Competitive Cheer: Stone Bridge Second at Northern Region Meet
(Nov. 6, 2011) - The Stone Bridge High School competitive cheer squad took second on Saturday Night at Fairfax High School. The host Rebels won the event with Herndon and West Springfield also placing in the Top 4 to move onto Saturday's AAA meet at VCU in Richmond.

Football: Stone Bridge Stands Alone in Liberty for 7th Straight Year with 39-8 Win at Farirfax
(Nov. 5, 2011) - Stephen Trivieri rushed for 123 yards and four touchdowns Friday to lead Stone Bridge High School to a 39-8 win at Fairfax. The victory wrapped up the Bulldogs 7th consecutive AAA Liberty District football title as Stone Bridge finishes the regular season with an unbeaten 7-0 district mark and 9-1 overall record.
Unofficially, the win over Fairfax (6-4, 4-3) may be enough to put the Bulldogs into the top seed for the Northern Region Division 5 playoffs. Official pairings will be released late Sunday.

Volleyball: Stone Bridge's Ryan Ackermann is Named Liberty District Player of the Year
Joining Ackermann on the first squad are teammates, senior Rachel Auerbach and sophomore Libero Sarah Fairchild. Stone Bridge sophomore Megan Bryn was named to the second team while sophomore Libby Haslett was Honorable Mention.

Girls Soccer: Threat of Weather Shifts Second Liberty Semifinal to Marshall
(May 18, 2011) - The threat of severe thunderstorms tonight has shifted the second Liberty District tournament girls soccer semifinal from Stone Bridge High School to an earlier start at Marshall High School.
Stone Bridge will still host Fairfax at 5 p.m. but the Madison vs. McLean contest will now be played at 6 p.m. at Marshall. All-district presentation will now take place between the girls and boys soccer finals on Friday at McLean High School.

Basketball: Stone Bridge Girls, Potomac Falls Boys Both Improve to 12-1 with Key District Wins; Complete Skinny on All the Action Wednesday

(Jan. 13, 2011) - On a very chilly January Wednesday evening the district boys and girls basketball races heated up with key contests at the top and in the pack.
Both the Stone Bridge girls and Potomac Falls boys improved to area-best 12-1 on the season with the Lady Bulldogs blitzing Fairfax, 59-37, to forge a 3-way tie atop of the Liberty District and the Panthers holding off short-handed Briar Woods, 63-54, to remain one game ahead of Broad Run in the Dulles District.
"Our best performance by far all year," said Stone Bridge coach Chris Jones after the win where the Bulldogs shocked the Rebels -- previously unbeaten in district -- 21-2 first-half lead.

In other action, two teams on a roll continued to move up in the standings as the Loudoun County boys improved to 5-3 in the Dulles District with a 59-44 win over Woodgrove, moving the Raiders into a virtual 3-way tie for third place with Briar Woods and Park View; and the Briar Woods girls knocked off Potomac Falls, 54-46, to throw the Dulles District race into a nearly level playing field behind co-leaders Freedom and Loudoun County -- a 47-32 winner over Woodgrove Wednesday -- with four teams tied for third -- Briar Woods, Broad Run, Park View, Potomac Falls -- and the three remaining teams just a game back -- Dominion, Tuscarora and Woodgrove.

The Skinny: The Bulldogs executed their gameplan to perfection, jumping out to a 21-2 lead early in the second quarter and never threatened after that.
Super sophomore Murielle Tiernan scored 10 of her team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter as she was a force inside. It was a balanced Bulldog attack with five other players scoring seven or more points in the blowout -- senior Kayleigh Guzek (9 points), sophomore Nicole Prince (8), freshman Megan Della-Penna (8), senior Cori Prince (7) and senior Hannah Beth Whitaker (7).
Stone Bridge's active defense frustrated the Rebels 6-foot-1 junior Liz McNaughton as she went scoreless during the Bulldogs opening run and she had just four points at the half before finishing with a team-high 18. Fairfax's leading scorer, 6-foot-2 Meredith Mesaris, who came in averaging 20 points game was equally quited as she had just a single basket in each of the first three quarters and finished with 10.
The Bulldogs utilized their quickness to force turnovers and to break the Rebels the fullcourt press with ease with several halfcourt passes leading to easy layins. In the Bulldogs halfcourt set, Stone Bridge busted Fairfax's zone with two 3-pointers by Cori Prince in the second quarter and time after time made the extra pass for an easier look at the basket.
Fairfax came in 4-0 in district and the Stone Bridge win left both teams and Madison all 4-1 in the Liberty.

