Football: Stone Bridge Rising SR Lineman Nate Davis Commits to UNC-Charlotte

(June 21, 2013) - Stone Bridge High School rising senior offensive lineman Nate Davis has committed verbally to play football at UNC-Charlotte according to Bulldog coach Mickey Thompson.

The 6-foot-3, 285-pound tackle, according to Thompson, has the ability to be the best OL to ever come out of Stone Bridge, which is high praise considering Thompson's tenure as the Ashburn school has included such linemen as current Philadelphia Eagle and Virginia Tech standout Ed Wang.

Thompson calls the 2013 offensive line for the Bulldogs one of the deepest groups since the school opened in 2000 with all-state rising senior center Connor Smith flanked by a set of guards and tackles that should average almost 290 pounds.

Recruiting has also been heating up for the other linemen such as rising seniors Nick Sobhani and Mike Hickey.

Football: Cardinal Connection? Briar Woods Speedy Polk Gets Stanford Offer

(June 21, 2013) - Briar Woods High School speedy rising junior Brandon Polk picked up an offer from Stanford a week ago. Former Briar Woods star Alex Carter made an impact on the West Coast this past season as a true freshman.

Polk, who won the 100 and 200 meters AA state titles earlier this month, also has offers from Maryland, ODU, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

(April 22, 2013) - Woodgrove High School junior defensive end J.J. Jackson has verbally committed Sunday to play football at the University of Virginia starting in 2014-15 according to Wolverines coach Mike Skinner. T 6-foot-4, 220-pound Wolverine also had offers from Duke, Hampton, ODU, Ohio University, and Yale.

11 athletes from the Class of 2014 have now committed.

(March 19, 2013) - Briar Woods High School football coach Charlie Pierce says that Falcons junior quarterback Trace McSorley picked up another offer, this time from the University of Connecticut where coaches on both sides of the line scrimmage like the quarterback/defensive back. McSorley now holds offers  form 10 schools.

(March 12, 2013) - VirginiaPreps.com is reporting that Broad Run High School sophomore wide receiver/defensive back Chuck Davis has received his first college scholarship offer from the University of North Carolina. In other recruiting news, Woodgrove coach Mike Skinner reports that his junior defensive end/outside linebacker J.J. Jackson has picked up another offer, this time from Hampton University.

Football: Dominion DT Yazeed Atariwa Gets Offer from Old Dominion

(March 8, 2013) - The Old Dominion University football program continued its hunt for football talent in the Loudoun County area with an offer to Dominion High School junior defensive tackle Yazeed Atariwa.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Atariwa has been invited to the rivals.com invite only combine in Richmond in April along with junior teammate Evan Ferguson, a 6-foot-6, 270-pound offensive tackle.

Football: College Scholarship Offers Roll in for Falcons - Trace McSorley Picks Up 3 More, Jared Coker Adds 2 and Brandon Polks Picks Up Another

(March 6, 2013) - The college scholarship offers are rolling in for a talented trio of Briar Woods High School football players that have helped the school to win three consecutive VHSL Division 4 state championships.

Junior quarterback Trace McSorley, 42-3 as a starter in three years, now has eight total offers after getting new offers from Western Michigan, Old Dominion and Vanderbilt. Previously he had offers from Boston College, North Carolina, UMass, UNC-Charlotte and Virginia Tech.

Junior linemen Jared Coker doubled his offers with two new ones as VMI and Old Dominion are vying for his talent. Previously he had offers from Bowling Green and UMass.

And sophomore wide receiver/defensive back Brandon Polk picked up an Old Dominion offer to go with previous offers from Maryland and Virginia Tech.

Boys Basketball: Loudoun Valley 6-7 JR Paul Rowley Picks Up Ivy League Offer from Cornell University

(Feb. 26, 2013) - Loudoun Valley High School 6-foot-7 junior forward Paul Rowley picked up an Ivy League offer this morning according to coach Chad Dawson. Rowley, who has helped the Vikings to the state basketball quarterfinals for the second straight season had earlier gotten scholarship offers from Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, Md. and Quinniiac University in Hamden, Conn.

Girls Volleyball: Loudoun County 6-foot-3 Taylor Borup is First Freshman in School History to Become College Commit with Verbal to UNC Chapel Hill

Though just a freshman in the fall, the 6-3 Borup
was already playing way over the net.

Leesburg (Feb. 26, 2013) - Loudoun County High School 6-foot-3 freshman girls volleyball player Taylor Borup has accepted a verbal offer to play volleyball at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill starting in 2016.

Borup, a member of the Raiders AA state championship team in the fall, becomes the first freshman in Loudoun County's nearly 60-year history to have an offer extend and to accept in any sport, according to Raider athletic director Ken Wright.

The middle hitter/outside hitter  currently plays club volleyball for the NVVA-15 ICE. 

Wright: "A native of North Carolina, Taylor has always dreamed of being a Tar Heel, and quickly accepted the offer. We look forward to many more championships with Taylor and are proud she will be a Tar Heel."

