Girls Volleyball: Flint Hill SR Haley McClure Commits to Morgan State

(Nov. 29, 2012) - Flint Hill senior Haley McClure, an Ashburn native who previously played at Stone Bridge High School, has committed to play volleyball next year at NCAA Division I Morgan State according to her Northern Virginia Volleyball Association club team.

Flint Hill won the City Championship this year -- annual title match played between WCAC and ISL champions -- and then won the VISAA state title to finish 30-2.

Volleyball: Stone Bridge Remains Unbeaten with Four Wins at Loudoun Valley Tournament

Purcellville (Sept. 17, 2012) - Stone Bridge High School went unbeaten in four matches Saturday at the Loudoun Valley 2012 tournament. The Bulldogs, with wins over host Valley, Heritage, Forest Park and Osbourn Park improve to 10-0 on the season.

Loudoun Valley finished 3-1 with wins over Flint Hill, Freedom and Battlefield and Heritage went 2-2 while Freedom wound up 1-3.

Ryan Ackermann had a big day for Stone Bridge with a combined 32 kills and 16 digs in the four matches. Sarah Fairchild finished with 51 digs and six aces. Cydney Gill was kept busy running the Bulldog offense with 77 assists to go with 10 digs and five aces.

Boys Lacrosse: South Riding's Patrick Farrell Commits to Play at NCAA DIII National Champion Salisbury

(Dec. 6, 2011) - Flint Hill School senior goalie Patrick Farrell, a South Riding resident, has committed to play men's lacrosse next year at NCAA Division III national champion Salisbury.

College Corner: Flint Hill Grad Shane Savage Selected To Capital One Academic All-District Football Team at Cornell

(Nov 11, 2011) - Flint Hill grad Shane Savage, who ranks among Cornell's career leaders in every receiving category, has hauled in 50 passes for 732 yards and six touchdowns this season for the Big Red football team.

Savage had a pair of receiving touchdowns in the win over Wagner and also had 152 yards and two touchdowns against Ivy leader Harvard. He also had a 12-catch, 163-yard effort against Brown.

Savage has a reception in all 28 career varsity contests and has piled up 138 catches for 1,653 yards and 10 scores. In the classroom, Savage sports a 3.43 grade point average in Applied Economics and Management.

Volleyball: Heritage Sweeps Through Loudoun Valley Tournament Including Wins Over Stone Bridge, Freedom

(Sept. 13, 2011) - Heritage High School swept past the competition at the Loudoun Valley High School 8-team tournament Saturday with a perfect 4-0 day, including wins over AAA powers Stone Bridge, Freedom and Deep Run as well as a victory over private power Flint Hill.

The Pride (8-1 on the season) did not drop a set on the day, winning 12 straight with victories over Stone Bridge (25-22, 25-14, 15-11), Freedom (25-14, 25-21, 15-11), Deep Run (25-18, 25-8, 15-5) and Flint Hill (25-18, 25-8, 15-5).

The tournament format was three sets for each match with the third set to 15 regardless of the outcome of the first two sets.

Stone Bridge (6-1), which hadn't lost a set on the young season coming into the event, finished 3-1 on the day with wins over host Loudoun Valley (25-23, 25-17, 15-7) and Prince William premier programs Forest Park (25-16, 25-14, 15-9) and Osbourn Park (15-17, 25-14, 7-15).

Freedom also went 3-1 in the tournament with the Eagles only loss to Heritage. Freedom (6-3) defeated Osbourn Park (25-2, 25-17, 15-9), Forest Park (23-25, 25-21, 15-7) and Loudoun Valley (26-24, 25-22, 15-17).

Host Valley defeated Flint Hill in straight sets, 3-0, and also played Deep Run (story will be updated when results arrive).

Volleyball: Loudoun Valley to Host Big Tournament Saturday - 8 Teams and 16 Matches

(Sept. 8, 2011) - If you like girls high school volleyball then Loudoun Valley is the spot on Saturday as the Vikings host an all-day tournament that features eight teams -- four of them from Loudoun -- and 16 matches in two gyms.

(Feb. 11, 2011) - PrepVolleyball.com recently unveiled its select list of high school girls volleyball All-Americans and of the four Virginia players to make the list of 150, two are from Loudoun County: Flint Hill senior Tori Janowski and Loudoun County High School junior Jenna Strange.

Another area player, Stone Bridge senior Christine Beckham was named Honorable Mention.

Strange, who helped the Raiders to a fourth consecutive VHSL AA state title in the fall, is one of just 41 juniors named to the prestigious list.

News: Area Athletes Make College Choices -- Loudoun County's Dormio and Saleck Commit; SB's Prince to Play Softball at GMU; PFalls Kiefer to Hold Signing Ceremony; Former Stone Bridge/Flint Hill Hoops Standout Whitaker Verbals to UAB

(Oct. 26, 2010) - It has been a very busy week for area athletes in regard to finalizing their college plans five Loudoun athletes are in the news.

*At Loudoun County, Sammy Dormio announced she will play volleyball at Keene State and Raider baseball player Tyler Saleck has accpeted an appointment to the Air Force Academy.

*In softball, Stone Bridge's Cori Prince will play next year at George Mason and Potomac Falls pitcher, Heather Kiefer, who verbally committed last February to James Madison, will officially sign in a ceremony on Nov. 12.

*And in basketball, former Stone Bridge and Flint Hill standout, K.C. Whitaker, who is playing a postgraduate year at the Fishburne Military School this year, has verbally committed to play next year at NCAA Division I University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Dormio will play for Keene State in New Hampshire. An Outside Hitter and Defensive Specialist, Sammy has been a part of the Loudoun County's three straight AA state volleyball titles.

Saleck has accepted an appointment to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Spings and will play baseball for the Falcons. A 3-year varsity baseball player, Saleck anchors the defense as the Raiders third baseman and pitcher, while bringing power to the plate.

"LCHS is very proud of both of these young student-athletes ... whose hard work has paid off for them," wrote Loudoun County athletic director Ken Wright in a release from the school.
