Football: Local Players Square Off Against Each Other in NCAA Division II Playoffs This Weekend

(Nov. 14, 2012) - Four Loudoun athletes will take the field this Saturday -- three as key defensive players and one as an offensive starter -- in the NCAA Division II playoffs when Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) hosts Shepherd University.

Suiting up for IUP will be linebackers Joe Walter (Broad Run High School/Ashburn) and Alex Berdahl (Bishop O'Connell/Ashburn) and offensive right guard Mike Charmo (Loudoun Valley/Hamilton), and for Shepherd will be defensive linemen Robert Hayes (Park View/Sterling).

Baseball: Cheers/DST Wood Bat Tournament Moved to Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

(Apr. 17, 2011) - The 2011 Cheers/DST Wood Bat Tournament has been moved to Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this coming week due to Saturday's rain.

On Monday and Tuesday at Broad Run High School pool play will take place between Broad Run, Marshall, George Mason, and Heritage.

On Monday and Tuesday at Park View High School pool play will take place between Park View, Liberty, Briar Woods, and Bishop O'Connell.

On Wednesday, the brackets will "cross over" and all games will be played at Park View for 7th place, 5th place, 3rd place, and the tournament championship.

The administration, coaching staffs, and players from Broad Run and Park View would like to thank Denny Petrella and Joe Donatello from Cheers Sports and John Lechler and Jason Bagby from DST for making an event like this possible. Without their resources, a tournament like this would not be possible

College Signing: Ashburn's Alex Berdahl to Play at NCAA Division II IUP

(July 7, 2010) - It is never too late to get added to VivaLoudoun's exclusive college choice chart and we have added Bishop O'Connell High School standout Alex Berdahl who accepted an offer in the spring to play NCAA Division II Indiana University of Pennsylvania.


The Ashburn resident was a 3-year starter for the Arlington school and was selected first team linebacker for the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC). In addition, he was named first team linebacker for the Washington Post and the Arlington Sun-Gazette and was the Defensive Player of the Year for the Arlington Sun-Gazette.

Girls Soccer: Bishop O'Connell's Moriarty to Play at Syracuse

(Feb. 25, 2010) - Bishop O'Connell High School senior and Ashburn resident Jackie Moriarty will play soccer next year for Syracuse according to the Potomac Soccer Wire.

Moriarty has played club soccer with the Bethesda (Md) Dragons since 2006 and before that was with the RFC Rangers. She also played with the Virginia State ODP program from 2006 to 2008.

Girls Soccer: Dominion's Kimmy Ledwell Signs to Play at NCAA Division I South Carolina Upstate

(Feb. 25, 2010) - The University of South Carolina women's soccer coach Renee Lopez announced the signings of her class of 2010 on Feb. 19 and among the eight players are Dominion High School senior Kimmy Ledwell.

According to the USC Upstate release: Ledwell, a 5-4 combination player, has spent time at both the midfield and forward positions on her high school and club teams. Ledwell is a two-sport athlete at Dominion, where she has been part of the varsity swimming team all four years and she received the coaches' award after a strong junior campaign.
