Baseball: Release the Hounds! Loudoun's Minor League Team Unveils Name, Logo

Ashburn (Sept. 23, 2010) - Release the Hounds! VIP Baseball, the partnership bringing professional baseball to Loudoun County, unveiled the Loudoun Hounds Tuesday as the Atlantic League's newest team.

The Hounds were introduced at a press event featuring Hall of Famer and former Washington Senator slugger Harmon Killebrew, along with the usual "dignitaries" from across the region’s political and sports scenes.

According the the Hounds: The team name and logo reflects the equestrian traditions intrinsic in the history of Loudoun County and the wider region. "Today, I am proud to unleash the Hounds," announced Bob Farren, President and CEO of VIP Baseball. "The Hounds will quickly become the heart and soul of the region, and we are set to establish rivalries with great teams like the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, the York Revolution and all of the Atlantic League in 2012."

(Sept. 21, 2010) - Sure it's football season but there is some big baseball news coming up as VIP Baseball has scheduled a media event for Sept. 21 at the 1757 Golf Club in Ashburn to unveil the new minor league baseball team's name and logo

Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew will be on hand to help name the team (come to think of it ... Killer Brews would be a great minor league name but don't bet on it!) ... as a reminder the three finalists were Virginia Silver Stars, Dulles Blue Heron and Loudoun Hounds.

VivaLoudoun is willing to wager a month's salary that the winning name announced will be Loudoun Hounds ... because you have to have Loudoun in the name, because it has the coolest mascot potential (and logo!) ... because the PA guy or gal can scream "Release the Hounds" when the team takes the field ... because they will play "You Ain't Nothing but a Hound Dog" during the 7th Inning Stretch ...

Also on hand at the event which runs 7:05 to 8:05 p.m. will be Bob Farren, President and CEO of VIP Baseball; Joe Klein, Commissioner of the Atlantic League; and local radio personality (OK ... when WAGE was still on the air, he was the personality!) Jeremy Huber, who will emcee. We expect Huber to make a strong run to be the team's play-by-play man if he wants the job.

News: VIP Baseball Selects Final Three Names for Minor League Team

Sterling (Feb. 15, 2010) – VIP Baseball announced the finalists in its “Name the Team” Contest and has opened up voting for the final decision on its website: http://www.vipbaseball.net.

Having culled through hundreds of names submitted by fans over the last two months, VIP Baseball narrowed down the three finalists to:

Dulles Blue Heron
Virginia Silver Stars
Loudoun Hounds

“VIP Baseball has been absolutely overwhelmed by the great names we’ve received from our growing fan base and we had a difficult time winnowing this list down to just three,” said Bob Farren VIP’s Managing Partner. “These names reflect some of the most popular submissions and reflect the team’s unique place in the area’s history and environment.”

The public is welcome to attend the announcement and meet VIP Baseball CEO Bob Farren. A vote on the three finalists to choose the team's name will be conducted at VIPbaseball.net.

Jason Rufner, former Loudoun Times-Mirror sports staffer, is now working for VIP Baseball (he lost the "S" in his byline in the move!) and Jason tells VivaLoudoun that there is still time to help name the Minor League team that VIP is bringing to Loudoun. The winning submission will receive two season tickets to the inaugural season in 2011, a package of official team merchandise and the opportunity to present the lineup card for the team during its first season. Dulles (Dec. 14, 2009) – VIP Baseball, the group bringing minor league baseball to Loudoun County, has announced phase one of its “Name the Team” Contest.

“VIP Baseball needs your help in naming the team! We want you, the people throughout Northern Virginia and the Washington, DC Metro area to help name your new hometown baseball team,” said Bob Farren VIP’s Managing Partner.

To submit your name for the team, go to www.vipbaseball.net or see form below to submit your choice online. You can also go to the contest sponsor’s locations -- Buffalo Wing Factory and Pub and Beckstrom Electric -- and submit your name choice there. The winning submission will receive two season tickets to the inaugural season, a package of official team merchandise and the opportunity to present the lineup card for the team during its first season.

VIP Baseball will take the names submitted through this portion of the contest and there will be an Internet vote of the favorites in early 2010.