Alex Lapple (16 points), Brittany Batts (12 points) and Maggie Phillips (10 points) all scored in double digits for the Raiders who are 7-1 and 10-4.
Improving Woodgrove (2-5, 3-9) got 14 points and nine rebounds from Sarah Hardison, who was out the first part of the season as the Wolverines opened 1-5. Woodgrove is 2-4 with Hardison.

The Skinny: Logan Ballard scored 19 points and Ashley O'Neill added 17 as the Falcons won for the fourth time in five games and for the third straight time in the Dulles District, a streak that started with an upset win over two-time state champion Freedom.
The Falcons are now .500 on the season at 4-4 in district and 7-7 overall after opening the year 1-4 and 3-6
Potomac Falls, meanwhile, has dropped three straight and four of five to fall to 4-4 and 5-8.
Panther coach Lynn Ewald reports that the Panthers were held t four points in the opening quarter and just five in the third. "(We) did well in the other two quarters, finishing the game strong with 22 points ... had to foul late to try and get back into and Ballard for BW did a great job knocking down her free throws. We were led by Kayla Guttridge with 15 and Patricia Mook with 14.

Brendon Chesson scored a team-high 18 points for the Panthers while Lukas Mihailovich was held to a season-low nine points (which he also scored Saturday in the Panthers loss at Osbourn). Also for PFalls - Pete Simoneau scored nine while Greg Graves and Mickey Waggenhoffer both added eight points.
Andre Evans sank five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 22 points for BWoods. Curtis Calder added nine for the Falcons and Matt Rolin scored eight. Yves Kouame scored seven and dished our four assist for the Falcons.
The Panthers struggled from the foul line, going 13 of 26 while BWoods was 12 of 16.

Competitive Cheer: Briar Woods Repeats as Region II Champ, Broad Run Runner-up; Stone Bridge 3rd in Northern Region

Stone Bridge, defending Northern Region champion, had to settle for third Saturday, but the Bulldogs will move onto the AAA state meet where they were runner-up last year.
Herndon was a surprise winner Saturday at the Northern Region meet with AAA defending state champion Fairfax runner-up. Chantilly also advance to States as fourth place.
Also moving on from Region II are third place James Wood and fourth place Sherando.

Volleyball: Beckham, Miller and Christensen Make First-Team All-Liberty District
(Nov. 1, 2010) - Christine Beckham, Amanda Miller and Amy Christensen were all named All-Liberty District first team in a vote of the district's volleyball coaches last week.
Langley's Kathryn Caine was named the Player of the Year and Thomas Jefferson's Charlee Johnson earned Coach of the Year.

Competitive Cheer: Fairfax Wins Liberty District Meet with Stone Bridge Runner-up
(Oct. 27, 2010) - Host Fairfax High School, the reigning VHSL AAA state champion, captured the Liberty District title Tuesday night with 4-time state champion Stone Bridge runner-up. The Rebels win ended Stone Bridge's bid for a third straight title and fifth Liberty title in six years.
Both teams move onto the regional meet with the semifinals Oct. 30 and the finals on Nov. 6.
Stone Bridge captured the district and Northern Region titles last year before being edged by Fairfax in the state finals.

Football: Stone Bridge Shuts Down the Rebels, 56-0
Ashburn (Oct. 9, 2010) - The Stone Bridge High School offense and defense continue to impress as the Bulldogs blanked Fairfax, 56-0, to improve to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in the AAA Liberty District.
On offense, Stone Bridge is now averaging 46.7 points per game on the season and a whopping 54.6 points per game since opening the year with a 7-3 win over Westfield. On defense, the Bulldogs are just allowing 3.8 points per game and the first defense has allowed just three points on the year.
On Friday, Brian Rody threw first-half touchdowns, one to Kyle Gouveia and the other to Sean Bell, and ran one in as SB took a 35-0 lead to the half. Marcus Harris churned for 163 yards on 21 carries and score three times.
Fairfax managed just two first downs the entire game and Stone Bridge out-gained the Rebels, 424 to 41 in total yards. The Bulldog defense forced four turnovers with Dexter Rogers picking off two passes and Gouveia and Rob Burns recovering fumbles.

Girls Soccer: Stone Bridge Sweeps Liberty District Honors - Skogerboe Player of the Year, Windows Coach of the Year
(May 17, 2010) - Stone Bridge High School finished the Liberty District girls soccer season unbeaten and the Bulldogs were rewarded wtih senior Jennifer Skogerboe being named Player of the Year and Bulldog coach Joan Windows was named Coach of the Year.
Besides Skogerboe, four other Bulldogs were named first team.

