(Feb. 25, 2010) - Four Loudoun County students recently competed at the U.S. Open Taekwondo Championship hosted by USA Taekwondo held in Las Vegas on Feb. 10-14 and all four brought home medals.
The international tournament was attended by about 64 countries and thousands of athletes including Olympians that participated at the last Summer Olympics. The highly-competitive meet featured 30+ national and international athlethes in each division.
The medal winners -- Adrienne Ivey, Brandon Ivey, Michael LeVan and Christian Yun -- are members of the Sparring Elite Team and students of Phoenix Taekwondo locatd in Ashburn.
More on teach of the four athletes:
Adrienne Ivey: Gold Medalist, Junior Female Heavyweight division. She is also a current USA Taekwondo Junior National Team Member and represents the U.S. in various international taekwondo tournaments. She is a sophomore at Thomas Jefferson High School.
Brandon Ivey: Gold Medalist, 12-13 Year Old Male Heavy Weight Division. He is 7th grader at Eagle Ridge Middle School.
Michael LeVan: Silver Medalist, 12-13 Year Old Male Fin Weight Division. He is a 6th grader at Seneca Ridge Middle School.
Christian Yun: Bronze Medalist, 12-13 Year Old Male Middle Weight Division. He is a 7th grader at Stone Hill Middle School.
