Boys Basketball: Lucketts A.J. Metz Accepts Preferred Walk-on Role at Maryland

(June 29, 2013) - Lucketts native A.J. Metz, who recently graduated from the Bullis School has signed as a preferred walk-on with the University of Maryland men's basketball program.

Metz, with a 3.85 GPA, wants to become an orthopedic surgeon. He was a charter member of the original Loudoun Triple Threat travel basketball team which started the LTT AAU basketball program team. Metz played all seven years for LTT.

Softball: Woodgrove SR Katie Sholl Accepts Preferred Walk-On Status at Freed-Hardeman University

(May 30, 2012) - Woodgrove High School senior Katie Sholl announced that she has accepted a preferred walk-on status to play softball next year at Freed-Hardeman University, a NAIA school located in Henderson, Tenn.

 Sholl's decision brings the Class of 2012 to 197 total athletes playing at the next level.

Football: Stone Bridge DB Dexter Rogers Accepts Preferred Walk-on at Hampton

(Apr. 15, 2011) - Stone Bridge High School senior defensive back Dexter Rogers confirmed Friday that he has accepted a preferred walk-on status with NCAA Division I Hampton University for next season.

The first-team All-Liberty District player said the Pirates were planning on using him at corner. Rogers helped the Bulldogs to back-to-back VHSL Division state title appearances.

Football: Briar Woods Scott Rolin Accepts Preferred Walk-On Offer at Virginia Tech

Ashburn (Feb. 27, 2011) - Briar Woods High School senior Scott Rolin, who was named the district, region and state defensive Player of the Year while leading the Falcons to a VHSL Division 4 state title, has accepted a preferred walk-on football offer from Virginia Tech University.

Rolin was the Dulles District and Region II Defensive Player of the Year and named by the Virginia High School Coaches Association as the AA Defensive Player of the Year. Rolin, also a big-play maker at wide receiver for the Falcons, despite being listed at just 5-foot-9 and 175 pounds.

"I will be brought in as a wide receiver and was told I could contribute on special teams soon if I worked hard and would have a shot to earn a scholarship in the future," said Rolin.

Rolin joins Stone Bridge senior quarter Brian Rody who has also accepted a preferred walk-on offer from Virginia Tech.

Ashburn (Feb. 25, 2011) - Stone Bridge High School football coach Mickey Thompson said today that senior quarterback Brian Rody has accepted preferred walk-on status next year at Virginia Tech.

Rody told Hokiehaven.com that he was "just happy to find a home for next year."

In his two seasons as a starter at Stone Bridge after transferring from Heritage, Rody helped the Bulldogs go 13-2 in 2009 and 14-1 in 2010, falling each season in the VHSL Division 5 state finals to Phoebus. He finished last season with 2,045 yards on 120 for 213 passing with 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Rody, listed at 6-foot-6, 220-pounds, said he wants to work on his footwork and improve his mechanics.
