednesday, Heritage girls nipped Freedom in non-district play and Champe girls were competitive in their first ever varsity game, a loss to Patriot:

Boys Basketball: TJ Senior Richard Kuzma of Leesburg to Play at Naval Academy
Kuzma chose Navy over MIT, West Point, Caltech and Southern California, where he had a National Merit Scholarship. Kuzma holds a 4.27 GPA and a 2340 out of 2400 SAT score.
On the basketball court, he holds TJ’s career, single-season and single-game scoring marks, including 35 and 37 point efforts. Kuzma, who has played four seasons with the Loudoun Triple Threat AAU team, is a two-time selection to the Liberty All District team and mainstay on the Washington Post area top 50 list for scoring, 3-point shooting and free throw percentage. Volleyball: Stone Bridge's Ryan Ackermann is Named Liberty District Player of the Year
Joining Ackermann on the first squad are teammates, senior Rachel Auerbach and sophomore Libero Sarah Fairchild. Stone Bridge sophomore Megan Bryn was named to the second team while sophomore Libby Haslett was Honorable Mention.

Soccer: Pick Six! Half Dozen More From Loudoun's Class of 2012 Make College Choices
Editor's note: We just updated this story with yet another soccer player headed to the college ranks!
(Aug. 25, 2011) - Area soccer clubs and the website TopDrawerSoccer.com are reporting that six more Loudoun-based soccer players from the Class of 2012 have made their college choices.
Megan Benitez of Briar Woods High School will play at George Mason; Jackie Dallaire, who lives in Sterling and plays at Thomas Jefferson High School, will play at Kentucky; Dani Dangremond of Broad Run High School will play at Florida Atlantic; Tabitha McHale of Woodgrove High School will play at UNC-Greensboro; and Jay Shoates of Potomac Falls High School, and Melanie Smith of Stone Bridge will both play at American.
While school has yet to start, a total of 39 athletes from our Class of 2012 are already headed for the college ranks!

Boys Soccer: Late First Half Goal Sends Stone Bridge to Regionals; Park View Takes Control of Dulles
(May 16, 2011) - The Stone Bridge High School boys soccer team secured a trip to the Northern Region tournament with a 1-0 win over Thomas Jefferson Monday in a Liberty District tournament quarterfinal that was suspended at halftime due to lightning.
In Dulles District action, Tuscarora and Park View waited out the weather with their game in Sterling not starting until 9:30 p.m. and the Patriots defeated the Huskies, 3-1, to take a 2-point lead over Broad Run with one game left in the regular season. Both Broad Run (13-1-1) Park View (14-1-0) have Dominion left on their schedules. The Patriots will clinch the regular season title with a win over the Titans or can assure themselves of at least a co-championship with a tie.
While Tuscarora had several nice early chances, Park View took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute on a goal by Geo Hernandez. Park View looked to take firm control just before half on a nice finish by Jose Miguel Herrera on a pinpoint pass from Franklin Castro.
The Huskies, however, struck in the final 10 seconds of the half on a incredible shot by Armando Garzon.
Park View added the insurance in the second half as Anson Rosenthal celebrated Senior Night with a goal.
In Ashburn, the Bulldogs goal came with less than 30 seconds to play in the first half as Michael Morningstar scored off a throw-in from Tommy Dunne. The game had to be suspended at half time as a storm moved into the Ashburn area. The officials waited until after 9 p.m. for the storms to pass but lighting was still being seen in and around the area so the game was suspended and according to the VHSL game rules considered an official game.
With the win the Bulldogs record now stands at 8-1-4 on the year -- the only loss was to TJ -- and Abe Yoslov picked up his 8th shutout on the season. The Bulldogs will wait until Tuesday for the results of the McLean and South Lakes game. The winner will play Stone Bridge at Fairfax HS at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18.
This marks the 7th year in a row that the Stone Bridge boy's team has qualified for their respective regional soccer tournament. Last year the Bulldogs won the Northern Region tournament.

Volleyball: Beckham, Miller and Christensen Make First-Team All-Liberty District
(Nov. 1, 2010) - Christine Beckham, Amanda Miller and Amy Christensen were all named All-Liberty District first team in a vote of the district's volleyball coaches last week.
Langley's Kathryn Caine was named the Player of the Year and Thomas Jefferson's Charlee Johnson earned Coach of the Year.
Stone Bridge's Ryan Ackermann and Vanessa Paige were selected to the second team.

Girls Soccer: Stone Bridge Sweeps Liberty District Honors - Skogerboe Player of the Year, Windows Coach of the Year
(May 17, 2010) - Stone Bridge High School finished the Liberty District girls soccer season unbeaten and the Bulldogs were rewarded wtih senior Jennifer Skogerboe being named Player of the Year and Bulldog coach Joan Windows was named Coach of the Year.
Besides Skogerboe, four other Bulldogs were named first team.

Lacrosse: Liberty District Tournament Opens Tonight
(May 6, 2010) - The AAA Liberty District boys and girls lacrosse tournaments open tonight with the top three schools -- Langley, Madison and Stone Bridge -- all hosting doubleheaders at 5 and 7 p.m.
The No. 3 Bulldog girls host No. 6 McLean in the opener followed by the No. 3 SB boys hosting No. 6 TJ.

