Wrestling: Loudoun Valley's O'Connor and Hilgartner Qulaify for AAA State Meet

(Feb. 15, 2010) - The Loudoun Valley High School wrestling team advanced two athletes guys to the AAA State tournament this coming weekend at Robinson High School.

Alex O'Connor (215) took third and Oliver Hilgartner (119) took fourth place at Sunday's Northwest Region meet at Colonial Forge.

O'Connor made his way to the semifinals and faced a tough battle with No. 1-ranked Colonial Forge wrestler Demtri Cox. O'Connor then battled back and soundly defeated his next two opponents to earn third.

Hilgartner lost in the qursterfinals to the eventual champion from Forrest Park and then used his physical style of wrestling to earn a birth to the state tournament.

Zack Bolan (171) also placed fifth for the Vikings and will be the first alternate to the state tournament.

Host Colonial Forge won their ninth consecutive regional title with 243.5 points. Franklin County was runner-up at 185 and Forest Park was right behind at 179.5. Heritage was ninth at 75 points and Valley took 10th with 58.
