Girls Volleyball: Anchors Away! Loudoun County JR Maggie Phillips Verbals to U.S. Naval Academy

Leesburg (Sept. 26, 2012) - Loudoun County High School junior Maggie Phillips has verbally accepted to continue her volleyball career at the U.S. Naval Academy beginning in 2014, according to Raider Athletic Director Ken Wright.

Phillips has started for the Raider volleyball team since her freshmen year, and plays club volleyball for Virginia Elite Volleyball Club. She also has started for the Raider basketball team since her freshmen year, and continues to be an outstanding student leader.

Phillips comes from a military family, as her mother Gretchen is a Naval Academy graduate and former Naval aviator. Her father, Dave, is a VMI graduate and former Marine aviator.

Boys Basketball: TJ Senior Richard Kuzma of Leesburg to Play at Naval Academy

Leesburg (March 1, 2012) - Thomas Jefferson High School senior Richard Kuzma, a Leesburg resident, has committed to play basketball at the United States Naval Academy next year.

Kuzma chose Navy over MIT, West Point, Caltech and Southern California, where he had a National Merit Scholarship. Kuzma holds a 4.27 GPA and a 2340 out of 2400 SAT score.

On the basketball court, he holds TJ’s career, single-season and single-game scoring marks, including 35 and 37 point efforts. Kuzma, who has played four seasons with the Loudoun Triple Threat AAU team, is a two-time selection to the Liberty All District team and mainstay on the Washington Post area top 50 list for scoring, 3-point shooting and free throw percentage. College Signing: Three Titans Honored in College Commitment Ceremony

(May 17, 2010) - Three Dominion High School athletes Alexa Rizzo, Kimberly Ledwell and Hannah Donovan were honored at a college commitment ceremony on May 5 in the high school's library.

Rizzo, a standout lacrosse player at Dominion with a grade point average (GPA) above 4.0, received a presidential appointment to attend the Naval Academy.

Ledwell, an outstanding soccer player and team captain,will attend the University of South Carolina/Upstate and play soccer for the Spartans.

Donovan will be swimming for VMI next winter. She completed her high school swim career with the Titans as a four-year letter winner and team captain.

College Signing: Dominion's Alex Rizzo to Play Lacrosse at U.S. Naval Academy

(Dec. 31, 2009) - Dominion High School senior Alex Rizzo has accepted a nomination to attend the U.S. Naval Academy with a Presidential Nomination and has verbally committed to play lacrosse for the Mids.

Rizzo will play for Cindy Timchal, who has more wins in her career (362-95 for a .792 winning percentage) than any collegiate lacrosse coach in history, men's or womens's. Timchal, who started the Navy Division I program in 2006, led Maryland to eight NCAA titles in 16 seasons including seven straight from 1995 thru 2001.