Football: Briar Woods JR lineman Jared Coker Picks Up Bowling Green Offer

(Feb. 18, 2013) - Briar Woods High School junior lineman Jared Coker picked up a scholarship offer over the weekend from Bowling Green University. Late in January the 6-foot-4, 270-pound lineman who helped the Falcons win a third straight VHSL Division 4 state football title in the fall, received his first offer from UMass.

(Feb. 6, 2013) - Briar Woods High School 3-year run on top of the Virginia High School League's Division 4 has resulted in a plethora of coverage and exposure for the Falcon players and colleges are taking notice as junior quarterback Trace McSorley -- 42-3 as a starter! -- picked up three more college scholarship offers in the last 24 hours according to coach Charlie Pierce.

McSorley, already with offers from UMass and Boston College, has now been offered by Virginia Tech,  North Carolina and UNC-Charlotte. In addition, Briar Woods sophomore all-purpose back/defensive back Brandon Polk picked up his first offer, also from Virginia Tech.

Later today, Briar Woods will celebrate the signings of seniors Matt Rolin (Florida) and Cam Serigne (Wake Forest).

Boys Basketball: Loudoun Valley JR Paul Rowley Picks Up Offer from Mount St. Mary's

(Aug. 13, 2012) - Loudoun Valley High School junior Paul Rowley, a 6-foot-7 inside-outside player who can play point guard, has picked up his first college offer as new Mount St. Mary's coach Jamion Christian has put the Viking on The Mount's recruiting radar.

Rowley picked up the offer according to Loudoun Valley coach Chad Dawson after a great summer season that included invites to the Mount St. Mary's elite camp as well as West Virginia University's elite camp.

"He deserves it as he has worked real hard," said Dawson. "Paul is very versatile, very athletic and great student of the game."

Christian, a 2004 graduate of Mount St. Mary's and just 30, was named head coach in March. He was an assistant at VCU where he helped the Rams with their 2012 NCAA tournament run. Prior to that he spent three years at William & Mary. Potomac Falls grad Greg Graves is a freshman on The Mount's 2012-13 roster.

Rowley is expected to pick up the scoring role in the winter of graduated John Yoxthimer. Dawson says that Rowley's combination of height and ball handling skills creates match-up problems for opposing teams.

Football: Heritage Senior Chris Aguemon Receives Offer from Davidson

Leesburg (July 23, 2012) - Heritage High School senior outside linebacker/running back Chris Aguemon has received his first NCAA Division I football offer with Davidson College offering him over the weekend.

Davidson, with an enrollment of 1,900 students, plays in the Pioneer Football League where they went 4-7 overall last season.

Boys Basketball: Broad Run JR Nigel Johnson Adds Offer from Northeastern, William and Mary

Ashburn (May 15, 2012) - Broad Run High School junior Nigel Johnson received two more basketball scholarship offers last week with CAA schools Northeastern University and the College of William and Mary offering the high-scoring guard.

Johnson now holds offers from Bucknell, American, Holy Cross, Cornell, George Washington, Northeastern, and William and Mary. During his junior year at Broad Run, Johnson led DC, Maryland, and Virginia scorers with 29.5 points per game. He also set a AAA record with 211 assists on the season.

Football: Briar Woods JR Running Back Cory Colder Offered by Bucknell

(May 3, 2012) - Briar Woods High School junior running back Cory Colder received his first football scholarship from Bucknell University. Bucknell, a Patriot League member, is now permitted to give athletic scholarships which makes Colder's one of the first scholarship offers by Bucknell.

Colder helped the Falcons to a second straight VHSL Division 4 state title in the fall, rushing for a school record 1,525 yards on 271 carries for a 5.6 yard average. He also scored 23 touchdowns. He had 186 yards rushing in the state title 28-26 win over Christiansburg on 27 carries including a 34-yard TD romp.

Boys Basketball: Broad Run JR Nigel Johnson Picks up Offer from George Washington

Ashburn (May 1, 2012) - On Monday, Broad Run High School junior Guard Nigel Johnson picked up his fifth basketball offer when George Washington University Colonials head coach Mike Lonergan made a scholarship offer to the high scoring Spartan.

Boys Basketball: Broad Run Advances to Northwest Region Tournament, Johnson Scores 31 on Heels of 3rd Scholarship Offer

(Feb. 10, 2012) - Broad Run High School junior Nigel Johnson, who picked up his third scholarship offer when Holy Cross offered him Thursday afternoon, scored 31 points Friday to lead the Spartans to a 65-63 win over Battlefield in the Cedar Run District consolation game.

The win advances the Spartans to next week's Northwest Region tournament.

Johnson already had scholarship offers from Bucknell University and American University. And more could be on the way as assistant coaches from James Madison University and Longwood University were in attendance Friday evening to watch Johnson with his 10th 30+ performance of the year.
