Girls Soccer: Woodgrove to Celebrate Eight Seniors Headed to College Ranks with Ceremony on Jan. 29

Purcellville (Jan. 24, 2013) - Defending VHSL AA girls soccer state champion Woodgrove High School has eight seniors that will play at the college level next year and the Wolverines will celebrate the talented group with a ceremony on Jan. 29 at 4 p.m. in the school's library.

Six of the seniors will sign their National Letter of Intent on Feb. 1 to play NCAA Division I soccer:

• Brittany Basinger (Penn State)
• Ashley Bonner (American)
• Maggie Buxton (James Madison)
• Bergen Elkjer (Indiana State)
• Sarah Hardison (George Mason)
• Ashley Tilly (Coastal Carolina)

And two of the seniors have committed to play at the NCAA Division III level next year:

• Victoria Perry (Christopher Newport)
• Samantha Winkler (Eastern Mennonite)

Girls Soccer: Woodgrove JR Ashley Bonner Verbally Commits to Play Soccer at American University

Purcellville (May 1, 2012) - Woodgrove High School junior Ashley Bonner has verbally committed to play soccer at American University starting in 2013-14. Bonner is the fourth Woodgrove High School junior to make an early soccer commitment, joining Brittany Basinger (Penn State), Bergen Elkjer (Indiana State) and Sarah Hardison (George Mason).

Girls Soccer: Stone Bridge to Hold Signing Ceremony for Ervins and Smith Feb. 8

(Jan. 31, 2012) - On Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 4 p.m., the Stone Bridge High School girls soccer program will celebrate the signing of two of their stand-out players over the past four years, Imani Ervins and Melanie Smith.

Imani Ervins is starting her fourth season as a varsity field player for the Bulldogs. She will continue her education and athletic career next year at Winthrop College in South Carolina. In addition, Melanie Smith will be off to American University this Fall to further her education and soccer experience. Melanie is a returning varsity defender and was the junior captain last year.

(Aug. 25, 2011) - Area soccer clubs and the website TopDrawerSoccer.com are reporting that six more Loudoun-based soccer players from the Class of 2012 have made their college choices.

Megan Benitez of Briar Woods High School will play at George Mason; Jackie Dallaire, who lives in Sterling and plays at Thomas Jefferson High School, will play at Kentucky; Dani Dangremond of Broad Run High School will play at Florida Atlantic; Tabitha McHale of Woodgrove High School will play at UNC-Greensboro; and Jay Shoates of Potomac Falls High School, and Melanie Smith of Stone Bridge will both play at American.

While school has yet to start, a total of 39 athletes from our Class of 2012 are already headed for the college ranks!

College Signing: Broad Run's Brenna Smith to Play NCAA Division I Soccer at American

(May 27, 2010) - Broad Run High School senior defender Brenna Smith, who has helped the Spartans to back-to-back state titles, signed earlier this spring to play NCAA Divison I soccer next year at American University.

"I was able to see Brenna play a number of times with her club and high school and she can play as both an outside and central defender,” commented American coach David Bucciero in a release. “Brenna will not back down and is a very physical defender that I expect will compete for a starting position."

(Feb. 25, 2010) - Two Broad Run High School seniors are taking their soccer game to the next level as Jennifer Taylor will play at Stony Brook next year and Brenna Smith will play at American.

Both Spartans have been part of the school's back-to-back VHSL AA state title runs.
