Girls Volleyball: Stone Bridge Matches at Marshall Postponed Due to Water Leak
(Oct. 2, 2012) - You don't get many rainouts in girls volleyball but the Stone Bridge High School varsity, JV and freshman matches slated for Marshall High School tonight have been postponed to a Oct. 16 due to a water leak at the school.

Volleyball: Stone Bridge's Ryan Ackermann is Named Liberty District Player of the Year
Joining Ackermann on the first squad are teammates, senior Rachel Auerbach and sophomore Libero Sarah Fairchild. Stone Bridge sophomore Megan Bryn was named to the second team while sophomore Libby Haslett was Honorable Mention.

Baseball: Cheers/DST Wood Bat Tournament Moved to Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
(Apr. 17, 2011) - The 2011 Cheers/DST Wood Bat Tournament has been moved to Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this coming week due to Saturday's rain.
On Monday and Tuesday at Broad Run High School pool play will take place between Broad Run, Marshall, George Mason, and Heritage.
On Monday and Tuesday at Park View High School pool play will take place between Park View, Liberty, Briar Woods, and Bishop O'Connell.
On Wednesday, the brackets will "cross over" and all games will be played at Park View for 7th place, 5th place, 3rd place, and the tournament championship.
The administration, coaching staffs, and players from Broad Run and Park View would like to thank Denny Petrella and Joe Donatello from Cheers Sports and John Lechler and Jason Bagby from DST for making an event like this possible. Without their resources, a tournament like this would not be possible

Football: Marshall is Next Stop for Reaves and His Record-Breaking Career

Reaves originally was verbally committed to West Virginia University but changed his mind in the fall, especially after their was some turmoil on the Mountaineers coaching staff -- a new offensive coordinator took over and three other new offensive staff members were hired.
"Switching was because of the coaching staff getting fired and Marshall being a better fit for me and the family," commented Reaves. "Nothing personal, I just needed to find tht right spot for the next four years."
Reaves was the Dulles District Offensive Player of the Year in 2010 as he rushed for 1,780 yards and scored 31 touchdowns. He also was named first team All-Region II and first team All-Group AA.
Reaves is the Titans career rushing leader with 5,120 yards. He led Dominion to its first playoff appearance in 2010 and gained 241 yards with three touchdowns during a 29-26 loss to Warren County.

Football: Dominion All-State Running Back Reaves Shifts Gears from West Virginia to Marshall for College Choice
Sterling (Jan. 31, 2011) - Deandre Reaves will be signing his National Letter of Intent this Wednesday in a ceremony in the Dominion High School media center at 3:45 p.m. but the Associated Press Group AA first team all-state running back will be playing at Marshall University next year and not West Virginia as previously announced in August.

Volleyball: Beckham, Miller and Christensen Make First-Team All-Liberty District
(Nov. 1, 2010) - Christine Beckham, Amanda Miller and Amy Christensen were all named All-Liberty District first team in a vote of the district's volleyball coaches last week.
Langley's Kathryn Caine was named the Player of the Year and Thomas Jefferson's Charlee Johnson earned Coach of the Year.
Stone Bridge's Ryan Ackermann and Vanessa Paige were selected to the second team.

Football: Marshall Plan Doesn't Work as Top-ranked Stone Bridge Crushes Statesmen, 63-7

(Oct. 4, 2010) - The top-ranked Stone Bridge High School football team traveled to George C. Marshall High School in Falls Church Friday for a Liberty District contest and like previous visits to Jimmy Miller Stadium, the evening prove very successful for the Bulldogs as they scored early and often enroute to a 63-7 victory.
Stone Bridge, ranked No. 1 in the D.C. Metro area by the Washington Post, scored 21 points in the first quarter, and tacked on another 28 in the second, to take a 49-0 lead into halftime. Marcus Harris ran for 100 yards and three TDs on just 10 carries, his fifth consecutive 100-yard game this season. Other rushing TDs were scored by Brian Rody (30 yards) and Warren Miles (1 yard).

Football: Stone Bridge Moves Freshman/JV Games to Marshall's Turf Field

Softball: 2010 All-Liberty District Softball Selections
(May 19, 2010) - The Liberty District softball coaches voted on their all-district selections last night and Stone Bridge had four second team selections including a pair of freshmen, second base Niki Prince and outfielder Sydney Broderick.

Girls Soccer: Stone Bridge Sweeps Liberty District Honors - Skogerboe Player of the Year, Windows Coach of the Year
(May 17, 2010) - Stone Bridge High School finished the Liberty District girls soccer season unbeaten and the Bulldogs were rewarded wtih senior Jennifer Skogerboe being named Player of the Year and Bulldog coach Joan Windows was named Coach of the Year.
Besides Skogerboe, four other Bulldogs were named first team.

