Boys Basketball: Loudoun Valley JR Paul Rowley Picks Up Offer from Mount St. Mary's

(Aug. 13, 2012) - Loudoun Valley High School junior Paul Rowley, a 6-foot-7 inside-outside player who can play point guard, has picked up his first college offer as new Mount St. Mary's coach Jamion Christian has put the Viking on The Mount's recruiting radar.

Rowley picked up the offer according to Loudoun Valley coach Chad Dawson after a great summer season that included invites to the Mount St. Mary's elite camp as well as West Virginia University's elite camp.

"He deserves it as he has worked real hard," said Dawson. "Paul is very versatile, very athletic and great student of the game."

Christian, a 2004 graduate of Mount St. Mary's and just 30, was named head coach in March. He was an assistant at VCU where he helped the Rams with their 2012 NCAA tournament run. Prior to that he spent three years at William & Mary. Potomac Falls grad Greg Graves is a freshman on The Mount's 2012-13 roster.

Rowley is expected to pick up the scoring role in the winter of graduated John Yoxthimer. Dawson says that Rowley's combination of height and ball handling skills creates match-up problems for opposing teams.

Boys Basketball: Two-Time Defending State Champion Potomac Falls, Off to 3-0 Start, Celebrates Graves Signing with Mount Saint Mary's

(Dec. 6, 2011) - The two-time Division 4 state champion Potomac Falls High School boys basketball has opened up the season 3-0 after winning the Broadway annual tip off tournament over the weekend but the Panthers still found time in the last week to celebrate senior Greg Graves' college signing with NCAA Division I Mount Saint Mary's.

Potomac Falls coach Jeff Hawes, just before the team cut a cake in honor of the 6-foot-7, 205-pound graves, said that the center is one of the area D1 basketball signing from a public high school in Loudoun.

Graves said he notified Mountaineers Coach Robert Burke of his choice in Oct., one day after returning from an official visit to the school in Emmitsburg, Md., and he then signed his Letter of Intent in Nov.

Graves averaged career-highs 15.6 points and 9.5 rebounds per game last year as the Panthers repeated their state title. Potomac Falls is the only boys program in Loudoun history to win a state basketball crown.

Basketball: Potomac Falls Senior Graves Pulling Down the College Offers

Sterling (Aug. 22, 2011) - Potomac Falls High School senior Gregory Graves, who helped the Panthers to back-to-back VHSL Division 4 boys basketball state titles, has already hauled down four college offers with more schools taking interest in the 6-foot-7 talented player.

Graves, who has generated buzz this summer while playing with the Richmond-based Team Loaded AAU squad, holds offers from Longwood University, Manhattan College, Mount Saint Mary's and Northeastern.

News: Freedom Celebrates its Largest Athletic Class to Move to the Next Level

College Signings: More Area Athletes Commit Including BWood's Bukovac, Freedom's Gluck, County's Duerbeck and Valley's McGinn

(Nov. 13, 2010) - Area athletes have been busy this week making their college plans and in just the past few days we have seen four more standouts added to our College Choice chart including three future NCAA Division I lacrosse players with Briar Woods' Matt Bukovac headed to Robert Morris, Freedom's Megan Gluck to play at Mount Saint Mary's and Loudoun Valley's Caitlin McGinn committed to George Mason.

Loudoun County softball player Kelley Duerbeck will play next year at NCAA Division 3 Lynchburg College. A three year member of the varsity softball team, Duerbeck has been the starting catcher for the Raiders for the last two years. She also plays club softball with Fire and Ice 18u.

"Kelley is counted on for her leadership on and off the field and we are excited for her getting this opportunity to continue her athletic career," reported Loudoun County athletic director Ken Wright.

Bukovac, the Falcons goalie who helped the team to the regional playoffs, will officially sign Tuesday Nov. 16 at 4 p.m. in a ceremony at the school. He joins Broad Run's Ryan Madigan next year at Robert Morris.

Also Gluck will sign her Letter of Intent on Wed. Nov. 17 at 4 p.m. at Freedom and on the same day, Stone Bridge's J.J. White will sign to play baseball at Penn State, also at 4 p.m.

Lacrosse: Broad Run's Andy Londos Verbally Commits to Division I Mount Saint Mary's

Ashburn (Oct. 14, 2009) – Andy Londos, a senior at Broad Run High School, has verbally committed to attend Mount Saint Mary’s University next fall, where he plans to continue his lacrosse career.

Londos was a leader on Broad Run’s 2009 Championship lacrosse team that won the Dulles District and Region II Championships.

Broad Run finished the season with its first ever trip to the Virginia Final Four after beating Loudoun Valley in the first round of the state playoffs. Londos was a leading scorer on the team with 88 points (49 goals and 39 assists). He also contributed as a team leader in many ways. Londos was instrumental in key Broad Run wins including scoring the winning goal with six seconds left in the Dulles District Championship.
