News: Loudoun County Approves Construction of Ashburn Stadium

(April 4, 2013) - The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Wednesday to approve the request to build a privately financed 5,500-seat stadium in Ashburn within the One Loudoun development at the interchange of Route 7 and Loudoun County Parkway.

News: Not Everybody in Love with Proposed Baseball, Soccer Stadium Location at One Loudoun

(Nov. 13, 2012) - Not everybody is a fan of the proposed mixed-used 10,000 fan stadium -- plans call for a minor league baseball team and a North American Soccer League franchise to call it home -- to be located at One Loudoun in Ashburn as a grassroots group has organized in opposition with a website recently launched title "No Stadium on Route 7".

The stadium, spearheaded by the VIP Sports & Entertainment group that is trying to establish a minor league baseball team in Loudoun (Loudoun Hounds), was originally slated for the Kincora Project but in October it was announced that stadium would now be build nearby in the One Loudoun development.

Earlier this month the group announced that it has been awarded a franchise in the North American Soccer League that would debut in 2014 with its home games at the future ballpark.

The opposition group says in the No Stadium on Route 7 website: "We are Democrats, Independents, and Republicans but most of all we are concerned citizens of Loudoun County, Virginia. We are a 100 percent volunteer and grass roots effort similar to the fight in 2009 to stop the rezoning of the Broadland's in Loudoun County to build a hospital in the middle of an established community. We realize that we are the underdogs in this fight and face an uphill battle but we will not back down. Placing a large stadium on Loudoun's primary East and West route and close to established neighborhoods is a very bad idea."