Lacrosse: Liberty District Tournament Opens Tonight
(May 6, 2010) - The AAA Liberty District boys and girls lacrosse tournaments open tonight with the top three schools -- Langley, Madison and Stone Bridge -- all hosting doubleheaders at 5 and 7 p.m.

Liberty District Basketball: Coach of Year Jones Sees His Girls Advance; Player of the Year Brown, Bulldogs Hopes Dashed with 1.4 Seconds Left

Ashburn (Feb. 19, 2010) - Stone Bridge High School girls coach Chris Jones and junior Nik Brown picked up some nice honors this week with Jones being named the Liberty District Coach of the Year and Brown being honored as the boys Player of the Year. They came away from Thursday's district quarterfinal doubleheader at Stone Bridge with mixed emotions.
Jones saw his girls clinch a Northern Region bid after they overcame a slow start to defeat Fairfax, 53-45, but Brown and the Bulldogs saw their season come to a shocking end as McLean erased a 9-point fourth quarter deficit and then send the game into overtime when Gordon Rogo made three clutch free throws with 1.4 seconds left. The Highlanders then held SB without a field goal in the extra period to escape with the 70-67 upset.
For Stone Bridge, the hottest district team prior to the snowstorms including a win over district champ Langley, the season ends at 13-6 and a fifth straight year without a AAA regional appearance.
Girls Game: Stone Bridge 53, Fairfax 45
Bulldog freshman Murielle Tiernan had eight rebounds to go with her team-high 12 points in the win.
Sakai Williams, Maggie Schierling (defensively), and Kayleigh Guzek had strong all around games.
After trailing by seven early, SB picked up the tempo of the game and scored 25 second quarter points by forcing a number of turnovers.
Both teams tightened the defense in the third quarter. In the final quarter, after Fairfax closed the margin to four, Williams hit a big 3-pointer to change the momentum back to Stone Bridge's favor.
The Bulldogs then spread the court for the final two minutes and made 9 of 12 free throws late in the game to seal the win.

It was a fairly close game throughout with SB up 27-25 at halftime. McLean was very effective with their "triangle" stall game.
In the mid-fourth quarter, SB pushed the lead to nine points and forced McLean to get out of their zone.
The Bulldogs, however, did not execute very well down the stretch and let McLean tie the game up with 1.4 seconds left on three foul shots by Gordon Rogo after he was fouled behind the 3-point arc. Even though Rogo was just 2 of 7 from the line during the rest of the game, he calmly made all three, including the final shot to tie the game after SB had called time out to ice him.
Rogo's clutch shooting left it tied 61-61 heading into OT.
In overtime, all of SB points came from the foul line.

Gymnastics: Stone Bridge Defends Liberty District Title, Fissmer Captures All-Around

Ashburn (Feb. 3, 2010) - The Stone Bridge High School gymnastics team just didn't repeat their AAA Liberty title Monday night they ended it with an overpowering display on the floor with All-Around champion Amy Fissmer leading a charge to the podium with five Bulldogs finishing in the top six in the event.
When it was all said and done the Bulldogs had scored a team record 141.900 points to take the title with Fissmer scoring 35.950 for the All-Around crown and teammate Tori Severin third at 34.925.
Stone Bridge's depth was evident, especially on the floor where Fissmer scored 9.300 to win and teammates Kelly McCabe and Casey Merwin tied for third at 9.225 followed by Severin in fifth with a 9.100 and Bulldog Chelsea Fonseca in sixth with a 9.000.
Severin, out for a month with an ankle injury, took the vault with an 8.950 and Fissmer was third at 8.800.
The bars were won by TJ's Marisa Katoaka with an 8.900. Severin was runner-up at 8.775 and Fissmer fourth.
Caitie Simpson of Langley won the beam with an 9.300. Fissmer was second at 9.150 and Bulldog Tricia Grywatch was third with a 9.000.

Swim: Madison Sweeps Shortened Liberty District Meet, Stone Bridge Struggles
(Feb. 1, 2010) - The AAA Liberty District swim meet was cut short due to the snowstorm over the weekend so that the prelim times swam on Friday night stood as final times. Madison boys and girls swept the meet with Langley runner-up in the girls and Fairfax on the boys side.
Stone Bridge, which always has trouble scoring in postseason meets because the Bulldogs are not allowed by Loudoun to field a dive team, struggled with a seventh place finish on the girls side and 8th for the boys.
A bright spot for SB was the girls 200 free relay which took third with a regional cut time of 1:42.92. Apple Pollock, Haley Springman, Paige Haynes and Dani DeGooyer teamed in that event.