Baseball Round-up May 13: Broad Run Works 10 for Win Over Freedom; Briar Woods, Potomac Falls, Stone Bridge All Win
(May 14, 2010) - With less than a week to go in the regular season the Dulles District title is already wrapped up by Potomac Falls High School but other teams are jockeying for playoff position and Thursday night second place Broad Run needed 10 innings to beat Freedom, 2-1, and maintain its two-game advantage over Briar Woods in the loss column.
The Spartans (8-2 in district, 13-4) meet the Falcons (7-4, 8-9) tonight in "downtown Brambleton" with Briar Woods needing a win and then a Broad Run loss to Loudoun County next Tuesday to force a tie and coin flip for the tournament's second seed.
Briar Woods took care of Park View (3-7, 5-11) Thursday, 4-3. Potomac Falls (10-0, 16-2) beat Heritage, 4-3, in non-district play. Pride fall to 7-9 overall.
In AAA Liberty District play, Stone Bridge shut out Marshall, 6-0. The Bulldogs (9-4, 14-5) host regular-season district champion McLean (13-0, 17-2) tonight to finish the regular season with Senior Night and a special ceremony to retire the jersey of late assistant coach James Timbers, who passed away prior to the start of the season after a fight with cancer.

Lacrosse: Liberty District Tournament Opens Tonight
(May 6, 2010) - The AAA Liberty District boys and girls lacrosse tournaments open tonight with the top three schools -- Langley, Madison and Stone Bridge -- all hosting doubleheaders at 5 and 7 p.m.
The No. 3 Bulldog girls host No. 6 McLean in the opener followed by the No. 3 SB boys hosting No. 6 TJ.

Gymnastics: Stone Bridge Defends Liberty District Title, Fissmer Captures All-Around

Ashburn (Feb. 3, 2010) - The Stone Bridge High School gymnastics team just didn't repeat their AAA Liberty title Monday night they ended it with an overpowering display on the floor with All-Around champion Amy Fissmer leading a charge to the podium with five Bulldogs finishing in the top six in the event.
When it was all said and done the Bulldogs had scored a team record 141.900 points to take the title with Fissmer scoring 35.950 for the All-Around crown and teammate Tori Severin third at 34.925.
Stone Bridge's depth was evident, especially on the floor where Fissmer scored 9.300 to win and teammates Kelly McCabe and Casey Merwin tied for third at 9.225 followed by Severin in fifth with a 9.100 and Bulldog Chelsea Fonseca in sixth with a 9.000.
Severin, out for a month with an ankle injury, took the vault with an 8.950 and Fissmer was third at 8.800.
The bars were won by TJ's Marisa Katoaka with an 8.900. Severin was runner-up at 8.775 and Fissmer fourth.
Caitie Simpson of Langley won the beam with an 9.300. Fissmer was second at 9.150 and Bulldog Tricia Grywatch was third with a 9.000.

Swim: Madison Sweeps Shortened Liberty District Meet, Stone Bridge Struggles
(Feb. 1, 2010) - The AAA Liberty District swim meet was cut short due to the snowstorm over the weekend so that the prelim times swam on Friday night stood as final times. Madison boys and girls swept the meet with Langley runner-up in the girls and Fairfax on the boys side.
Stone Bridge, which always has trouble scoring in postseason meets because the Bulldogs are not allowed by Loudoun to field a dive team, struggled with a seventh place finish on the girls side and 8th for the boys.
A bright spot for SB was the girls 200 free relay which took third with a regional cut time of 1:42.92. Apple Pollock, Haley Springman, Paige Haynes and Dani DeGooyer teamed in that event.

Basketball: Tuesday Night Scoreboad and The Skinny

(Jan. 20, 2010) - AAA teams took the spotlight Tuesday and Loudoun Valley boys and girls swept Heritage in Cedar Run action while the Stone Bridge boys and girls were swept by Marshall in Liberty District play. And in non-district action, the top AA girls team in the state, Freedom, fell to D.C. area power Riverdale Baptist.

The Statemen hit eight 3-pointers in the win. SB was held to 29 total rebounds. Nik Brown led SB with 25 and Richie Berry added 18.

Vikes coach Jen Piccolomini said that her team used "multiple defenses, and an attacking offense to get the win. Defensive pressure by Lisa Beksel kept the Pride’s point guards at bay."
And Owen Gotimer reported for VivaLoudoun from the game: "Valley's Kayla Sweet came out shooting hot, scoring eight in the first quarter. She, along with her fellow Vikings, went into the second quarter up 15-9.
Loudoun Valley's Chrystal Oden and Heritage's Erika Grabbi both matched Sweet's first quarter scoring with eight each in the second, as the Vikings went into half time up 31-22.
The Pride played their strongest quarter (the 3rd) of the game so far coming out of halftime, but still trailed Valley 42-35 going into the fourth. For the third consecutive Cedar Run contest the Pride fell short, losing 43-56.
As Heritage's head coach Anthony Long said after the game, "You have to play all four quarters."
Analysis of Heritage by Gotimer: For the second straight game Heritage went in, heads held high, expecting to be part of a competitive game, but once again they missed on their scoring opportunities. This, along with Valley's tremendous driving, sneaky back door cuts, and well-organized paint-centered offense, is what led to the seemingly one-sided battle. If Heritage can string together four straight solid quarters, they could have a shot at second place in the Cedar Run District.
