Soccer: Loudoun Soccer Announces 2011-12 Technical Staff

Leesburg (Aug. 19, 2011) - Loudoun Soccer announce this week its technical staff for the upcoming 2011-12 season, an experienced group which will guide the club’s player development, coaching education and ensure the continued excellence of its technical programs.


Loudoun Soccer’s new staff has grown out of a comprehensive review by experts both inside and outside the club, a process spearheaded by Technical Director Darryl Gee and Mark Ryan (Director of Coaching – Travel). The staff will be working together over the coming weeks and months to review the technical structure of the club and to implement improvements and enhancements to all aspects of the club: player development, coach education, parent education and technical programs.

“We are delighted to announce our new technical staff. We’ve already begun the work that will be required to keep Loudoun Soccer moving forward,” said Gee. “We have put together a group which is experienced, possesses a vast knowledge of the youth game and is motivated to work together to provide Loudoun Soccer players with the best possible opportunities to develop to their full potential.”

Longtime Loudoun Soccer coach Vicky Hall has been tapped to lead the club’s Under-7/Under-8 Development Academy Program. A former college player, USSF A-Licensed coach and a member of the Maryland ODP coaching staff, Hall will help develop an enhanced curriculum for player development, review and enhance current academy program and provide the curriculum education for Loudoun Soccer’s quality pool of staff coaches.

Michael Green and Rae Ann Taylor will serve as Development Coordinators for the U9-U12 Boys and Girls Travel Youth programs, respectively. Both will work with Gee and Ryan to develop a consistent curriculum across the age groups, develop a high-quality pool of coaches and assist in the coordination of the Technical Training Academy (TTA) program in these age groups.

Blessed with a wealth of playing experience from time at the University of Virginia, Major League Soccer and the German professional ranks, Green is a member of the Virginia ODP coaching staff, recently received his USSF National Youth License and will be completing his B License early in 2012. Taylor holds a USSF B License and is a member of the Virginia ODP District and State coaching staff.

Hall, Green and Taylor will also work together closely to develop a consistent curriculum across their age groups, cultivate a high-quality pool of coaches, assist in the coordination of the TTA program in these age groups and ensure the smooth transition of U7/U8 Development Academy players and parents into the Travel Program.

New Director of Goalkeeping (Recreation and Travel) John O’Hara joins Loudoun Soccer following successful stints with the Great Falls SC and McLean Soccer Development Academy programs. Widely recognized as one of the top goalkeeper coaches in Virginia, O’Hara is currently the Assistant Coach/GK for the George Mason University Men’s Soccer Program, and is also goalkeeper coach for the Virginia ODP – North District.

A former All-American who played professionally in Ireland and the USA, his responsibilities will include the development of a club-wide goalkeeper curriculum, the oversight of the GK Academy and the Recreational GK program, the evaluation of all goalkeepers in the club and guidance for all coaches in the club on the goalkeeper role and the training of GKs.

The vastly experienced Randy May will serve as Loudoun Soccer’s College Placement Program Coordinator (CPPC). A former college coach at Cornell University and currently head coach of the varsity boys' squad at Stone Bridge High School, May has helped to place a vast number of players into college programs over the years. He is an integral part of the fabric of Loudoun Soccer and his role in helping to prepare and educate players for the next level of play will be invaluable to the club in the coming years.

May is an A-Licensed coach with over 30 years’ experience in college, high school, ODP and travel soccer. Working closely with Ryan, May’s responsibilities will include coordinating educational workshops for players, parents and coaches, assisting Loudoun Soccer coaches in the U14-U19 age groups on how to prepare players for college and providing players with exposure to college coaches (college showcase tournaments and Loudoun College Showcase Residential Camp).

With over 15,000 soccer registrations annually, nearly 2,000 coaches, over 30 soccer-related programs for players between the ages of three and 18 and countless community outreach programs, Loudoun Soccer is Virginia’s largest soccer program and one of the largest youth soccer clubs in the Washington, D.C. region.