Gymnastics: Stone Bridge Defends Liberty District Title, Fissmer Captures All-Around

Ashburn (Feb. 3, 2010) - The Stone Bridge High School gymnastics team just didn't repeat their AAA Liberty title Monday night they ended it with an overpowering display on the floor with All-Around champion Amy Fissmer leading a charge to the podium with five Bulldogs finishing in the top six in the event.
When it was all said and done the Bulldogs had scored a team record 141.900 points to take the title with Fissmer scoring 35.950 for the All-Around crown and teammate Tori Severin third at 34.925.
Stone Bridge's depth was evident, especially on the floor where Fissmer scored 9.300 to win and teammates Kelly McCabe and Casey Merwin tied for third at 9.225 followed by Severin in fifth with a 9.100 and Bulldog Chelsea Fonseca in sixth with a 9.000.
Severin, out for a month with an ankle injury, took the vault with an 8.950 and Fissmer was third at 8.800.
The bars were won by TJ's Marisa Katoaka with an 8.900. Severin was runner-up at 8.775 and Fissmer fourth.
Caitie Simpson of Langley won the beam with an 9.300. Fissmer was second at 9.150 and Bulldog Tricia Grywatch was third with a 9.000.

Swim: Madison Sweeps Shortened Liberty District Meet, Stone Bridge Struggles
(Feb. 1, 2010) - The AAA Liberty District swim meet was cut short due to the snowstorm over the weekend so that the prelim times swam on Friday night stood as final times. Madison boys and girls swept the meet with Langley runner-up in the girls and Fairfax on the boys side.
Stone Bridge, which always has trouble scoring in postseason meets because the Bulldogs are not allowed by Loudoun to field a dive team, struggled with a seventh place finish on the girls side and 8th for the boys.
A bright spot for SB was the girls 200 free relay which took third with a regional cut time of 1:42.92. Apple Pollock, Haley Springman, Paige Haynes and Dani DeGooyer teamed in that event.

PF improves to 2-0 and 5-2 while BR slips to 1-1 and 4-2.
Rebecca Perez added nine points for the Panthers and 11 rebounds and Jasmine Jeffries grabbed nine rebounds.
Morgan Roehling led the Spartans with 10 points and seven rebounds.

In front of many former great Loudoun County High School players, including five from the 2006 team that posted a school best 29-2 record, the Raiders rolled over the visiting Patriots by a score of 71-22.
County jumped out to a 22-7 first quarter advantage as senior Alissa Kain scored 12 points. Then, junior Brittany Batts scored 10 second quarter points as County led 47-14 at halftime. Kain and Batts both scored 18 points each in that first half.
Kain would finish with a team high 24 points while Batts scored 21 points and dished out six assists.
Senior Kendra Holmes, playing point guard for the Raiders, finished with seven points, 10 rebounds, and six assists.
All 11 players for County contributed in the win for County as the Lady Raiders improve to 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in Dulles District play.
Chloe Owens led the Patriots with eight points.

Boys Basketball: Friday Night Round-up - Briar Woods Takes Titans; SB Doubles TJ; Park View Over Loudoun County; Freedom Falls to GM

The Bulldogs opened AAA Liberty District play by doubling up on TJ Friday. Richie Berry and Nik Brown combined for 29 for SB.
Leading 29-20 at the half, the Bulldogs opened up the third quarter on a 11-0 run and never looked back, out-scoring the Colonials, 24-8, in the stanza.
SB (1-0, 3-2) defensive pressure caused a lot of turnovers and led to easy transition points. Jimmy Paige and Philip Nowakowski were big on the boards for the Bulldogs, picking up 10 and 8, respectively.
For the fourth straight game, Brown drew at least one charge on defense. James Wells and Berry each recorded four steals and forward Sam Tripp had two blocks and altered numerous shots. Nowakowski shut down TJ's big man, who only registered one field goal on the night.

Super sophomore Myles Tate scored 12 of his game-high 26 points in the final quarter, including 10 of 12 from the foul line. Briar Woods improves to 1-2 and 4-3.
Andre Evans and DeAndre Reaves combined for 21 points for Dominion (1-2, 1-6), and scored 13 of Dominion's 17 points in the final quarter.

The Bulldogs opened AAA Liberty District play by doubling up on TJ Friday. Richie Berry and Nik Brown combined for 29 for SB.
Leading 29-20 at the half, the Bulldogs opened up the third quarter on a 11-0 run and never looked back, out-scoring the Colonials, 24-8, in the stanza.
SB (1-0, 3-2) defensive pressure caused a lot of turnovers and led to easy transition points. Jimmy Paige and Philip Nowakowski were big on the boards for the Bulldogs, picking up 10 and 8, respectively.
For the fourth straight game, Brown drew at least one charge on defense. James Wells and Berry each recorded four steals and forward Sam Tripp had two blocks and altered numerous shots. Nowakowski shut down TJ's big man, who only registered one field goal on the night.

For the second straight year the Falcons knocked off the Titans in Dulles District play.
Super sophomore Myles Tate scored 12 of his game-high 26 points in the final quarter, including 10 of 12 from the foul line. Briar Woods improves to 1-2 and 4-3.
Andre Evans and DeAndre Reaves combined for 21 points for Dominion (1-2, 1-6), and scored 13 of Dominion's 17 points in the final quarter.

Freedom is now 2-6 overall. Brian Orr led Freedom with 12 points and Taylor Barton scored 10.
Park View 64, Loudoun County 54
Ryan McCarter scored 36 points, including six 3-pointers as the Patriots opened Dulles District play with a 10-point win over the Raiders.
Park View is now 1-1 and 3-3 while Loudoun County falls to 1-2 and 3-4.
J.R. Shooks added 10 points for PV. Mahir Mrkonjic led LC with 12 points.
