Belly Flop! Region II Swim Meet Cancelled and Season Ends for Most Dulles District Swimmers

(Feb. 14, 2010) - The weather has hurt all winter sports but none as much as Dulles District swimmers as the hard-working athletes first saw their district meet cancelled and now news that the Region II meet scheduled for Monday in Warrenton has been cancelled.

Fauquier Public Schools are not allowed to compete or host the event Monday due to the threat of more bad weather plus current road conditions and Kettle Run High School was slated to host.

Those athletes with state qualifying times will compete in AA State Championship at Old Dominion University on Feb. 19 and Feb. 20.

  1. this is absolutely ridiculous and completely unacceptable how every single other sport has been rescheduled but the swim meets are completely done away with. it just goes to show how little the ADs in loudoun care about swimming

  2. I understand the frustration and anger ... what a tough year for these swimmers especially if you are a senior and then there are those swimmers maybe just fractions of a second away from a State time that needed a district or regional race, which historically produce the best times of the year, to qualify for States. But in defense of the Athletic Directors, their hands have been really tied by the lack of pools in Loudoun (two venues total!) and the ability to get a block of time to hold the district meet at the last minute. District wrestling was so fortunate to be able to just move their meet to the Thursday prior to the first storm but swimming didn't have that luxury. My heart goes out to all the swimmer affected by these cancellations ...

  3. As a taxpayer, I am extremely disappointed that Loudoun County's public swim facility, Claude Moore, could not "find" pool time for the High School District swim meet. During the past ten days they have managed to allow multiple practices at their site by private swim clubs (SNOW and Curl Burke), many of whose members live outside Loudoun County but Claude Moore could not manage to find ONE afternoon or evening for Loudoun's high school swimmers to have their District Championship meet. Its OUTRAGEOUS!!!!
