After more than a week’s vacation, getting back on the court proved slow going for the as traveled to Battlefield to try and lock up a home court tournament game this weekend.
Early on the Vikings struggled from the floor, settling for outside shots against the Bobcat zone. Defensively, Battlefield controlled the boards and got some easy put backs to take a 13-7 first quarter lead. Late in the second quarter, Valley began a comeback and took the momentum into the locker room behind Chrystal Oden’s last second lay-up.
Coming out in the third, the Vikings were attacking the lane, and closed the gap to three heading into the final frame. In the fourth, the Viking’s Chrystal Oden took over, scoring 10 of the team’s 15 points. With a physical battle on the court and controversy at the scorer’s table, the team stayed focused and sealed the game from the foul line.
Chrystal Oden led the Vikings with a career high 22 points and 14 rebounds. The Vikings will wrap up the regular season at home on Thursday against Stonewall Jackson, and prepare to play Osbourn in the first round of the district tournament on Friday at Loudoun Valley.
Note: Congratulations to the Freshman and JV girls teams who also came away with wins. The Freshman team has wrapped up their season with an impressive record of 12-1.
