Wrestling: Broad Run's DiRenzo Takes 4th in State Meet, Finishes with Record 161 Career Wins; Freedom and Potomac Falls Combine for Five Medal Winners

(Feb. 21, 2010) - Broad Run High School senior Vince DiRenzo finished his great career with a fourth place finish at the VHSL AA state wrestling tournament this weekend in Salem and what is believed to be Loudoun's all-time mark for career wins with 161 total over four years. Freedom and Potomac Falls combined to send five wrestlers to the podium.

For Freedom, Chuong Le (119) and Charles Constantino (171) took fifth and Joseph Sheptock (145) took seventh. For Potomac Falls, Nick Rea (112) was sixth and Aaron Rowane (160) was 8th.

Christiansburg, came from behind in the finals, to win the meet for a ninth straight year. The Blue Demons finished with 175 points to edge Grundy at 166. Grundy, which won the meet 12 straight times between 1987 and 1998, led 162 to 154.5 heading into the finals. Fauquier, runner-up in last year's AAA state meet and winner of this year's Region II meet, finished third with 116 points.

Freedom placed 21st with 28 points. Region II had four of the top eight teams in the state with James Wood (65), Millbrook (64) and Sherando (62.5) finishing 6-7-8.

DiRenzo's final career win total of 161 is five better than Potomac Falls grad Paul Rowane's 156.
