(Feb. 25, 2010) - The University of South Carolina women's soccer coach Renee Lopez announced the signings of her class of 2010 on Feb. 19 and among the eight players are Dominion High School senior Kimmy Ledwell.
According to the USC Upstate release: Ledwell, a 5-4 combination player, has spent time at both the midfield and forward positions on her high school and club teams. Ledwell is a two-sport athlete at Dominion, where she has been part of the varsity swimming team all four years and she received the coaches' award after a strong junior campaign.
Ledwell is in a number of high school organizations, including the Future Educators of America, Odyssey of the Mind, PEER, Student Council Association, Latin Club and the Best Buddies Club. She is also a member of the National Honor Society. She plays club soccer with the Reston Futbol Club under the direction of Coach Mike Calabretta.
"Kimberly comes from the Reston FC, one of the top clubs in Virginia," said Lopez. "She is a multi-sport athlete and she has the drive and determination to succeed. Her vision on the field, complimented by her work ethic, will allow her to be an asset for our team either as a forward or a midfielder."
Ledwell joins another Loudoun player as Kim Anderson of Bishop O'Connell also signed as previously reported by VivaLoudoun.
Anderson, a 6-0 goalkeeper, was named third-team all-conference her junior season before earning first team all-conference and honorable mention all-region honors after her senior season. Anderson was also selected as the team's MVP at the conclusion of the 2009 season.
She was also a member of the basketball and lacrosse teams her first two years at Bishop O'Connell. The incoming Spartan is currently a member of the Chantilly Electrics club team.
"Kimberley will be a great asset for our goalkeeping line," Lopez said. "She is 6-0, can grab and deflect high shots, and has great distribution. She also isn't afraid to be a vocal leader on the pitch. I believe her work ethic will allow her to flourish in a strong training environment."
