News: VIP Baseball Selects Final Three Names for Minor League Team

Sterling (Feb. 15, 2010) – VIP Baseball announced the finalists in its “Name the Team” Contest and has opened up voting for the final decision on its website: http://www.vipbaseball.net.

Having culled through hundreds of names submitted by fans over the last two months, VIP Baseball narrowed down the three finalists to:

Dulles Blue Heron
Virginia Silver Stars
Loudoun Hounds

“VIP Baseball has been absolutely overwhelmed by the great names we’ve received from our growing fan base and we had a difficult time winnowing this list down to just three,” said Bob Farren VIP’s Managing Partner. “These names reflect some of the most popular submissions and reflect the team’s unique place in the area’s history and environment.”

More on Each Name:

Dulles Blue Heron – The ballpark and the overall Kincora project sits adjacent to a very important blue heron rookery. This popular name reflects the group’s dedication to preserving and enhancing the rookery and being in complete partnership with the amazing environment that surrounds the ballpark.

Virginia Silver Stars – The Silver Star is one of the nation’s highest military honors and this name reflects VIP Baseball’s commitment and support of our nation’s greatest defenders and heroes: our military. The Silver Star is awarded to a person who, while serving in any capacity with the U.S. Army, is cited for gallantry in action.

Loudoun Hounds – Loudoun County has an extensive and proud equine history and combined with dozens of submission of variations of hound-related names (i.e. Foxhounds, Redhounds, Hound Dogs) this was a perfect reflection of the County’s heritage. Additionally, the American Foxhound is the state dog of Virginia.

VIP Baseball welcomes the public to vote on one of these three names for the team by going to http://www.vipbaseball.net and submitting your choice online.

VIP Baseball will announce the final name later in the spring.

“Our goal is to continue to reach out to the community and get your input every step of the way,” said Farren. “Today’s final names bring us one step closer towards our goal of building this fantastic ballpark for the people of Loudoun County and all of Northern Virginia and bringing professional baseball to the region.”
